I didn't like the original KS pitch so didn't support it, but I got it for really cheap on Epic during the sale due to some regional issues or something so I thought why not.

IMHO, the tactical UI is OK, there are just some minor, but occasionally frustrating issues (like e.g. the right mouse key is used to cancel the targeting, but it's not used to cancel player selection so the player will move to a random location your mouse was at).

I don't fully understand the indie graphics comments, to me it looks more detailed than what I remember XCOM/2 looked like, but I'm playing at 4K, perhaps it makes things smaller and looking better then. I didn't really pay attention to when things are zoomed in as I just consider that part to be an overdeveloped aiming help. I would have preferred a simpler JA2 like solution instead.

The geoscape UI is pretty basic and could use more game features and depth.

So, in general, while the tactical part is fortunately noticeably more in-depth than the overly consolized XCOM/XCOM 2, the strategic part seems to be lacking except for these extra faction choices. I hope it gets further improved with the DLC's if they could add more depth and not just tack on the DLC's like XCOM did where they just extend the base game duration, but the original basic story gets untouched. The writing in XCOM2 was horrible IIRC, felt like a B-movie version of already B-movie Freedom Fighters or something.

Disclaimer: though I found XCOM and XCOM 2 rather accessible for a single playthrough, I didn't really think much of them. Phoenix Point at least feels more ambitious than those though I'll have to play it through before I see if it's good enough to warrant a replay.

The most frustrating thing is that there is no way to preview line of sight properly or gauge how good your shots will be. The game shows you the lines but you might have NO way to hit anyone from that position.

The cover stepouts seem to be super inconsistent, especially from high ground.

Therefore the core tactical mechanics are shit. Original XCOM was miles better than this.

You have to use manual aim all the time. The line only shows that the soldiers is aware of enemy.

I know, but you can't know how good the shots will be before moving into that position and manually aiming.

lol, gamepuss launch delayed
https://forums.snapshotgames.com/t/microsoft-game-pass-and-microsoft-store-info/5933
Quote:
Dear Fans, Backers, and Players,

We’re so excited to see so many of you playing Phoenix Point! The response to our launch has been overwhelming, and we’re absolutely thrilled to see the community discussing the game, streaming the game, and, most of all, playing the game in huge numbers!

We know that some of you are waiting for our release on Microsoft Xbox Game Pass for PC and the Microsoft Windows Store. We want to update you on the status of that.

The fact is we dropped the ball. We were exceedingly busy getting the game itself ready, and being inexperienced with Game Pass and the Microsoft Store, we simply had not properly prepared the groundwork to get the game released on time on these platforms. Compared to other platforms we’re on these platforms require a number of pre-requisites, from Microsoft certification to legal documentation review. While these are now mostly complete, they have given rise to a number of new delays.

Specifically, we are currently unable to make the same content available on Microsoft’s platform that is available to players on other platforms. Since we want to make sure all players have access to all versions of Phoenix Point regardless of where they choose to play, we need to get this working before we can release.

This issue was not anticipated by us and has caused unexpected delay over and above our delay waiting for certification. We had hoped to have Game Pass players, at least, up and running today, but it now seems like there will be further delays. We do not have an ETA for Phoenix Point on Game Pass or the Windows Store yet. Please know we are working as hard and as quickly as possible with our partners at Microsoft to resolve these issues and will keep you informed.

As always, thank you for supporting Phoenix Point, and we hope to see you on the battlefield soon!

noobs, then again having a new game available for 'rental' on the first launch day is stupid anyway, cuts way to much into potential sales

Read: we experienced substantially less sales than anticipated, so we're soft-cancelling the Game Pass version and moving its release TBA so as to not give away the game for free and further eat out into our sales figures.

Guarantee this won't see a Game Pass release before 2020 Laughing Can't have Timmy Boy losing out on Epic sales after all Laughing

(typo...)

Working with Microsoft can't be too difficult and they have the resources and experience especially for how long Game Pass has been around now on both XBox and PC and getting Game Pass support readied and approved with all that help shouldn't be a issue (Seems to not be much of one for others at least. ~ ) though I thought they covered for sales when devs were part of this due to the numerous 1$ trials and all that for building a GamePass adapted user base and support and goodwill for a subscriber positive future of gaming. Heh.

Well if the deal involves Microsoft seeing sales figures then yeah probably not and then the games state and reviews and Metacritic and what not well they probably want to wait a bit.

I can't help but find it yet another scummy move from them.
Hope they get out of business. This game really took a sharp turn for me.

Yeah, this is my thought exactly. Any other company and I'd think it was a genuine mistake.. but with all the shady shit they keep pulling? Yeah, I'm calling shenanigans.

This sounds to me like MS wants a bigger cut of DLC sales than Gollop is willing to agree to.

Kind of enjoying the game. It's perfect for laying on bed or on couch with controller, lol.

Combat sure is a LOT better than the random miss or hit XCOM1/2.

Not saying that makes it overall the better game, but I sure would like to have that combat in XCOM, lol.

That's what attracted me at first, too, I can't *stand* games with "percentage chance to hit" because it's never what you see on screen. 97% chance to hit? Miss! Fuck off Very Happy

how is it not what you see on screen? 97% is just that .. 97. Its not guaranteed. It means there is still a chance to miss. Even if its 99%

Don't even bother arguing with me. XCOM's "percentages" are infamously broken, it has become a meme at this point, so don't. Just don't.

PickupArtist wrote:

You can't save scum like that in XCOM/XCOM2 as the percentages are locked in at the start of the action - so you'd have to perform another action in order to get the percentage roll to change.

is there some bug in the game, has there been some prooven mistakes ? As far as i know, the memes exist because its funny when you have a 98% and miss. Are there really actual issues with the game? Cause if not, yeah, even with a 99% means you still have a chance to miss. There was this attitude since the games launched that somehow if you have say 89% chance at something it should be guaranteed? As if the 11% chance to miss doesnt exist

This isn't about, how % and probability work, we know that, it's about that it shouldn't have a place in those games in the first place.

It's that you miss, it's the FREQUENCY of misses. It's not funny to miss multiple shots in a row when they're all 90%++, just because it's PROBABLE due to percentages. You can fight for the RNG if you want, but in my eyes you're wrong and I don't have the energy/time/patience to debate it ^_^

theres nothing to debate. if there are chances to miss, sometimes we're all gonna miss. its as simple as that. i havent played the game in years, but i do not have memories where numerous, multiple very high hit chances have missed. the ocasional miss happens where you just smile to yourself, but thats about it

There's another problem with the % chance to hit. Way too often in XCOM you have your gun in the enemy's mouth yet you end up missing.

so tell me, wtf happened here Smile 100% of aim cricle was covered in alien, yet it went trough him

https://www.twitch.tv/tornis/clip/AlertPlacidTapirCharlietheUnicorn?filter=clips&range=7d&sort=time

i think i can see when he zoomed back out, the aiming circle changed size and showed a small space under the alien chest where it was not covering the alien anymore, even though tornis did not seem to move his mouse after the zoom in/out
