Check out rtings.com for monitor reviews.
They gave a good score for LG 27GL850 with points deducted mainly for disappointing contrast and bad black uniformity (as all IPS panels).

So normal 16:9 is still okay then, it's only 21:9 and up you're not interested in...?

Ordered Lenovo Y27q-20 (LG 27GL850 variant), although the listing shows no availability, but hopefully one will show up and get shipped to me.
If it does, I hope I will have better luck with it compared to the ABSOLUTELY disastrous experience I had with the 2 monitors I tried last year.

The gamma was a disaster at ~1.1. Got a second unit, exact same gamma. The store didn't have any other units so I returned both and will look into buying something different in 2019.
Shame about the gamma, both units had no blb at all and they would be winners if the contrast wasn't that weak. |

So what to choose in 32" monitor? At least 1440p ofc. VA or IPS? I have heard, that big IPS have bad backlight bleed. Especially cheap ones.

If you will choose VA, It will be too dark in the middle and very washed out all around the middle with gamma being very low around the edges. It's so called gamma shift or gamma cone view normal for every va viewed up close. And the gamma will change drastically with You every move... and va is ghosting like ass.
IPS is a bit better nowadays. With contrasts often around ~1300 instead of 800 we used to have. Bleeding is still a thing. I've had quite a lot monitors in last 2 years and in short:
-TN 240hz panel was best for gaming and had cleanest motion. was glowing all around the edges.
-VA I've only had few 60hz monitors. One of which was benq hdr and while the colors and black quality on benq ew277hdr were good, the cone view and gamma were super weird... Dark games actually looked like shit.
-With IPS I've had terrible luck with iiyama where 75hz 1440p panel glowed on 3 of 4 edges. Hp monitors I've had only glowed in 1 corner and aorus ad27qd also glowed strongly in 1 edge. The Acer xv272u was the same as gigabyte.
-The 4k lg panels I've had a great luck with so I am sticking with that so far. no glow.
To properly check for ips glow look at monitor in normal day light or with a room light on and from far away. At least 2 meters. If the black screen looks black in those conditions, then there is no bleeding. What You see up close on IPS is ips glow and it's a normal ips thing not visible much in gaming.
That way or another - I recommend IPS. Be it 1440p 144hz with blb in 1 corner or 4k with no blb (maybe I am lucky)

got the predator XB271HUA afterall.
was looking for reviews and test and opinions for weeks and no matter which display in the range from 400-550 euros i have seen, every monitor/panel had downsides.
it was on sale for 399 euros and offers all the features i care about.
only negatives points are the ugly stand (which i don't use since i got a desk mount), the glitter coating, which i got used to after a few days and the colour banding which i could mostly "fix" with turning down gamma to 0.75 in nvidia control panel.
all other monitors in this price range, with the same features had exactly the same auo panel and so the same problems.
i got no dust in the panel, no pixel errors, no ghosting, no backlight bleeding, glow or whatever. it just works, like it should.
i just don't get all the hate for TN panels. i don't work with photoshop or adobe premiere or whatelse, so why would i need an ips panel? viewing angles are good, i don't sit on the floor playing games or watching movies, so viewing angles are fine for me, you will notice nothing if you sit in front of it. colours are good (after adjustment) and you got best response times.
im just disgusted from all those monitor "experts" all over the internet. no matter what monitor you choose, most people will come and tell you how shitty it is, maybe to justify their own shitty purchase.
take your time to choose your monitor, see which features you need or want, look up real reviews (not forums, amazon reviews or comments), check the panel and see if you can live with the downsides and the buy what you want. (at best when it's on sale) then you will be happy.

So another question.
Does 1080p look like crap on 4k display?

That's a question to me! (lg 27uk650 here. Had 1080p 27" hp ips directly before)
It looks good. Maybe a tad softer than a real thing but it's pretty much unnoticeable in movies or 3d games. In 2d games like ftl or some old games with limited resolution and stuff, You can just use nvidia integer scaling to display 1080p like if it was native(yes nvidia finally added this).
I've also had 1440p monitors and I think 1080p looked a bit softer on those than on 4k monitor. I also play 1080p ps4 slim on this monitor and it looks fine.
Overall - It's fine. 1440p is also fine on this. But I game mostly at 3200x1800 which is close to identical to real 4k.
btw - if You expect super sharpness of 4k on 4k, YOU WILL GET IT but You might be surprising seeing that anti aliasing is still very much needed. At least smaa in most games.

1080p is easy to scale up to 4K (2x on each axis), so it should look comparable to how it looks on the same-size 1080p display.

Just ordered Viewsonic XG270QG. Had 15% discount. It's derivative of LG 27GL850 but with G-Sync Support.
Hopefully it will be here next week.

Got myself a AOC 32" 1440p Freesync monitor for ~220€, finally replacing my 27" 1080p one I had for several years now (and cost like twice as much back then, lol).
I've to say, going from 27 to 32" is quite the step up, lol.
