spoiler for parvati's companion quests btw if u haven't done it.

I didn't even get the quest about their dinner. Finished that stupid quest where you get her a dress and some other shit, then she said she is going to talk to that Junlei but never did when I came back to Groundbreaker. But I shot Nyoka's parents. Those assholes deserved it but she still quit.

You start the dinner by talking to Parvati on your ship after finishing the quests and landed on Groundbreaker.

i think parvati is the only interesting side companion, even ellie is meh and she is more in the game trailers

anyway reached monarch and gave up. everything just feels the same now, even npcs all talk the same and felt nothing has been acomplished thus far, the main story feels like a side quest itself

I think I did talk to Perverti while docked in the Groundbreaker. Usually companions stay right next to the exit when they have a quest but she was never there. But whatever, hated her anyway. She was only interesting in the beginning when she was some good mechanic who was never outside Edgewater. When she started behaving like a 12 years old, she became super annoying: "What if I do this? What if I say that? How do I smell? But let's go to some chef in Monarch who is the only one to cook some meal I read in a book" etc. Perhaps her quest was one of the 2-3 quests in the game I didn't do. Dunno how many I missed in Byzantium after I started killing every Board idiot. Only catches some rats and killed wannabe actors there. Oh and saved that doctor that froze her colleagues which reminded me she was never mentioned afterwards in the end video.

Had to try a few times till i got this to run good on my PC, not sure what i changed that made the little freezing problem i had (this is called stuttering? I'm new to playing on PC), i was disappointed i wasn't able to run this smoothly on Ryzen 3600, RX 590 and 16 gb, as i play on 1080p and was expecting it to run good. Saw some tips like disable game mode on win10 so this might solved it. Smile

As for the game, i enjoy it, it is like fallout in space but imo less good then FO3,NV,4.
Fallout games have better world and music for sure but still this is a very good game.

Yeah that was weird. Given they pushed her in the trailers I was expecting she had some major role, but I guess they just went with the safe marketing choice of normal looking white girl to not scare off the masses.

All the NPCs are forgettable. I stopped playing after I got to Monarch, and couldn't muster the will to play it again.

Sure the systems and skill checks might be deep, but the rest of the world is shallow.

I see now why they took the Epic money because event the publishers and slimy Fergus didn't have faith in the game.

It's sadly forgettable.

I sadly agree with many of you on this: it is a boring ass game. I reached Monarch, and can't find the will to go on. Why should I? Not a single character is interesting. Not a single conflict is interesting.

I get it, corporations are bad. Rebelling is nice. Even for a 12 year old, that is pretty shallow.\

We now have games with stellar writing. Like Witcher 3 or Disco Elysium (just started, loving it to bits). This is just not up to standard.

I don't care about the characters - they are one dimensional caricatures.

I don't care about the setting - too light, but also not funny.

I feel this is made for kids.

Fuck it, I'm getting older. I don't have time for mediocre anymore.

We haven’t seen a proper Fallout game or space RPG in years. The Outer Worlds arrival takes advantage, unknowingly, from Bethesda’s fall from grace and Andromeda’s disaster. However, the failures of these games are not Obsidian’s accomplishments. The Outer Worlds is a charming and surprisingly bug free space venture that has the same amount of depth with less personality than its aging competition. While it can be enjoyable, it’s hardly the spiritual successor to New Vegas that so many named it to be. However, it’s the success of The Outer Worlds that makes me hopeful for a sequel that won’t be held back by financial constraints allowing more freedom for creativity.

Pros:
+ Safe but overall good writing
+ Likeable companions
+ Voice acting
+ Sense of adventure

Cons:
– Streamlined gameplay
– Underwhelming difficulty
– Dated graphics
– Performance problems
– Price tag

Meh.

Bait and switch, the game. Here's a nice first area, a mildly interesting companion and respective side quest, seemingly interesting skill and perk systems, and varied equipment. You like it? Good.
Because from now on the areas will be less and less interesting, the companions and their quests much simpler, skills standard and perks mostly useless and the weapons and armor systems "opens" to support a cakewalk gameplay through increasingly pointless planets and maps, with barely any reason to explore.

The last two big areas were quite pointless, just sped through them evading disguise checks and nailed the "end" with a booze induced skill check.

Writing is ok, but the light setting along with "corporations and bureaucracy, amirite?" gets old really REALLY fast. Didn't really have any motivation to save the colony, seems like nobody really cares. Even the worse nuFO game is more compelling than this, IMO.

Might buy in the distant future with a HUUUUUUGE discount to do an asshole playthrough.
Now to decide if I pickup boob souls where I left off or... don't

finished after [?] hours. If you stick to doing what you enjoy and go skippedy-skip as soon as a a certain quest/exploration/etc feels like a drag, i found this game quite enjoyable. I can imagine how e.g. Monarch can burn you out if youre gonna do everything and explore the entire place but the game doesn't force you to do that...

theres lots to criticize here and you guys been bitching about it extensively so no need to add to that but i simultaneously felt the game does have "a soul" (for the lack of a better word) and i liked the atmosphere it created which felt like a weird mixture of Firefly/Futurama/Rick&Morty.. but maybe thats just me being simple minded Razz

Well, I was stuck and rapidly disinterested once I've reached Monarch and tried to get things up to speed - only to be blocked again and again by impossible thresholds, be it mission buildings with ridiculous perks to be accessible or indestructible mantiqueen swarms. Once I've cleared some secondary and companion missions the game took its pace again and now I'm really engaged again Very Happy Character level 17 if that matters.

Well, this explains everything.

Quote:
There’s another interesting wrinkle to the conversation with Parvati, when she opens up. In most RPGs like The Outer Worlds, players are granted a wide range of responses to every situation. You can be nice, you can be an asshole, you can be indifferent. In this moment, when Parvati chooses to be vulnerable, the game explicitly limits your range of responses.
“I want that conversation to feel like a safe space for the players who are playing it and identify with it,” she said. “I don't want to pull the rug out from under them and say, ‘Haha, actually you're a joke,’ or ‘other people think you are a joke.’ [...] I don't want to write a homophobia simulator. [laughs] That's not what I got in the game writing for.”

You can be a lot of things in The Outer Worlds, but you can’t be a bigot to Parvati.

Their games are allowed to be homicide simulators, genocide simulators, asshole simulators (insulting people about everything from their weight, height to intelligence), thievery simulators, suicide simulators, animal abuse simulators - but someone is gay? We don't go there bro... gotta please the SJWs.

I started to replay Fallout 4 again after this game to scratch the itch OW gave me. You know, playing them back to back, FO4 is better in nearly all areas:

- much bigger world
- far more rewarding exploration
- in-depth crafting
- the world just feels more "true" - I could feel immersed while OW's world never really made me feel as part of it - it always felt like a game
- building a base & decorating it
- customizing your look
- weapon & armor modding
- enemy variety (especially in how they attack and the weapons they use)
- random encounters
- a world that "lives" on its own - mutants attack raiders, animals attack settlers, etc. In OW, it's all static and fixed.
- improving & updating your gear isn't a chore like the way it is in OW

OW is better in a few areas:
- you can roleplay better with more choices and outcomes
- companions have a little more to say and do
- your companions are a little bit smarter

OW is more like an old-school Fallout but without the turn-based combat and the brilliant setting. OW had a lot of potential when it came to its setting but I'm not sure it made the best use of it.

^ I agree.

Had a Fallout itch also after uninstalling this. Didn't had the time to scratch it yet. But installing / playing Fallout 4 is happening at least once a year, so it's time will come soon anyway... Laughing

Fallout 4 is a terrible RPG but a well-designed open-world survival/exploration-based title, while TOW is a decent RPG but a terrible exploration-oriented title.

What keeps Fallout 4 relevant and replayable for me as well despite all its glaring issues is the high level of immersion coming from the sandbox world itself and extensive modding support that improves almost everything that isn't the writing and RPG elements. They're two different first-person beasts, yet sadly none of them has the right alchemy. *cries in Mohave*

This is why I don't rate New Vegas as high as most people. I love RPGs but I love a good survival/exploration game more and to me New Vegas didn't feel right - they had to heavily cut content which made the game fall flat for me. Vegas was tiny, the world felt too compact, the locations not as interesting ... yet despite Fallout 3 having a better world to explore, most people prefer New Vegas. I just don't. And it's why I loved Fallout 4 from the start: it fit my play style and the "default" character you played was pretty much who I wanted to play as so I didn't miss the RPG elements that much

Since I started replaying FO4 I did try to play as a bad guy and now you see the cracks appearing since the game really doesn't let you go evil even though the dialogue tries. The voice is just not right, the dialogue choices not consistent and often your only "evil" choice is "fuck off no I won't do your quest" which is just lazy. So I went for a "rather grumpy guy who dislikes most people but pretends to be nice to get his way" which kind of works.

If people like Fallout 4 it's most certainly not for the RPG aspect of it.

Couldn't get an arrangement between MSI and the iconoclasts because I laughed about something Zora wanted and killed them. Darn. Once I went to Byzantium I dissed someone (can't remember now) and went guns blazing through it. Game upped a few notches, and I think I'm getting close to the end. Enjoying it greatly for what it is, a character-driven RPG with intriguing choices

This is perhaps the most SJW game i've ever played. Fuck this tbh, glad i only paid microsoft 1 dollar for it. Not a single long haired female, every female acts like men, men are sometimes long haired..............................., utter buffoons, generally weak willed.. you know, i think sjw's in general share many simiar traits as the evil corporations in this game.

Tl;dr its time for obsidian to go bankrupt.
