just saw this on a deal site, but as i dont have any 4k stuff, will my full hd movies n stuff look crap on a 4k native panel ?

https://www.mydealz.de/deals/medion-p15555-1388-cm-55-zoll-uhd-fernseher-4k-ultra-hd-triple-tuner-dvb-t2-hd-pvr-usb-hdmi-ci-mediaplayer-1462542

aka is it a good idea to buy a 4k tv when u really never watch 4k stuff or it doesnt really matter and all tv will be 4-8k anyway in future?

It's a very low brightness and very low contrast. Obviously no HDR.

I wouldn't buy this crap.

Regarding 1080p content, it's easy to upscale for 4K (2x on each dimension), so scaling is not really an issue. But still, that's not a good monitor.

Ive had a 4k for about 18 months now. tv has been set to 1080 for about 14 of those. Films and games look barely any different from 1080p unless your sat right against the screen actively looking for a difference. Windows 10 is still a little ropey with some apps, your storage space gets hogged with 4k rips and you lose lots of fps on your games.

Much happier with 1080p for the time being.

oh and 4 of the 4k pixels make a single 1080 pixel so there are zero scaling issues. its basically native.

Not everyone needs HDR, there's not that much content available in HDR anyway. I don't know what kind of panel this uses, but if it's TN, I wouldn't buy it, the viewing angles will be horrible. 720p looks "OK", but 1080p looks better of course. 1080p is 2x scaling, 720p is 3x scaling. Can't you download 1080p stuff?

Lidl is currently selling a 55" Grundig 4K HDR OLED for 899โ‚ฌ which is a steal. No Dolby Atmos though if you care for that.

Netflix premium subscription is a joke though when it comes to 4k HDR content.

I don't use torrents but for the stuff I'm watching (95% is TV) there's not much in HDR.

It's super strange! The 65 inch grundig, same model and featuresset is sold for 1999, more than twice what the 55 costs Laughing and in the end they use the LG panels too..

Will try to download some HDR releases in 4k, I still haven't come across something that is as good as the "demo" material preloaded to the TV.

Interstellar on Netflix (with the fucking 16โ‚ฌ/month subscription!) is simply in "HD" (I guess it's full HD, but DAMN Sad Amazing Spider Man 2 though is available in Dolby Vision... THANK YOU FOR NOTHING!)

Is there a big noticeable difference between Netflix premium and good 4K rips on a proper OLED? Is it worth the hassle of finding a good place to download good rips, actually download and use a proper media player?

Netflix premium has such a limited selection of high quality movies. Only their own content has proper 4k. I will download a good 4k release and check for myself.

I gave up on Windows and bought an Apple TV. Iโ€™d recommend going the streamer way, like nVidia Shield, Apple TV 4K or similar. Some TVs also allow you to connect a USB drive and play directly. That should also work, if the TV is capable of all codecs.

Netflix 4K, or at least what I was getting, was low quality. I have 200/200 network, but Netflix would often stream low quality. No way to force it to stream 4K. Thatโ€™s one of the major reasons I stopped my subscription. A 4K Blu-ray rip has a much higher quality, and itโ€™s quite noticeable. Iโ€™d recommend finding a good tracker with 4K stuff.
