Do you have enough Vram for those ultra textures? |
I have 8GB (game actually detects ~1GB less) And textures Ultra was selected by default from the game itself. With current settings it says barely 3GB vram used. |
It's the same for me. 8GB vram, and game detects like 6.125GB or something. And no matter what setting (even going all the way to ultra), it never goes over 3.5GB. Strange shit.
Game surpringly doesn't run like a potato on ultra though (4-year old gaming laptop; i7-4810MQ, GTX 980M 8GB, 32GB RAM, SSD), but obviously not smooth either (no fps indicator, fraps doesn't seem to work either). And I also noticed the game seems to run more sluggishly in interior than exterior, in the opening part of the game. Weird.

You can launch the game with the No GTAVLauncher
https://www.gta5-mods.com/tools/no-gtavlauncher
Rename RDR2.exe to GTA5.exe but then after it launched its bitching about Social Club..
If you wont have RGL open, it says "couldnt initialize graphic api" - if you have RGL open/logged in, it says "could not launch social club"

Well he got past the buggy launcher and was able to start the game, therefore it's peak optimization indeed

Well, if you can't deliver a game, no matter how good or bad the game is, that can't be used by a large portion of the user base or runs subpar to what you promise, you deserve to get bad reviews.
That's not review bombing, that is just reality.

Performance has been reasonably good with most settings on high / ultra but sometimes there is a clear framedrop for no apparent reason.
Kinda funny given this is on LTSC all with latest drivers on a 1950X @ 4GHZ, 32GB RAM, 2070 Super @ 2560x1080 on 34" Ultrawide.
Hopefully patches improve things but a poor launch really by Rockstar given all the crap folk are getting.
