I hated the invisible walls in the first (tutorial) area. Like those fenced gravestones. Why the fuck are they even in the game? To save money from putting a walkable terrain or creating some kind of mausoleums or buildings? Or when you "climb" some boxes or rocks and suddenly can't go further even tho you should be able to. Jumping and moving in general sucks in this game.
And the game doesn't really want you to explore without it telling you to because of the stupid quests. I mean I explored most of the area then people make me go back to take something or talk to someone. Waste of time to explore before taking quests. Even then you can still have to go few times to the same place. Maybe in the next planets that's fixed? I just finished the first planet and will see what's to come.
Shooting isn't much enjoyable too, as everyone else already stated. It's a decent game but I don't know if I will play it till the end.

Well it's not really an open world rpg and all your nitpicks come down that, so i guess either accept that or move on.
OK I think I played enough to write a short review of my pros and cons:
PRO: I like the game's style.
NEUTRAL : The chromatic aberration effect is not going to be liked by everyone and it can't be turned off in the menu without disabling other effects from what I noticed.
PRO: the controls feel fine without needing any tweaking. A lot of FPS these days suffer from a "drunk" mouse cursor until you disable all sorts of settings but games doesn't need any of it
PRO: performance on max on my 1070 Ti is fine. I only noticed a few slow downs. I didn't even install the latest drivers
NEUTRAL: your companions are fine but nothing special in terms of story or quests.
PRO: I like the combat - I don't get why some of you are so negative about it. It could use some more bells and whistles like grenades or specials but there is a decent amount of weapon variety and matching the right weapon with the right enemy works well.
PRO: I like how the areas are designed as well - it's not quite open exploration like Fallout but it's a lot more like Mass Effect, with large areas that have fixed borders.
NEGATIVE: the control interface needs tweaking. Having to hold a button to loot is too slow and if you press it, you open a menu you can only close with ESCAPE which is annoying to say the least.
NEGATIVE: the inventory is a chore to sort through. For some reason, it doesn't properly sort weapons by name even when it says it IS sorted by name. It makes cleaning your inventory tedious.
NEUTRAL: vendors are 95% of the time just for selling stuff. It's like that in games like Borderlands 2 (mostly) as well but I'd have liked vendors to have some better use.
NEUTRAL: combat is pretty darn easy once you hit level 10 and get companions. I'm playing on NORMAL so I think I should have gone for a harder setting.
POSITIVE: the quests are quite interesting most of the time
POSITIVE: I like the dialogue and voice actors and also how the game responds to different situations in the game. In that respect it's more like New Vegas.
POSITIVE: I like the "vibe" of the game with corporations being in control. This "safety last, profits first" mentality is very similar to that of Fallout
NEUTRAL: the weapon mods are ... weak. My inventory had like 50 of them at one point but you can only add a few to your gun and not all mods work on all guns so it's all a bit mediocre.
NEGATIVE: a lot of the game feels like corners have been cut. There's very few scripted events for example. Either NPCs have fixed locations where they stand, or you have enemies that come running at you if they spot you. In the 10-15 hours I can't even recall a single scripted event that actually animated NPCs or changed the environment.
NEGATIVE: Same with the AI: it's pretty basic. This doesn't bother me that much since many of my favorite games have basic AI including Fallout 3.
POSITIVE: I like the level of stats in this game. It's very Fallout-ish and the perks from your companions are good to have. I also like how the game, unlike Fallout, isn't a "inventory management simulator" because with a few perks you can easily carry a ton of stuff.
NEUTRAL: the main story isn't that special but then again Fallout stories usually aren't either.
In the end, I'm enjoying the game a lot. It's not breaking any new ground, borrowing heavily from Mass Effect and Fallout and a little bit from KOTOR but I like it. No, it's not flawless, yes its smaller budget is pretty obvious but I have a lot of fun exploring, doing quests and just playing. After playing Borderlands 2 (where weapon stats were more akin to Diablo 2-3) the combat feels a bit more shallow but you get a lot more RPG in exchange too ...

When everyone was talking about how similar to New Vegas it was, this is what they actually meant.
I barely played Fallout 3 or New Vegas. Tried couple of times only to uninstall them after 1-2 hours. They were just too depressing, from the world to the characters, weapons and colors. I know that's the idea for a post-apocalyptic game but it's just not for me.
Now Outer Worlds on the other hand is too colorful. Everything is fighting to be a prime color. Can barely distinguish between plants, ground and enemies.

I play on hard and it's too easy. And I am only level 6. Died a couple of times but that was because I don't use the "bullet time" to make it a bit challenging. Tho that's probably because I may a dumb fuck with below average intelligence stealth shooter. Should've chosen Supernova but there were too many things in that were more frustrating than challenging. Really liked how in ELEX, for example, you can choose your own settings for the difficulty.
I played on normal till lvl 20 till i reached Monarch planet, after i changed difficulty to hard and it's a little harder as the enemies tank more and do bigger damage and you can die pretty easy if you're not careful which is ok.
To hard is not any fun because it's just time wasting, since you'll kill the mobs eventually. There isn't any reward from it.
@red_avatar you can change difficulty in the options menu any time.
I was really tempted by the Supernova difficulty but the permadeath variable put me off, so I opted for the usual Hard even though it's a walk in the space park.

I'm only having graphical issues when looking in the inventory, the character has a black shade all over so you can't really see what it looks like in the armor :/
Friendship is like peeing on yourself; everyone can see it, but only you get the warm feeling that it brings.
I'm discovering that my main issue with this game right now is the futility of looting and balance. I got so much ammo it's not funny - 3000 rounds, 4000 rounds, etc. Maybe that's the result of starting on normal but you find way too much ammo so you're never forced to micro-manage it.
I also don't see much use for bits. You find so much crap in the wild ... I don't even use any of the chems, food or drinks because the benefits don't seem that great so I end up just selling it all. And now I got 50.000 bits and nothing to spend it on.

Do you have AMD graphic card and newest drivers?

I think you need the food and drinks only on the hardest difficulty. (not because of the hunger and thirst gauge, but due to the difficulty)
Even on the second hardest, I only keep the heal kits and sell everything else. I've yet to need any buffs. (level....~20)
After Edgewater I straight up jumped to Scylla because fuck the narrative. Killed every Primal and hostile robot there. Then with plasma and corrosion weapons, I managed to clear all monsters at the abandoned town in Monarch. Reached level 10, don't know what level are supposed to be the enemies on that planet, maybe 16-17 since that's the level of the weapons I find. I think I can go further but I am wasting too much ammo and when I go to the Groundbreaker it will be too easy and will totally screw up the difficulty.
Started to like the game more when I got used to the annoyances and when I understood the damage types vs certain baddies. Played 4 or 5 hours yesterday so I might finish it till the end of the week.
PS: Scylla is damn gorgeous rock but Monarch is ugly as shit.

I stopped caring about loot and I don't eeven remember buying anything yet. The amount of random loot is idiotic IMO. Stealing is also a joke, no NPC seems to give a shit. I'm just playing it for the story now, which is enjoyable.
The amount of ammo you have is probably due to starting on normal yes. Enemies require a lot more ammo in the beginning on hard.
i love how deep the dialogue trees go with most npcs^^
whereas in other games you will get a singular answer from an npc to your enquiry so you can progress quest xyz , here you can really press an issue and -if you choose to- piss people off in the process. you might start a conversation with random billybob from the streets on any given mundane subject and end up questioning his whole worldview, philosophy of life , morals and whatnot

They care the second time you steal something after being caught. I wiped out the shipping people at Fallbrook because someone saw me steal something on the roof the second time and then my companions start shooting back. Needless to say we ended up killing too many people to be forgiven so we pretty much destroyed any chance of befriending them again and closing their missions. Oh and we were shot on site at their office at the Groundbreaker station so wiped them out there too. Oops.

You are probably on AMD GPU with latest drivers. Revert back to the last WHQL drivers and it works. I had the same issue.
