Consider the IPD being fixed, i seem to be around 71mm. When i first put the Rift S on, i immediately noticed something wrong, since i am a high IPD user, it makes the outer parts of my vision inside the rift look blurry, maybe due to the lenses not being centered on my eyes. Software adjustment didnt do shit.

Sincerely i was about to return it, but the damn inside out tracking is so convenient and the clarity is VERY APPRECIATED. That alone made me stay with it, i sacrificed feeling a bit weird looking around for the ease of use and clarity.

Playing Onwards i noticed the downsides of inside-out, no matter what, aiming down the sight will give you jittery tracking, they have an option to solve this, but i hate it. Still, i can play everything else without worries or downsides, just FPS ADS taking a hit on the experience.

Now im used to it, having a little blurry outside sight sucks, but its ok, i enjoy it and i wouldnt go back to CV1

The hardware ipd is 64mm. Not 71. You can still set it in software too and it helps a bit regardless of lenses being fixed at 64mm.

I meant im 71mm, when i used the CV1 i was maxed out on the physical adjustment.

Ive tried all the IPDs on the software and it didnt make a diff, i didnt even notice it. regardless, i would go back to cv1 today.

Rift S construct quality is way less premium than CV1 indeed.

Headphones, materials used, regarding the controllers it is just the straps which are some simple leaver tin bands which will certainly break eventually.

Tracking is perfectly fine, absolutely no issues here even when doing room-scaling stuff or aiming by touching the headset with controller.

My biggest grip with Rift S was the missing IPD adjustement (me being 70mm) but as I said earlier, wearing my glasses made my experience cristal clear and fixed (for some reason) my "wrong" IPD thingy.

In no way I am returning to a CV1 with its low resolution Very Happy

Im very picky about tracking, i had 3 sensors since the first time they were available, i tried it all, i wanted full room tracking... and i dont find the Rift S tracking bad, im suprised it works that well. Having to avoid usb issues and sensor movement and adjustment, is a heaven sent. It turns to shit close to the face indeed, but the pros are so many i couldnt return it.

Rift S has to be tried to decide. I tried it, never going back.

Couldnt we have both (controller + hand motion).. i can see where sometimes i would want to hold something in my hand, e.g if firing a gun.. maybe i want my left hand free to interact with consoles, pick up stuff etc.

I can see numerous uses for being able to use your individual fingers in VR, playing virtual instruments would be a ton better for example (flute etc Laughing Rolling Eyes)

climbing would be hell of a lot cooler i think (one of my favorite things in VR).

But without the sensation of actually grabbing something, it would feel very odd.

Imagine playing and game with a handle to hold (sport, swords etc), but without anything to actually graps.. it would just feel wrong.

Without any form of haptics, I honestly can't see much point, outside of very niche uses (perhaps holding a fake guitar and using VR to help you play better or something.. I dunno.

Its actually really nice, i bought Leap Motion when it came out and i gotta say it worked great, it was fun, felt usable, very usable, sadly it had a bit of immersion breaking moments but seriously i was fun.

I wonder how good oculus tech is, cause leap motion.... i tried that almost 1-2 years ago. And at that time it was great. Cant imagine what could be achieved today.

yeah for some things its preferable to hold something, but lets say for climbing, typing on a console or for stuff where more fine mechanics (disarming, lock picking, cooking, social interactions etc) is required then obviously its way better. i'd prefer if both would be available.

I've not yet had the pleasure, but I would suggest the Index controllers looks to be the closest. If it was possible to put some sort of camera in the arch above the hand that could capture finger movements, and couple with being able to grab the controller itself... now I think THAT would work very well.

haven't had FB account since.... 2006 and never will, and all the 'gamer' accounts I create are getting deleted in a week or two (I've created an account specifically for a game / game character which I used to follow the company's facebook account to get freebies - I never post anything on those as ... why the fuck would I)

Facebook tends to delete those "fake" accounts. So, when they delete your account, what happens to your content (games, apps) that is asociated with it?

Certainly not going to sign up on FB for that. Laughing

But by 2023, when it will allegedly be made mandatory (if they don't further extend the date), I will certainly not be using the same headset as today as much better ones will have come to market, so I don't see it as an issue for me and certainly not regret my purchase of the Rift S which had the best value/money ratio when I bought it.
