I like it, the setting is fun and productrion values are high. I never liked Orlando Bloom, but Delevingne is good in this. She surprised me in Valerian and I think she's doing a very good job here. She might become a great actress in the future.
I think it gets better and better throughout the season since they're digging deep into the main story after the exposition taking place in the first couple of episodes.
Really? I didn't like how the mystery was handled, it was uninteresting to me in the end. The relation between the woman and the black guy was also so predictable and cliche.
I expected a lot of creativity and weirdness from the show, but it kept giving me cliche after cliche.
I didn't like that particular story line with the puck and high society lady. It felt too much like an edgier version of a Jane Austen-novel and felt shoehorned in.
I just finished it and I found it quite surprising. I had little expectation from a TV show set in a fantasy world tackling racism. But the storytelling mixed perspectives to make for a compelling plot. There were some moments of ignoreable social justice. But the biggest problem was the inconsistency in the quality of the writing quality of writing. Some dialogues felt off which led to some awkward if not unnecessary scenes.
The production value was above the average. The CGI was pretty good with a few exceptions. The costumes and sets were mostly good as well. Cara Delevingne performed way above my expectation set by Valerian and Orlando Bloom was good cast for the role.
I'm actually intrigued where the second season goes from here. The world is interesting and I hope they expand on its lore in a way that works with the political plot.
"Although the production has already been completed, the network is yet to release a specific premiere date. However, if things go accordingly, ‘Carnival Row’ season 2 will most likely release sometime in later 2021."
I have no idea why Amazon Prime is sitting on it. However, there's some possibly bad news as well:
Quote:
"Creator Travis Beacham left the show in October 2019 because of creative differences. Marc Guggenheim will also not be continuing as the showrunner as he is busy with other projects. Both of them will retain executive producer credits. Erik Oleson replaced Guggenheim as the executive producer and new showrunner."
I'm always weary of showrunners leaving the show. Just look at American Gods Season 2. Season 1 was fantastic, Season 2 was a disaster (and that showrunner was replaced) with Season 3 being somewhere in the middle. I enjoyed Season 3 of American Gods a LOT more than Season 2.
As far as Carnival Row is concerned, I really liked the first season. It was so different and unique compared to any other fantasy based show. Looking forward (with some apprehension) to Amazon releasing Season 2.
