So yeh, fully renovated like half the apartment, and did the wiring all through fake walls / fake ceiling and shit. Only that i missed something ( well, sort of missed, mostly didnt want to bother with it). Won’t have an hdmi cable running from my pc to my tv anymore ( was mostly thinking i’ll only game on my PC on my monitor, which is still true for 90% of the time, but on those rare ocasions ... plus distance from pc to tv would have required a 5m hdmi cable minimum... which is obviously bad for signal.

Is there any way to get the same ( or close to ) experience as hdmi cable plugged from pc to tv? 120hz 1080p or 4k 60fps with HDR and Atmos or... amifucked?

Was looking at Nvidia shield TV, problem is it’s no longer available here in Romania .. and cba not buying local.

Thanks in advance.

Why is a 5M HDMI cable bad for the signal? I've had it set up like that for years (games and movies). I also have another 5M DisplayPort cable doing a similar thing (8K @ 60Hz, 4K @ 144Hz). Both are great. It's only a problem if you buy shitty cables.

Good luck with streaming though, if you decide to go that way. I tried a Shield, Steam link, direct to the TV via WiFi etc and all had problems. None could replicate the quality. Nothing beats a cable!

Well had 2 expensive ( good cables ) 5m before and while 4k60 was fine.. 4k60fps AND HDR had issues ( intermittent signal i think? Signal just cut randomly for half a second. In theory from what i read because of the longer distance which meant signal ( even if rated at 18gbps ) was lower. After getting a 3m one, no issues anymore.

Anyway sadly cable isnt an option anymore, can’t get it through the walls / ceiling and I’’ not gonna drag any more visible cables. Guess i’m done playing pc on tv. So no more HDR except console.

Optical cables is the solution.

https://www.cablechick.com.au/blog/hdmi-20a-uhd-4k-with-hdr/

Active optical HDMI-cables with no loss in signal fidelity at up to 100 meters. No external power source required. They're pricey though.

I stream via wifi to appletv 4k just fine.

And it also supports steam link and with beta build (tvOs) you can now also connect xbone and ps4 wireless controllers to it.

Also works great for 4K streaming (netflix etc). All over wifi.

You have stable 18+ Gbps wifi through walls (thin ones in this case) at home? Remember, high quality 4K60 with HDR requires a lot of bandwidth (~18.2Gbps) and copper cables don't seem to cut it regarding signal quality over a 5 meter cable.

@russ80: have you thought about trying an active HDMI-cable? They're unidirectional with active hardware. Then you have HDBaseT which uses network cables to transfer the data from a transmitter to a receiver. It's a bit expensive though. Wink

The CYP - MA-421 (4 x 2 AV Distribution Matrix incl PUV-1710LRX-AVLC Receiver) is clocking in at £1,255.

I'm going to say something really revolutionary now...

Disconnect PC->Carry to TV->Connect PC to TV->done.

Seeing it's only for 10% of your time, your anal about having it at the fullest during that time... just spend 5 minutes of work instead of cash. Razz

Well, you can just as well connect an AppleTV to ethernet gbit or whatever. That being said, if I see suggestions of stuff costing 1200£, just for a cable connection, it all seems like a moot point anyway.

Like i said, sadly Nvidia shield TV isn't available to buy here, would have to order online from another country (and don't like having no warranty locally). That said, it remains an option for the future if i'll REALLY need it.

Will apple tv 4k work? That i can buy and even test to see if it's good enough, if not return it.

Also will it work only with steam? Cause i got games on other platforms as well / or pirated. Can i just stream my desktop completely? Or... how does it work to play the other platform / pirated games.

Thanks guys.

Edit: also small info, not sure if relevant. PC / TV / consoles will be connected to the same router/network by cable.

I simply add games to steam and use steam link to play them. With new beta build (or soon official release), AppleTV supports xbone and ps4 controllers (via bluetooth). Works very well, even when using wifi, but ofc optimal is wired.

+1

Works really well indeed. Has anyone managed to make Forza/Xbox Pass games work with Steam Link using Apple TV 4K? I tried to add Forza 4 as non-Steam app and I can launch it but controlls are mess so it's resolution and aspect ratio as well. (My monitori is ultrawide and TV 16:9)

Wait, what? Can't you stream movies from, say, MXPlayer in your phone to your Chromecast? Screencast/DLNC runs antipiracy detection? WTF

He's using a cracked streaming app, so I understand that an old Chromecast can't receive video directly from android extSd if not through paid app?
