Update on the stupid chipset fan topic. I don't really need it still BUT gigabyte is sending me a whole chipset cooling unit (heatsink + fan).
I have to admit - Gigabyte is really winning this time. Fast updates (as compared to others) and great no fuss customer support even though I've clearly voided the warranty.

The MSI X570-A PRO sounds nice. It's one of the cheaper X570 mobos (~170€ currently), has ALC1220 audio (important to me) and results in the benchmark up there are pretty good.
Any catch I've overlooked? Otherwise I'll probably buy that one.
It has below average power delivery and chipset/VRM/M2 cooling. It should only be a problem if you have to OC beyond the boost clocks you can get on auto.
Don't be scared by "below average". The x570 mobos have much better build quality, so even below average is good enough for the normal user.
Ok thx. No need for pushing anything to the limit, default/auto is fine.
Just glad to finally get away from my ancient P7P55D-E/i7 860 combo.
Going to get the 3700X and probably 16gb DDR4 (3600mhz CL18) - trying to stay below 100€ for the RAM.
Should be around 600€ total for the upgrade which happens sometime in September, but I'll be on the lookout for any sales.

Do you know which that would be? My current choice was CMK16GX4M2D3600C18.
I've seen some benchmarks and it seems 3600mhz is the sweet spot, but if there's a better one with 3200mhz I'll get that instead.
I don't know where you live, but over here the only proper RAM was the corsair ballistic 3200mhz c16 with the AES description. The rest is overpriced IMO for what you get in return. You could always get 3200 and oc.
Interested in a new build based on Zen 2. Looking at Mainboards at the moment.
Does a vendor currently have a bad rep regarding their UEFI implementation/support that I should be aware of? Or notoriously crappy Windows software?
The Asus Crosshair VIII Hero (Wi-Fi) looks like a promising candidate for me due to Bluetooth and a lot of 10Gbit USB ports. Anyone have an opinion on that?

I personally wouldn't buy a motherboard just for the audio chip, better get a PCI/USB audio card, sounds much better and they typically have little interference, and also no cracking with high CPU usage (very common with onboard chips).
The AES are very nice, I have the 3000 variant (was the cheapest), running at true 1T, not with GDM.
Too late I already got the mobo here at home. Also the ram. I'm only missing the CPU now. Its one of the cheapest x570 mobos anyway (I got it for €163) and also happens to have a supposedly good audio chip as well. I read some reviews and checked its rightmark results, it's not as good as the best Gigabyte x470 board and some of the most expensive (>400€) x570 but it beats most other more expensive x570 boards and even slightly beats my old, now dead, Creative X-Fi soundcard in all areas. (dynamic range etc.)
I guess they didn't test under load though, so I hope audio won't degrade too much but on the box it says it's extra isolated to work well under load.

Depends on the chip. Intel's chips usually have their own cpu ie. hw processing while realtek, marvell and others use sw processing which might affect on cpu usage.

I've never had issues with Realtek's LAN on high CPU usage, throughput remains the same. No noticable loss in performance either. Intel vs Realtek isn't worth it, I've tried both out several times and it's within the margins of errors. Back when it was 100 Mbit, I always got 100 Mbit regardless of motherboard/chip, now everything is upgraded to 1 Gbit and I get 1 Gbit to all PCs in my network. My network cables aren't spectacular or anything either, just what I had around. My main cable from the top of the house to bottom is at least 15 years and runs fine on Gbit speed. I only had to replace one cable (from the switch to my main PC) in home network that failed to go above 300 Mbit. I also needed a new switch as the old one was hard limited to 100 Mbit.
Other reviews show the same.
Onboard audio is not very good usually, it produces sound but that's about it. I've used a Creative X-Fi a really long time before switching to a Creative Sound Blaster Omni 5.1 (USB) as I didn't have a PCI slot anymore. The difference compared to all onboards I've heard is a lot. The ALC892 currently in my system is a little better than the one from the previous system but it's nowhere near the Creative card/USB. If you have speakers of 2€ I don't think you'll hear the difference though
If I were to buy another USB card again it wouldn't be the Omni though. The drivers they ship it with are garbage, they crash a lot and their "enhancements" completely ruin the sound. But Windows drivers work fine, mostly, and retain the range of the audio chip.
thinking about making myself a nice birthday present. so need to decide wether its x470 or x570. namely the X470-AORUS-ULTRA-GAMING for only 130 bucks or the Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite for roughly 200 bucks. both still expensive boards, i never paid 200 for any mobo. think the most expensive was my p5b deluxe back in the days, must have been around 160 euros.
con for the x470 board is still the need of an older cpu to flash the bios (no, the msi boards are no option for me) or need to pay the shop 30 bucks to flash the newest bios. but thats imho too much, would have paid 10 for that without problems but 30 is way too much. so the x470 board gets a lot more expensive all together with 160 bucks. and from there to 200 for x570 isnt that much anymore...
Yeah, I initially wanted to get an X470 board as well but its just too much hassle with the bios flashing.
I should get my 3700X early next week, then I can finally send my 10 year old i7 to rest Happy birthday btw

X570 might be a better pick with the price difference in mind. It have better future proof and maybe a bit less hassle regarding the flashing and compatibility shortcomigns compared to X470. X470 wouldn't be the end of the world because you can always upgrade but if you want to play safe go with X570 and pray that the chipset fan lasts long enough.

My 3600 works great so far Shops asking 30 is too much, maybe try another shop? Most here ask only 10-15€. You can also lend a boot kit or a CPU from someone else.
The developer of the Ryzen Dram Calculator (who appears to have some insider knowledge) posted on twitter that the 3950x is on the horizon. Nothing official from AMD.
@Janz: why not got for a used x470 mobo and ask the owner to update the BIOS? That's what I did. The difference between a stock 3700 and an OCed 3570K has been massive for me in games.
@Shocktrooper: thanks, but still have about a week time left
@mister_s: havent found any reasonable offers for used boards
@areius: no other online shop here offers bios updates, and no local dealers are no options. only two around, and well they suck. i dont even think any of them has a ryzen 1,2 on hold to flash a board
You're from Germany if I recall? Surely there must be more than one shop offering the service Alternate has it here at least, although not as cheap as others though. My main shop does BIOS update + putting CPU on board for 10€. Alternate for 25€ (too expensive) and another company does it for 20€.
Mostly shops do not have it as an option to order, but you need to ask them for custom order. Otherwise I would just get a cheap CPU from eBay or something, the cheapest compatible CPUs go for ~30€ here, then resell it
i usually order from mindfactory when its more than one piece of hardware, never had problems with them in the last 10+ years. even ordered a lot of stuff for pcs i build for friends there. delivery only takes one day and they have the lowest prices most of the time. and they want 30 bucks for the bios update
and since im already spending money (and will need to reinstall windows) im thinking about a
Corsair Force Series MP510 960GB, M.2 ~145 euros
makes a total of 821 euros. sure i could cut it down to ~620 with reducing 32gb ram to 16gb and skipping the ssd (which i dont really need tbh)
should be able to sell my old xeon + board + 16gb of ram for about 160-170 euros (which is still a great value, the xeon alone is still worth 100 euros. i paid 204 euros when i got in late 2013)
