4 episodes in and i really like this show.
Already hoping for a 2nd season.
What a gem
The second season has already been confirmed, and considering how much success this is getting we'll maybe get a third - no idea if they want to wrap it up in those 2 seasons though.
I love Karl Urban, bit of an underrated actor I feel. He was the main reason I was initially interested in this show. While his character is rather simple in this compared to other characters, he's still bloody awesome!

I love his cockney-ish accent with lots of kiwi-isms sneaking in, whether it's intentional or not it fits the character
Him sounding like a Kiwi is unintentional sadly. Butcher is a Brit and that mish-mash of an accent made a friend of mine think he's from Australia until I corrected him. Actually seen quite a few people on the web mistaken about his nationality

Are you talking about the character? Urban's NZ background does make him sound a like an Aussie at times in that show
Butcher is supposed to have been raised in England. Don't think I've ever seen Australia mentioned, but I binge read the comics and could have forgotten about it though !
No clue why the British actor has this Australian accent at times then, perhaps not to sound like a snob but some kind of guy who's seen it all, something that'd fit with his character for American audiences or something. Maybe the actor is trying to mimic some specific regional British accent (cockney) and fails at it, no clear idea about that, not being a native speaker.
Another possibility is that Butcher used those Australian idioms in the comic books themselves and the author fucked up with that, mistaking it for British ones.

Right, talking about Billy Butcher the character.

I assumed the character was a Brit who grew up in Aussie land. Was that accent supposed to be British?
Billy Butcher is a Brit and has no ties to Australia or NZ. Urban's Kiwi background made the accent funky.

There were more than a few phrases that sounded distinctly Australian/NZ and not British, I couldn't figure out what he was supposed to be until I read about who he was
I feel the producers should invest in a dialect coach for him.
It didn't matter to me that much even though I noticed his british accent has strong overtones of kiwi. His american accent is better (I guess because the american accent isn't as close to nz/aussie accent as southern english).

Indeed thanks, to me the awkward hybrid made it even more amusing though, they might as well keep rolling with that and make the cockwi official
Finished it. Really liked it. Favorite show of the year so far.
Homelander is such an intimidating character, my favorite in the show for sure. Butcher is so driven by hate that it gets a bit much, feels a bit forced because the script requires it, no biggie, still great.
Yeah, loved the show too. Mainly because of Homelander and Butcher. For a while i had a problem seeing Anthony Starr looking so different than in Banshee I never knew Urban is a New Zealander, was surprised to hear the accent.
Spoiler:
Its strange though, that The Boys ain't pissing their pants that Homelander will cut them in half. The guy ain't fucking stable.
