...and you've got to listen now.
So sit down and STFU until I'm done.
My ASRock X370 Taichi is total crap and I regret it A LOT.
Why?
Because of two very time-consuming things:
A) built-in wifi intel 3168* based chipset has UNSTABLEsupport on Linux (the Intel firmware blob is crap).
B) the SATA Ports documentation in the manual is WRONG, the actual mapping I had to find out via TRIAL, ERROR, REBOOT, TRY AGAIN, REPEAT.
First of all after installing my Linux on it, I would connect to it via SSH and it worked, but after few minutes the connection gets lost and you cannot reconnect until reboot.
This almost drove me crazy, because I assumed maybe I did something wrong or maybe the config on that distro had some caviats or so.
The last thing I even remotely considered is some HW based error, until I had to find out the hard way.
Then the same thing happend on the configuration of my RAID.
When I booted it up, I noticed in the BIOS that the port mapping and serial numbers were all mixed up, but I didn't know why, because I labeled ALL components (Hard Drives, Cable towards Mobo, Cable towards HDDs) and I know I didn't make a mistake.
See I connected the HDDs like it's described in the manual, but in the BIOS there was one gap between the ports and also my latest two new disks (that I used for expanding my RAID, marked in red above) were not the last two, but "mixed inbetween the old disks and some gaps.
The manual describes the SATA port mapping wrong:
https://static.raru.co.za/pdf/5601119-5438-user-manual.pdf
The actual, proper mapping is this here and it does match with the actual order of the bays / connections now:
Now you know.
This is absolutely incredible and I'm super duper mad!!!
If I knew this shit ahead of time I'd save the money for a more expensive mobo (139€) and by another for 90€ and then some external Wifi PCIe card.
And the thing with the ports is just ridiculously embarrasing, seriously.
The worst part about it: the Mobo got a lot of praise from "Tech YouTubers" ... "reviews", which is really what drived me mad, like ... those are the FIRST THINGS THAT POPPED INTO MY ATTENTION ... and not a single word about them in the reviews.
Srsly, I hope those fuckers gets cancer in the ass and die slower than a black hole evaporates...
