Manbaby writer and director Ruin Johnson (Brick, Looper, The Last Jedi) pays tribute to mystery mastermind Agatha Christie in KNIVES OUT, a fun, modern-day murder mystery where everyone is a suspect.
When renowned crime novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) is found dead at his estate just after his 85th birthday, the inquisitive and debonair Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) is mysteriously enlisted to investigate.
From Harlan’s dysfunctional family to his devoted staff, Blanc sifts through a web of red herrings and self-serving lies to uncover the truth behind Harlan’s untimely death.
With an all-star ensemble cast including Chris Evans, Ana De Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Don Johnson, Michael Shannon, Toni Collette, LaKeith Stanfield, Katherine Langford and Jaeden Martell, KNIVES OUT is a witty and stylish whodunit guaranteed to keep audiences guessing until the very end.
Since you posted this, it is your duty to take one for the team and tell us how it was
Haha I won't be watching this release
From the sample it looks like your typical buccaneerish Xvid stuff, though it requires to adjust the audio a bit (+ ~200ms) since it doesn't appear to be completely in sync. Ghetto style
His own shit is usually good.
Brick.
Looper.
Brothers bloom.
Star wars is an exception.
However if the last jedi wasn't part of the new trilogy and its own thing with different characters not related to the trilogy... It would have been semi decent.
But he drank the progressive Kool-Aid so his story ideas are compromised to benefit the blue hairs but his filmmaking is still too notch.
Knives Out has pretty much received great reviews by both critics and audiences (I recall member reviews here too) and was a box office success as well.
TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"
From his previous output, I've only liked Brick so I guess a return to the Mystery genre is doing him good. As Wanda said, as long as he remains on his own work it's fine but now the ponce isn't hiding how he panders to the overly online people with his so called "genre deconstruction" and "political/social commentary".
Watching it now.
Typical rian Johnson quality of film making.
Good voices throughout.
Decent sound track.
Writing a bit weak. Either it needed to be longer, or shorter. Current length didn't fit for me.
Shorter lot of stuff trimmed out. Useless stuff.
Longer to add more stuff in, more reasons, more fun.
Would have made a great Netflix series though.
Feels as if it was though. Feels like an abridged version of a series. Little bits here and there aimed as cliffhanger for following episode.
Brothers bloom level quality.
Not as good as brick or Looper.
Better than last jedi.
I thought it was dumb. Especially the whole ending/explanation was retarded.
Well it is a very progressive movie. But if you ignore that bs - it's very fun and well made. Explanation was weak. Saw-esque. Dead man isn't dead. But no clues as to why he wasnt dead. :/ so twist ending he ain't dead lolololololol now cut off your leg. Even though you watched me dead on the floor for hours w/o noticing me breathe or shit.
Same shit here. Wrote himself to the ending and had to figure out how it'd work out. It's forced and cheap, but it works for the setting. It's fun.
I'd give it more than 15 minutes. Characters are unique and interesting. Needed more time with the characters. Would watch a Netflix season of these characters. Hoping the 2nd one is more.
No, the question that motivated Daniel Craig's character was unanswered until the very end. I liked the film a lot.
Also, the first 30mins are almost a parody of a regular whodunit. Someone in the film jokes that the victim practically lived on a Clue-board
The film reveals its complexities afterwards.
