Not even for free. A friend bought it on release and he said it was one of the worst games he ever paid for. All these hyped articles all over the web before rls and even more hyped reviews (guess they got paid a ton of $$$) and I can't remember reading about that game at all afterwards.
But I guess it appeals to the casual-no-challenge-pls-12year-old-console-player-of-today. HEY KALTERN, HEY KALTERN! *waving* ;>
I enjoyed the game, not challenging for sure but relaxing and it got beautiful dinos FFS !
And lots of Goldblum inside
I like Goldblum too, but has he ever done VO work before? Because it honestly sounds like he phoned his performance in. No excitement at all.
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

I don't even own a console
Maybe that's why it appealed... lack of challenge meaning I didn't have to stress about the price of a tshirt unless I wanted to.
Don't get me wrong, there's no way this game is going to hold my attention for much longer. I guess the devs did what was asked of them - and no more. Anything that involved actual thought and planning would cause those poor consolians to suffer brain haemorrhage and die...

The game has such a beautiful engine, there's realistic foliage, the dinosaurs are well modeled and animated, everything is designed to give a nice first impression. But then, the pretty egg cracks and a horde of sneaky hollow embryons of Lazyraptors start creeping through the facility. The few tasks available have little depth and a limited sense of progress, there's repetitiveness, the customization is lacking, the AI routines are barebones, there is simply no soul in the game like in a genetically altered Gingersaurus Rex.
Pretty much what Lord Ixi said. That's exactly it. It SHOULD have been epic. It SHOULD have been a monumental tale of the battle between survival and money... but .. it's typical Frontier. Build a gorgeous world, put the framework for deep and meaningful gameplay in.. and leave it at that. Such a waste, like Elite Dangerous and Planet Coaster. Both games should have been the top games in their field... but are as shallow as a dried up Loch.
My well thought out theory is they simply play it too safe. They don't want to confuse those poor Millenials with depth and complex mechanics... they stop just before that point. It shows in every game they've made.
Or.. it could indeed be pure laziness.. but I'm loathed to say that because the actual developers - they people who do the actual work - put a LOT of effort into their game. All Frontier game visuals are superb, their audio work is worthy of an Emmy... it's just the decisions at the top that cripple everything, every time. Play it safe, play it simple - That's what it seems to be, every time.

Holy shit, the engine of this is terrible. So I see a lake, right, and I have turned screenspace reflections in the options. So I zoom in and set the angle so that the trees around should be reflected. There is no reflection. 2-3 seconds later, suddenly it fades in the fucking reflection. I zoom in on vegetation, and 2-3 seconds it suddenly crossfades between the low shadow and the details shadows. Is this some Unity shit?
Call me superficial, but this is really jarring to me. Pop in often really disturbs me for some reason, but async pop in with 2-3 seconds delay (seems to be universal in all aspects of the engine) is just mind boggingly retarded.
I don't understand what "faked" means. It takes what has been rendered to a texture in one or more previous rendering passes (hence the term "screen space") and is mirrored to appear as if reflection. In a games like this, it can be pretty effective because it's mostly terrain and the camera angles are limited, unlike first or third person shooters.
In this engine, it seems they are trying some kind of optimization to disable it if the camera angle is low and the camera is high, which is fine, but they seem to be checking once in a few seconds, rather than per frame, which creates this retarded effect. Since screen space reflection is rather cheap these days, I don't see why they would be doing that at all, unless consoles or cheapos with 4 year old hardware. In that case, they can just turn off the damn reflection of their hardware can't take it.
Here’s a list of the changes coming to Jurassic World Evolution in Update 1.5:
Group Leaders and Sleeping Behaviour: as per fan feedback, Frontier will be implementing these two improvements to dinosaur AI. Dinosaurs will now look for a Group Leader and follow their behavior, creating a group dynamic between them. Leadership contests will occur, leading to changes in the Group Leader. Groups will try to stick together in the face of danger, as well as when eating, drinking, and sleeping. In addition, dinosaurs will now sleep when they’re idle; this behavior will combine with the new group function, so dinosaurs will often sleep together as part of a group.
Day/night cycle: Jurassic World Evolution will now cycle between day and night for what Frontier calls “a more dynamic environment”. Career players will need to unlock this setting by achieving 5-star ratings on each island, but Challenge and Sandbox players will be able to access the day/night cycle right away.
Larger capacities for feeders: Frontier has implemented larger capacity feeder types which also require players to resupply them less frequently. This doesn’t apply to the game’s goat feeders, though.
New contracts: players will have access to a range of new contracts, including selling dinosaurs with certain gene modifications or raising their infamy rating.
In addition to these major new features, a series of minor bug fixes and tweaks will also be part of Update 1.5 for Jurassic World Evolution. We’ll have more news on this update once it’s been released, as well as more details on the upcoming paid content.

I liked it... But it lacks depth and a sense of urgency to be honest. Once you start mining fossils money issues are irrelevant now, the upgrades to the chopper and jeeps are useless. Mods to the Dinos equally useless unless needed for a mission requirement. Carnivores are too violent. Herbivores too moody and needy, oh its too busy here, or I don't have my bros with me, oh there is no water here, shade is too little... Give me a break! U think I have any trees or shade where I live? No! Do I have my own lake? No! But do I bitch and start smashing my fences and attacking my neighbors? Sometimes! But not as often as you lot!
