Over a week ago I started getting random BSOD errors or complete system freezes.
I did nothing special, nor did I change anything before it all started.
And I am using this system now for around 2 years, flawless. No issues ever. Only added a custom CPU cooler almost 2 years ago and worked great ever since.

My specs:
i7-6700k
GTX1070
2x8GB DDR4
ASUS Maximus VIII ranger
250GB SSD (samsung in both cases)
I never overclocked anything.

The BSOD errors:
WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR(happens most, even up to today)
DRIVER_OVERRAN_STACK_BUFFER
UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_MORE

Steps that I have taken so far:
- Installed Windows 8, also BSOD. Installed Windows 10 around 4 times.
- Memtest86, both sticks seperately. 4 passes each. No errors.
- Switch power cable and sata cable for ssd
- new cooling paste for CPU
- chkdsk /f /r /x. No error.
- Disable realtek audio as primary
- CMOS battery taken out
- update BIOS
- Try memory bank switching, or use only one memory stick.
- Prime95,BurninTest,CrystalDisk. No errors or crashes except once.
- GTX1070 taken out and use onboard (it worked good for a day, so I was thinking it would be the GPU, then it crashed again.)
- Intel CPU diagnotics. No errors.

*new BSOD: KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE

- Bought a new SSD in meantime and switched SDD, clean install of Windows 10

Again it crashed with the use of the new SSD.

*new BSOD: KERNEL_THREAT_PRIORITY_FLOOR_VIOLATION

I am clueless and the problem is that I moved to China a while ago, so it is not easy for me to just get help etc. I am still getting used to how things work, so I am trying to solve this myself.
Because those small shops they have around here.... I do not trust that at all. But I really need my computer for study, work, contact with my family etc.

After all these tests, my feeling tells me it is either the PSU or MOBO. But I have no hardware to switch with, so I need to take a gamble and buy something (like I did with the SSD) and hope for the best.

Added a picture that shows a list of events that happened during a crash.

Will this work?
https://www.filehosting.org/file/details/795769/dumps.rar

The PSU is a Seasonic 550w (can not remember the precise type, as it has been over 2 years since I built the computer)

Let me add something:
I noticed that when I install my realtek drivers for sounds, there is a clicking sound in my pc. Also when I disable the device in device manager or enable, something clicks. I can not figure out where the click comes from, nor do I know if this is normal as I never really had to reinstall things for two years.

compiled the dumps, and found, nothing. atleast nothing which can be nailed down to one component. will get to that later

you os version is outdatet (atleast the dumps report they are created von 17763.1, that version that was never released outside of the insider program, but was still the base version that got installed and instantly updated) but if you say it happens on 8 too we can skip that problem

what you can try, cause it seems its not a hardware problem itself, more like a driver running crazy. make sure to updated to the latest cumulative update, its 17763.437. update any driver manually, not from the mainboards page, search directly for the realtek sounddriver, intel nic etc. and put the intel inf updates into place, they arent chipset drivers anymore like they used to be bug maybe windows is detecting something wrong

Thanks for replying so quickly!
going to work on it right away and see how things work out. Will download the realtek driver and according to my system info, it is now 17763.437. Used the Intel driver assistant software to check for updates, that could not find updates. Will try to download them anyway from official sites.

Oh I forgot to mention, that one time the system also had a BSOD even during a a new Windows 10 installation. This was on the old SSD, before I replaced it.

try booting and instaling from/on a usb drive to exclude the sata/sdd being faulty, then if u eliminated gfx and ssd, ur down to fewer components

replace power supply/ask to borrow from a friend to see if maybe its no longer supplying the needed voltages on its rails.

if it crashes during installation, its almost always a harware issue, not drivers/software

crashing within the setup can be a driver issue too, even just the fact that the installer and system combination doenst like that specific usb thumb drive (which may work on other systems without problems)

faulty psu is unlikely if it even crashes with only the igpu used. ram already tested, so that shouldnt be the problem as well as the ssd and its cables

if its a hardware problem its the mainboard itself (0,0001% its the cpu), maybe the sata controller is borked

thinking about it, you said you moved. completely disassemble and rebuild the system. means removing the cpu from the socket too! check for bended pins of the socket in that step too. maybe due to being shipped or whatever the cpu got slightly pushed and looses contact on some pins or whatever

Disconnect everything that isn't necessary for the PC to boot, run with one stick of RAM and a single HD/SSD, use the iGPU on the CPU and see if it crashes under use. Yes, it's boring but it's the right way to search for culprits.

Little update:

Yes I did check for bended pins, all looks perfectly fine.

I had crashes again during downloading some drivers, so I decided to do a new Windows 8 installation on my new SSD.
The moment the setup was done and I entered windows 8 for the first time, it crashed when installing the wifi usb (TP-Link), and I also bought a new WIFI USB last week after all the crashes. Same WHEA BSOD as in Windows 10.
Now this error also occured before, when I did not use any WIFI USB. And I used the front panel USB as the back panel usb.

So once again I did a new Windows 10 install from a bootable USB stick. But before I did that I took out the 1070GTX. So nothing is connected except my SSD, I have nothing else in there at the moment. I also tried once before even disconnecting the front panel stuff. Still gave BSOD.
So during Windows 10 installation it crashed twice, once BSOD (WHEA error) and once a complete freeze. Third time it worked, I am now again in Windows 10, fully updated, no 1070GTX, both RAM sticks but I already tried with just one before (tried both sticks seperately). There is also no DVD drive, no other HDD or SSD. This time I even took out the audio plug (yes I know it sounds weird but I am desperate).

I am desperate to buy a new PSU or MOBO. Which would you recommend looking at all the issues so far?
Never ran into such a hassle before with my computers.

Try the PSU first (or get both both) and if it still crashes with one part return it. Assuming where you live has decent return policies.

It's your motherboard, a friend of mine had those exact errors and it was down to the motherboard, once he changed it everything was fine.

My computer has become unusable, it crashes within a minute after loading windows. Mostly the WHEA error or a complete freeze.
So I decided to buy some new hardware, will order it this week.
MSI b360m mortar, intel i5 8500 and also a new CM 550w psu.
These might not be the best choices perhaps, but my choices are limited.
I already bought a new SSD and the 1070 seems fine as it also crashes without the card. Not only that, last day I can not even use the onboard vga properly, monitor light just blinks and screen stays black.
Using my phone now to post this message -__-

PC is working again Smile
Installed the new hardware and everything is fine.
Still not sure if it is the MOBO or CPU, but don't care any more Laughing

Thanks for all the replies and help.

Nah it was all pretty old and I bought most in The Netherlands and brought them with me to China and built the computer again.
So I kept them. The old PSU and SSD are good. The CPU and MOBO, no clue but kept them Smile
