It seems it's going to be released as an Apple store exclusive for mobile devices as well as PC.
For me, BASS is my favorite game ever so I'll be the first to criticize it if they fuck up so I hope they don't . Going 3D is their first mistake I believe, though. Broken Sword 5 was far better than BS3 & 4 so why they'd go for 3D I don't know. The problem with 3D is that it's too clean for the world they want to create.
The original game oozed atmosphere - everything was rusted, dirty, stained, greasy, etc. and the pixel art did an amazing job in showing this. Unless you spend a ton of money on a great engine and talented artists, mimicking that in 3D is very hard and hardware-demanding and considering this is going to be an Apple mobile game, it's unlikely this will be the case.
I actually replayed this again couple of weeks ago...for the...can't even remember how many times...one of my favorite adventures...Apple exclusive means no Windows then?
This new game looks okish, but doesnt come close to the atmosphere of the original.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."
The trailer i watched from the fisrt certainly didn't either.
The first actually did feel dark in many areas. The game actually starts at dawn hence the deep orange sky at the start and you see the brighter lower areas later on, but the upper areas are rusty, dark, depressing and most in-door areas have the same atmosphere.
I doubt they'll be able to match the atmosphere which is a shame. The atmosphere was such a huge part of the game.
Also very important: one of the writers of BASS got into a fight with Cecil over the mood of the game. Cecil wanted a more serious dark mood, that writer (forgot his name) wanted more light hearted jokes thrown in there. That's why the mood can be confusing at times but it's part of the game's charm. That writer left after they made BASS though, due to this disagreement and quit developing games altogether. I wonder how they'll approach the sequel.

Well, it seems to be a popular game so i'm actually thinking about playing it.

If you consider the game got people hooked decades after its release, I'd say it's definitely worth a go if you enjoy old school point n click adventure games.
There's no other adventure game close to it in terms of a dark atmosphere and setting except, perhaps, for the much inferior I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream. Actually, there's one other adventure game: Sanitarium but that used a lot of early rendered 3D so doesn't feel quite as gritty.
Im a huge adventure fan and this is great news but going 3d has killed a number of franchises for me. No matter how good the quality it just never seems anywhere near as good as hand drawn and the controls are normally horrible. The Longest Journey and Syberia 3 instantly come to mind. Couldn't even complete them.

Agree, would prefer something in the same vein it wouldn't need a colossal budget and 200 strong dev team. Why not visually aim for something like modernized Westwood Blade Runner?

And it would mean it wouldn't work as well for consoles and handhelds. The sad truth is that the PC no longer gets priority. Revolution was an Amiga dev to begin with so they never had much PC loyalty from the start (Broken Sword was also released on Playstation 1 after all). The moment the PC market for adventure game slowed down a bit, they went full on 3D, again for console audiences, and mostly alienated their own audience. I found the 3rd & 4th game to feel very empty.
Replayed the original loads of times, loved it.. my 2nd best point and click adventure game but this looks meh.. can we emu it at all? I doubt it will ever come to PC.

The cartoony Telltale-sque art style definitely doesn't help when it comes to providing an immersive dystopian atmosphere, sadly. The game might still turn out decent, but from the various gameplay videos it's quite jarring to see the contrast between the cinematic approach and the overall cheapness of its technical side.

Yup, looks quite cutesy and doesn't help in conveying the dystopian atmosphere of the original. Speaking of which, I could never get past that stupid area where we had to speed up/slow down in the machine interface to get some data or was it a security key.
