Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse - 9/10

Despite an all too familiar third act, the film leaves a very strong impression because of its technical and artistic competence. The film dares to push modern CGI animation as much as the Wachowskis pushed then-modern live action with Speed Racer. And that's both rare and a compliment.

A for effort, and strong B+ for execution. Might be the best Spider-Man film to date.

Lego movie 1 and 2 have done it already. Stop motion blended with cg.

Artistic style does not push CGI tech or animation. That's Pixar's dept. They're the crytek of animation movies. More so now than before given how their stories sort of lack the umph they had before.

CGI wise there's really nothing new in spider verse.

Let's agree to disagree.

And I haven't watched the Lego flicks.

It's been a sore subject for a while for me lol.
A lot of arguments were had recently where story and art style meant technical achievement and it only got worse after the Oscar win lol. So it not only raped my mother, but my sister and my father as well.

@consolitis in what aspect? It doesn't have anything we haven't seen before in CGI flicks. It's stylish as heck. It's pretty to look at. But tech wise... It's typical sony animation work.

When it comes to style over substance, both of us are guilty Waldo. We both liked Immortals more than it deserved, simply because the fight scenes were filmed spectacularly!

Why would I need to be talking about tech?

So if it was a traditional hand-drawn animated film that looked superb and I said "it pushes traditional hand-drawn animation", would you really say "meh.. they used their hands to draw it.. like everyone does.. It didn't push anything.. Call me when they start using THEIR FEET as well, to draw! Now THAT would be pushing! Everything else is just looking stylish and pretty, not 'pushing'." ?! Scratch Head

Captain Marvel - 5/10
First half was aweful mostly due to Cpt Marvel being a stuck up bitch. Second half was better due to the secondary characters.

Also in one scene she can rip a hole in a ship with her hand beam but in another she only knocks out people she fights with.
It's a nice film if you want to strenghten yourself in believe that nothing has changed since the 1990's in terms of female rights.

Of course she's a stuck up bitch, feminism tries it's best to make females look bad. Naturally out in the real world it's different, but holy fucking shit how unlikable they are in movies, which is why i don't like them as leading actors in this day and age. I haven't seen it yet, but i can imagine.

Aquaman - 6.5/10

Despite a rocky start with so many cringe inducing moments, it doesn't take too long before the film delivers an absolute barrage of spectacle once the action goes underwater. Not hard to see how it made $1B theatrically really. Great fun can be had if you are not looking for brain-engaging material.

Nice to see Wan preserving the taller aspect ratio of the IMAX release for home video (further modified for TVs). The vast majority of the film is in that ratio and only ~35 minutes are in 2.40:1.

Second best DCEU film, after Wonder Woman.

Aquaman (2018

6/10 for the first hour and a half

7.5+/10 for the last 40 min.

Bad costume (dat black dude's armor..Jeez..) & weapon design. cliches left and right..cheesy dialogues.. nice action and special effects (the underwater parts) especially the last 40 minutes.

The Mule - 7/10 Clint Eastwood still has decency as a film maker. Much better than Robert Redford's last movie imho.

Bumblebee - 6/10 Setting was great, actors were nice. Better than the previous Transformers (except the first one) but there were problems tonally, ie Bumblebee was always scared until the super sayian mode

What a shit movie. Childish tone, 90% simplistic teen drama drivel and a bunch of: "Hey kids, remember the 80's!" Also throwing around a song every 30 seconds to make sure you get reminded that it is the 80's. Gen 1 was only for the first two minutes and they had to come up with the most uninteresting bad guys ever. Also, plenty of dumb things happening because... you know, we're all braindead. :>

"Iz not explosions all the time" lol wut
Nah indeed, they went the other way of the extreme. Dull generic human drama. Equally as dumb as pewpewpew though.
