It was ok, not every episode has to be action-packed. This in not Discovery

I liked the second episode. Some action, some fun, some drama. I fully recommend watching it.

Even a meh episode is likely to beat the SJW crap Discovery has to offer. I'm going to hang myself if I have to watch another minute of their Klingon-Trump hybrids droning on in their slow ass language.

S02E04 was nearly pure TNG (with different actors of course). Almost no jokes at all and a typical Star Trek episode plot (not including Discovery which isn't discovering anything).
S02E04: 8/10 for me.

Yeah I liked it too. I tells you a lot that Star Trek fans like myself are excited to watch the 4th episode of the Orville and not terribly enthused about the season premiere of Discovery.

The season had an uninspired opening just like the first one, but now it's definitely gone back to its usual enjoyable self. I really like how the episodes are structured so differently from each other, from Bortus' hilarious gay porn addiction to the melancholic (yet charming) farewell, followed by a good old traditional space adventure. It may be flawed at times, but it's hands down my favourite supply of feelgood TV moments

I need to watch this latest episode, but otherwise I'm up to date with this show as well and I have to say, it's exactly what was missing from the tv shows scene: less serious, less bombastic sci-fi. I really like it, here's hoping it's going to be a long time until they inevitably run this one into the ground.

All caught up on S2 now.
E1
Kinda liked it myself. Felt ok to start things out slow and character focused, it was good to catch up on the old stuff. Isaac is still hanging around the kids, Ed and Kelly had some things still needed resolving, etc.
I bet the piss-joke was just there to get the toilet humor out of Seth's system.
E2
Well, the ridiculous pseudo-science of "porn addiction" aside, it was quite enjoyable.
Especially loved how it took a dump on the ST prime directive. No agonising over philosophy, no hand-wringing about 'what if'-s. They immediately jumped in to help a pre-warp civilisation. That was refreshing.
E3
That was a good sendoff. And unlike Tasha Yar, Alara is free to return whenever (I really hope she does, although the radio-silence around why she left made me think that maybe not everything was amicable).
The pacing could have been a tiny bit tighter tho. It was just starting to feel like the episode is going nowhere when it finally started to pick up some speed.
Hope they'll replace the temp security chief real soon, that joke is already old.
E4
I feel like they brought her back a bit too soon. Making this story into an end-season cliffhanger would have been better, and the betrayal would have been more impactful if we get to see the human side a bit more.
I just hope that they don't pull another Klingon with them and give a sci-fi warrior race some depth (didn't watch STD, the first episode was so uninspired that I couldn't be assed to even download the rest, so no idea how they were portrayed in the rest of the season).
Like, she could go back, start talking about peace after a change of heart, get executed for heresy or whatever, and inspire a civilian uprising with her martyrdom. They could make it so that you'd have to be a mindless zealot to join the military, but the civilians could be more open minded.
The problem with Klingons was that they were all about fighting. When your Klingon lawyer character says that arguing in court is like fighting a battle, you know your writing is shit. Hope the Krill get more fleshed out, because as of right now, they are even more one-dimensional than the Klingons.

EP5
The running gag about the birthday may have been overdone a bit, but I couldn't stop smiling as that "jee-golly, everyone cheerfully preparing for first contact" montage was playing, knowing full well that all of it will be nothing but trouble.
Spoiler: | Oh, also Kelly&Bortis capping some fools. |
Not sold on the new sec officer yet. Looks like an older version of the last one, but the sass...oh my god, I hope they tone down the sass a bit.

EP6
Eh, I guess it was just a matter of time. It was charming and funny at points, but nothing really we haven't seen before. I guess the twist on the concept is that it's supposed to be long term instead of the usual one night stand before the inevitable episode-ending-reset-button.

So far Series 2 hasn't been as good as Series 1, seems Series 2 is trying to be more serious with it's stories, I don't mind that, it does remind me of Star Trek though which is good.
I like bum.

S02e07 was predictable and boring though.
I hope for e08 to be better.

Actually trekkers like this much more than STD: while STD has the name, Orville has the soul of Star Trek (and I agree).
There are definitely things to fix and add, but you can actually tell where it gets its spirit from, while STD is completely lost in its SJW narrative.

Superficially, yes. I suppose its just nostalgia.

Also some of that, undeniably.
But it's a like based on contents: the Orville is trying to build a set of (most of the times) actual sci-fi stories, with a growing empathy characters.
There are dozens of stupid things, glitches, other missing things here and there, but you can tell Seth did his homework.
He got quite rid of the nonsensical-unrequired comedy gigs, and he's now blending better the characters features.
I don't think it'll ever feature a complete firm-serious-navy set of rules (as the ST series): as for now it looks like a "single topic lesson" serie, and it's enjoyable so far, also thanks to a complete lack of STD's contents and purposes (unless you're a SJW).
It's really good?
Don't think it'll ever be, unless it alters or sacrifices some of the original ideas that started it. I don't think they'll get to that, neither that I'd like that.
Still, STD can't match it, neither remotely.

It's decent enough. I feel like it seems better than it actually is because STD is such a complete and utter joke.

I don't understand, why would they shill for Disney but not Fox?
Obviously something is fishy here, just wondering what the conspiracy actually is.

Didn't most of the Season 1 critics only see the first 3 or 4 episodes? I remember back then the reviews all came out at about the same time. The show did have a bit of a rocky start so I would understand some of the less flattering reviews.

If it were so, probably because Disney doesn't mind throwing money around to get coverage.
Best not to upset Disney either I guess.
