Here (New Zealand) it goes like this (with rough ages)

Primary School
J1 (Age 5)
J2 (Age 6)
standard one (Age 7)
standard two (Age Cool
standard three (Age 9)
standard four (Age 10)

Intermediate (Althou alot of primary schools just cover this aswell)
form 1 (Age 11)
form 2 (Age 12)

College
form 3 (Age 13)
form 4 (Age 14)
form 5 (Age 15)
form 6 (Age 16)
form 7 (Optional) (Age 17)

So most people finish school when they are 17/18

Then u can go onto a billion other things

(University... Polytech... etc etc etc etc etc)

And School is free ... untill you get to uni/tech ... then u can get a interest free loan from the goverment ... and if your in a low income bracket you can get a free allowence for living costs etc per week while your studying (They income test your parents if your under a certain age)

And if your not in that bracket then u can still get the allowance.. however it just goes onto your student loan.

Also when you start a course you can get some "Course related costs" in which the goverment will give u however much you want (upto like $2000 to spend on suff you need.. eg computer.. books.. whatever)... mine just went on booze Razz

That is exactly why North American students are falling far behind the rest of the world and kids like SycoShaman can't spell if you put a gun to their head.

For Australia

Preschool (age 4-5)

PRIMARY SCHOOL
Prep
Grade 1
Grade 2
Grade 3
Grade 4
Grade 5
Grade 6

HIGH SCHOOL
Year 7
Year 8
Year 9
Year 10
Year 11
Year 12

Then You have the choice of going to university, tafe or some private course or just get a job.

To get into universitiy is usally dependent on how well you do in your VCE which is Year 11 and year 12.

And you have to pay to go to anything.

The goverment can fund your Uni with a system called HECS, The governement pays for your uni, and then when you earn over a certain amount you start to pay it back, HECS also accumulates interest Sad

You can also apply for a thing called AUSTUDY/YouthAllowance, if you or your parents earn less than a certain amount while you are studying the government gives you an income depending on certain factors, eg living away from home

in Scotland (England is different I believe)

Primary school
p1 : age 4/5
p2 : age 5/6
p3 : age 6/7
p4 : age 7/8
p5 : age 8/9
p6 : age 9/10
p7 : age 10/11

Secondary School
s1: age 11/12
s2: age 12/13
s3: age 13/14 : start standard grades (equivalent of GCSE's)
s4: age 14/15 : sit exams for 9 standard grades (can leave school at the end of this year)
s5: age 15/16 : sit 5 Highers (equivalent of first year of a levels/ AS level?.. I dunno, they didn't have AS levels in england when I was at school)
s6: age 16/17 : sit more/resit Highers or sit 3 Advanced highers (equivalent of A2/second year of alevels). When I was at school advanced highers were entirely pointless as you got into university based on your higher grades.

University: age 17/18, for 4 years. Unless you weren't so bright in which case you went to college instead and learnt to be a hairdresser or something Razz

It's free (unless you go to a posh school) at school, and then if you go to university in Scotland you have your tuition fees paid for you in return for a one-off payment of 2 grand when you graduate. You can also get up to £4500 per year student loan, or if you're parents are in a lower income bracket about half of the £4500 will be non repayable bursary.

I completed all that up to my third year of uni, at which point I dropped out, moved to england, and am now sitting a foundation year in art and design at college in order to get onto a graphic media communication degree here. From next academic year in England they charge 3 grand tuition fees per year, which get covered by a student loan so you pay them back once your earning, plus you get a student loan for living costs and some sort of bursary. Cos I've done it all before though I dont get the loan for tuition fees so I have to pay them with my loan for living costs and dont get a bursary. sucks! Sad

primary school
6 grades (6years -> 12 years)

High School / Secondary School
-> 6 grades (13-18 years) ASO(broad theoretical education)
-> 6 grades (13-18 years) TSO(Technical education)
-> 6 grades (13-18 years) BSO(practical education)

After BSO, you can start to work, no further education
After TSO, you can enter a Hoge School (bachelor education = 3 yrs)
after ASO, you can enter a Hoge School or University.

In University, you do 2 years to have a bachelor degree. Another 2 years to have a master. 3 years if you do an engineering master degree or pharmaceutics

So if you did ASO, you are free @ 22 after 4 years university or @ 23 if you do an engineering (civil, biological) master or pharma.

Well i have a degree, and i still cant spell worth a shit. Proves nothing. Very Happy

I havent checked recent stats but Canada used to have the highest percentage of people aged 18-30 enroled in post secondary 50% . Canada also used to (Still may) have one of the highest government funding to there students, about 15Gs a student. The US has the same enrolement figures as the UK. About 30% of people aged 18-30 were in post secondary education. -National Post.

The candian system looks exactly like the Aus system. 1-12.

Alot of bright people donot go to university i might add (I read some comments saying only slow people do trades etc). Just becasue someone goes to University doesnt make them any more bright than those who have. I know many very weathy people that didnt even finish highschool, and now own there own businesses. And are brighter than alot of PHDs.

If you're talking about barnehagen, then no.. it's not included in that list..
Normal "Barneskole" starts when you're 5-6 years old..
Barnehagen is from when you're 1-5 years old..
