So got the xf90. Doesn’t support Dolby Atmos.
Can buy a Dolby Atmos soundbar ( xf9000, z9f, sk10y )
Can i connect TV to soundbar somehow ( Hdmi/arc apparently doesnt support Dolby Atmos / DTS :X, only eARC which the soundbars got support for via firmware ( not sure how cause no hdmi 2.1) but the TVs can’t since no HDMI 2.1 yet )

How can i connect my TV to my soundbar to play Dolby Atmos content? (Netflix/usb stick)
Can the tv play dolby atmos content from USB sticks ( currently it cant play Atmos audio tracks so it skips to the next) once the soundbar is connected? Or will it be the same shit cause it simply can’t do it and it would need a bluray player that outputs Atmos sound directly to my soundbar while outputting images to my tv?

Can this shit be any more convoluted? Been trying to find an answer for the last 2 days. Might not be searching right but really...

Thanks in advance.

Edit : seems like Kodi can play TrueHD tracks from movies ( passthrough) whereas the tv player can’t. Still it’s breaking up ( crackle and pop ) while connected via bluetooth ( currently on my old soundbar which i had connected via bluetooth , will try cable later today. Even so, i’m guessing it would have the same issue playing the sounds if its not connected right , so my initial questions remain )

I have a 3 year old NUC running Kodi and connected to an amplituner and it supports Dolby Atmos.

eARC is definitely not needed for Atmos. Since your TV will be decoding and just sending sound to the soundbar, so it's one way.

About the TV, it supposedly can decode Atmos with the xf9000 soundbar so should be fine.

That's the thing, the TV can't decode ATMOS. It can do Dolby vision if that's what you looked at by mistake though.

From reading online i've noticed it might be able to "let" the soundbar do the decoding in which case hurray? by using the Auto1/2 setting from the home->sound->audio out setting. Then again it was only 1 post on the issue saying this so i might find out if its true or not only after buying the soundbar.

Sony support was completely useless, random guy named Daniel who had no clue about anything AT ALL. Just...

Worst case scenario might return the soundbar if it doesn't "work" and get another after i buy an OLED for the bedroom to replace the KS.

Sad

Guess i'll buy this in the weekend then and try it out. Hope i can see a sensible difference from my current soundbar.

Cheers

Well, as expected, atmos doesn't work with arc. Netflix has atmos but not true atmos (Dolby TRUEHD more likely the Dolby Digital Plus compressed Atmos version).

So had to pc->hdmi to my soundbar, then hdmi soundbar -> tv and using VLC now to play movies on my PC with atmos and HDR to my TV.

Had to set sound settings to Dolby Atmos for Home Theater in windows, and VLC audio passthrough to get it to work (as far as i can tell at least).
