The two films, Night Watch and Fateless have piqued my interest (I saw the trailer for Night Watch long ago when it first came out and thought it looked half decent) and are already available from their countries of origin, anyone seen them and care to comment?

The only one i saw was nightwatch. it's not bad, I expected more horror from the trailer but it's not bad. You can compare it to LOTR in a modern setting. Although i have noticed that people who loved LOTR didn't like NightWatch, and people who didn't like LOTR liked NightWatch.
It's a bit weird at first and i recommend being to open to foreign movies before watching it. If you only like american movies, then you probably won't like it, but seeing you show interest in this film, you probably like other foreign films.
The movie itself is a bit confusing at first and uses all the cliches you can get in a movie like that. (good VS evil, the chosen one, a hard decission,...). The special effects are decent, the actors too and some parts in the movie are a bit confusing (not going to say what because it could contain spoilers, but you'll get it when you'll see it)
I liked it and i can't wait for the sequels (it's also suposed to be a trilogy, part 2 was already released in Russia.
The books have only been translated to german and italian, but the english translation should also be available later this year.
I didn't know part 2 was already released in Russia and i'm going to see if i can grab it now somewhere

If you like russian movies you just have to check this out. Vozvrashcheniye also known as The Return. You won't regret it... Just don't check the trailer it will spoil the ending.

I hope they do... Cheez-It seen the movie i spoke of? The Return? It's a master piece, hard to belive that those two boys never been in a movie before The Return. It's a shame that one of them drowned soon after the movie was recorded.

i believe they are using the same actors, same director too... its pathetic.. would you have wanted to see return of the king in chinese just because newline ran out of cash and some chinese production company stepped in? hell no.
i hope the russian actors can speak english to begin with, because if not it'll be a disaster because of the laughable broken english they'd have to use... they will probably end up dubbing over their voices with american actors so that the yanks arent bothered by the accent... such a waste...

Heh... wow, that is weird b/c a DVD of Night Watch (the original russian version) fell into my lap a couple of days ago, along with a DVD of 9 Rota (Company Nine in English, an above excellent film about the Afghanistan war.) No English subs though, so you'd have to speak russian to see either ;P

Night watch is crap, don't waste your time on it.

1.) You should learn to read (people already posted they had watched/liked it)
2.) You should learn how to communicate (why don't you like it?)

well from the looks of things he probably doesn't like 'all that readin stuff...' that he has to do seeing as its a subtitled movie... plus he also probably doesn't like it because it isn't mainstream hollywood crap...

yeah, a small review for day watch would be cool, to make the waiting time for a dvd-with-subs-release shorter
