I got tired of DX2 becuase of the frequent loading but i really liked the atmosphere, cyperpunk is (still!) a really cool genre when done right.
I hate games with small areas and more loading than actual playing (HL2 is another of those games). But I just bought 2 Hitachi Deskstar SATA disks which i will use in RAID0 + 2GB RAM, so i will probably try DX2 once again (and HL2 too) to see if it's a more enjoyable experience.

Oh come on. Deus Ex 2 wasn't that bad. First one kicks the shit out of it though. First is definitely on my top 10 or even top 5 of all time.

Deus Ex1 was one of the best games ever to be made. Deserves to be in any top 5 or even zop 3 list. An sure enough surpasses all fps games released since then, including hl2. DX2 was destroyed due to eidos trying to makeit consolish. They even changed the looks of the game so looked more comic and less gritty, plus removing all the development complexity Deus Ex1 ever had. And stupid characters. The levels were too small compared to DX1, even the freedom you had to complete the game was actualy less in DX2 than in DX1 (unlike many editors said).
DX2 just simply sucked. Thats all. Especially to compared to thief3, the devs did a great job their, it looked good and the atmosphere was great and weird enough the maps and AI were a lot bigger than DX2 even though both games used the same routines. Thief 3 lived up to its predecessors.

never finished system shock, cant remember why, but i remember not liking the game much. It was creepy and fun for a short time but couldnt keep me interested back then.
It was kinda similar with deus ex. A decent game, with a good story, and a bit more freedom in gamestyle and story-flow. What i didnt like was, that it wasnt always hinted upon, which events would lead to the story alterations and that the game-play wasnt always good: It was pretty unbalanced and the game-flow wasnt good. For me the bastardization of fps and rpg also wasnt that huge of a thing, as both screamed to be combined anyways, so it didnt get me raving about it like many reviewers at the time. Definitly not a must-have game but at least it delivered a new take on two genres in combining them. So, i guess i have to disagree with you here, Jenni =)
What i also remember is, that it ran very sluggish, considering its not-that-great gfx (yeah, i m a spoiled gfx-whore, i know ), and that it needed some patches before it was running stable on my system. That usually also makes me evaluate games differently, but many seem to forget that.

System shock 1 and 2 can be found at
the-underdogs.org
Thats the home of shareware and freeware and abandonware games. The downloads are slow because its been crammed lately but system shock has a bittorent link so it wont be as slow.

Deus Ex is probably the best game I have ever played because of the story and gameplay. Deus Ex 2 was pure shit.
