In Origin, a chilling new original series directed by Paul W.S Anderson and from the producers of The Crown & Lost, we meet a group of troubled passengers as they wake up on a damaged spaceship abandoned in deep space. Each having left behind a dark past in search of a fresh start on a newly colonized planet, they’re desperate to survive at all costs. But as their terrifying situation spirals into paranoia, they come to realize that the greatest threat to their dream of starting over – and indeed their lives – might actually be within their midst…
The series is created and written by Mika Watkins and it will run for 10 episodes
The production values seem to be alright(ish) from the trailer but yeah, all the rest* definitely sounds like a giant interstellar red flag. Will probably still give it a shot because TV sci-fi is quite rare, even though the body is already safely prepared for the worst.
*that includes Paul W.S Anderson, I don't think I've ever enjoyed any of his movies besides Event Horizon from 21 years ago :'(
Seen two episodes so far... Pretty picture, even prettier redhead Katie , crappy acting and iffy writing. That said, some sci-fi is better than no sci-fi
it's not actually that bad, after all (I'm on 8th episode).
The only issues I can find are a general lack of original ideas or concepts (everything you see is copypastaed from several stuff like Aliens, Lost etc.) and some scarce acting skills here and there.
What I hate the most is the moment of the transactions between now and flashbacks: that looks really done by a 12 years old director.
I finished 7th episode and I like this show. Sure, there are some things that could've been done differently/better but it's got a certain quality that makes me ponder if I should give it 7 or 8 out of 10. The sci fi set is really well done (even though the corridors all look the same since they're reusing the same corridor+doors to make it seem like there's a lot more. All in all it's very slick and futuristic looking (with some slight anachronisms that doesn't really hurt it).
I have two episodes left to watch so I can't reach a final conclusion yet. It gets better with each episode in the beginning since it takes time to present the exposition and create some character depth (every episode seems to focus on one or two of the survivors with character flashbacks).
2 episodes in, and this feels like an MA rated CW show. Dialog is simple almost retarded. It seems Tom still only knows how to play Draco Malfoy. Hope it gets better though as the premise is pretty good.
I didn't think i could dislike this genre, this series proved me wrong. I hate all the actors apart from the blonde guy, he's a decent actor, it's also so generic and predictable that im falling asleep. I love the visuals of the flashbacks, and the ship is great too, not enough when you hate everyone in it + the often laughable dialogue doesn't help.
Love movies like Event Horizon and Pandorum, this seems nowhere near..
