My 4790k is unable to cope with this game and Steam's interpretation of Bluetooth support for a DS4 - holding the R1 and R2 buttons freeze the right stick's movements, probably due to polling lag... it's insane! Why not just get an xbox one wireless controller? Personally i find it much better than the ds4 having used both. Plus, wireless. Not sure the ds4 can be used wirelessly on pc.

It can fairly easily with both the official Sony wireless dongle or cheap $4 bluetooth dongles from Ebay. Some games require a 3rd party app like DS4Windows or Inputmapper, some games support the DS4 without an app and show the appropriate icons etc. Ubisoft for all their sins are the best devs around for supporting the DS4 IMO, no 3rd party apps needed and their UI shows the correct icons.

There's a item that helps with that but that seems oddly deep for a optional piece of gear to be nearly mandatory due to the video game protagonist and limited underwater breathing capabilities and probably sharks are involved too even if the breath timer was realistic to 3 minutes or so for a trained swimmer or diver.

Yeah, actually in my case I simply cannot use an xbox controller due to the position of the left stick, my hand simply cannot use that and the shoulder buttons at the same time, so it's more necessity than choice.

ReShade has a thing about locking the depth buffer, this game has multiple render threads via the D3D11 deferred contexts functionality.

This results in serious performance impacts if any shader uses said depth buffer.
(SSAO, depth of field, SMAA if set up with predication and the newest sharpening shaders which gives amazing results but even a lightweight shader like that causes performance problems if ReShade starts locking buffers.)

Hmm the game is not always consistent in choices and what you can do over what you are led to do or forced into doing depending on what quest you are on, predictably the main quests seem to be branching most but the side quests have some interesting stuff too.

Got a choice during one where I had to choose between two people or let both die but there was actually a third alternative too.
 Spoiler:

For other stuff though you get a bit forced into certain actions or it's mostly a illusion of choice.

Illusion of consequence is more of a thing though, many events don't have much of a effect overall once the quest is wrapped up though occasionally a RNG event might pop up showing some consequence but these are like the radiant quests in Skyrim and wrapped up in minutes.

A few less total side quests and more content and quality and Ubisoft would be on a good path here for a RPG Assassin's Creed system but I guess the idea is to have a lighter mechanic for this though they really could have cut a lot of these randomized filler quests. Smile
(~500 or so in total although about 50 is actual side quests though these vary heavily in quality too, most of the better stuff is tied closely to the main plot of course but there's nice little stories and events outside of it too if you find them what with the size of the game world being what it is.)

Well closing in on 80 hours and almost in chapter 5 for the overarching story, done with the island hopping and fast travel uncovering at least and most of the current available side quests are starting to thin out. (More tends to unlock in later chapters, especially those tied to some of the more important characters you meet.)

Next up, apparently Rome and Italy and probably a even bigger landmass as Assassin's Creed tries to be some epic journey but Ubisoft is starting to push how much they can pad out these regions.
(Most of the collectible "?" stuff is basically junk for selling or dismantling at this point too.)

Narrative and story wise Origins is definitively in the lead but the improved and fleshed out gameplay mechanics and additions are nice though I wonder what the next game will try to utilize from these two.

Hmm if it is rome I wonder if we'll meet chariot race master Julious Caesar again or if they'll move beyond a direct follow up from Origins to some other (Or earlier?) time period in the lengthy span that was the Roman empire. (Near the fall and divide would be interesting but we'll see.)

And history well the game series is mixing in all sorts of stuff now from fantasy to reality in even bigger amounts than the early Assassin's Creed games did so we'll see I suppose.

Remember the Persian immortals of AC Origins?

https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/859486012911745793/48956B0CA320D519BD81D4ECE021D5C3164ED27E/

And Odyssey.
https://i.imgur.com/pYusq7f.jpg

Then again AC 2 had you play with the pope's magic ball and ancient alien vault so. Razz

EDIT: Hmm at some point I have to replay the series I suppose..but that means going Jihad on the beggars and leppers of AC Origins in-between the three trials of mini-gaming before you can stab the fuck out of the actual target in true feather to the stab-wound just-die-already-and-stop-talking action drama that is Altair's story. Very Happy

I have no doubt it'll come but it might take a while depending on what Ubisoft has in there other than the anti-tamper checks and a few custom triggers. Smile

And yeah the visual variety is nice but what you do and how the areas are laid out and things that are going on isn't changing much, it's the usual showcase and static world where the player and only the player changes stuff.
(Oh Athens is under siege? You mean all this empty war junk spread around with no soldiers in sight at all?)

Some areas are a bit better, Dios and it's sister island is real good but it was also the E3 showcase so go figure. Razz

60+ hours and you'll start noticing similarities and flaws, the Ubi concept of bigger isn't always ideal when it's hard to flesh out and detail each area. (The amount of world mesh errors and clipping problems is also quite noticeable compared to Origins.) This is definitively one of those titles were focusing on the story might be better...but you need to do these 2 - 4 side quests or other stuff because forced level scaling means you'll be playing catch up forever.
(Also modified by difficulty by +1 or -1 level so easy would be 46 - 50 for every zone in the end and nightmare would be 50 - 50 for example.)

There's good improvements to be had but something like Unity with these would be better than BIG EFFING COUNTRY with the quests ranging all over the place but in-between you basically have hundreds of mostly samey "stations" where you pick up X items and kill X type of guards and maybe rescue a civilian or burn something.

Eh or how to say, it's a good visual showcase but similar to Wildlands or Far Cry 5 it's also fairly lackluster or feels empty once the initial awe has settled.
(Watch_Dogs 2 did alright I suppose for more recent games using a similar formula, not perfect but more alive or reactive though still having a lot of these collectibles and a really expansive area with some parts heavily under utilized.)

EDIT: Though I suppose Unity isn't the best comparison out of how filled with collectibles it was although at least the phone app tie-in was removed a few patches on.
(And it took a while for the contest to end letting players earn the highest rank weapons and armor.)

Yeah, it's the lack of gameplay stuff that hurts it.

There are nice little details like how some towns/cities have their temples built out of different materials, or have different designs that reflect the local culture, but the problem is that there's not really any gameplay involved with that so in the end it's a waste of a nicely detailed location.

The cities are basically empty and the buildings are essentially just obstacles you need to get through so you can get to your objective.

A more tightly knit story with events in each city would have been better. Like in order to get to this cultist, you first had to take down his network in the city via story missions that aren't "infiltrate leader house and kill leader".

I don't get the praise for the story because it's pretty shit. What happened with the story is they most likely had 3 teams that were doing each and who were just coordinating with how they could possibly make intersecting points without stepping on the other storyline's toes.

But man it's bad. They should have just merged all that into one unified story that had proper assassinations.

Sure give us the open world stuff, but once we're to go killing cultists, make it play more like Hitman.

Also the climbing from before Unity needs to come back. This whole 'press x' is boring and lame. Bring back climbing puzzles.

Well I personally use steam gift cards to fill the account I wish to buy the game from. Then through VPN I login to the store in the specific region. Lastly through family share I play the games on my main account...but I never login to my "other" account without VPN from the country I wish to buy from.

/Edit: Forgot to mention that ubi games can't be family shared through steam.

/Edit: Yea f*** that don't wanna get caught up in some crazy stuff...just refunded it since you cannot family share with uplay involved.

Ok, i played the game now a bit and i like it, the setting, characters and choices you can make are definetly appreciated including the ability tree. But what really bugs me is that if you want to get all the collectible shitz you have to buy the freaking Maps DLC for 10 bucks to see them ingame. By that huge amount i cant be arsed to use a walkthrough on the webs and just bought the shit -.-

I miss the times when you could buy that stuff from an ingame vendor or found it somewhere in a chest.

Since i got the game quite cheap i am not that pissed about the additional 10 bucks in general, but that is definetly a dick move for a franchise like that Mad

P.S: The worst is that you cant access the dlc maps when the fucking uplay store has issues which i have right now, totally worth it.

It's too fast and unrealistic, it feels like the weight of player and NPCs is 20kg.

Not sure if it's the dodging system or animations, but it doesn't feel right, which is why I will skip this too.

I tried to play Origins multiple times but got bored of it...

This was my biggest gripe in the game, too ice-skatey all the fucking time, it just felt so off while controlling Kassandra, not even in Origins it was this bad. I refunded it and will try again with the ISO demo when it's out, but as of now, it annoys me a ton Crying or Very sad Turned out to be a debakles for me.

The rest of the game seems very good though, but movement controls are just so important (for me at least). Never had this feeling before.

Assassins.Creed.Odyssey-CPY Surprised

The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.
