So I have long used crt tv's and monitors for my retro gaming (raspberry pi) but now I'm done with geometry issues and aged hardware parts. It's time to go flat.
What has now initially been of interest is the Philips 436m6vbpab. What has me worried now is the dirty window effect, which I belive is a darker area around the displays edges. I think this is visible in the pcmonitors.info review.
Other then that the monitor seems perfect in size (43 is physically max for me).
Will mostly continue to be used for retro gaming nes to psx. But also media consumption using nvidia shield. And while I have the shield why not test streaming my games from my pc.
Good choice or do anyone here have any other suggestions?

Prepared to be disappointed with shock.
-Almost no monitors are glossy. The dirt effect is just a grain from matte coating. It also diffuses the lgiht and makes the colors appeal more dull than on glossy monitor.
-Contrast is best on VA lcd's (3000:1) but they suffer from ghosting. IPS and Tn have 1000:1 poor contrast.
-only 240hz monitors or 144hz strobbed are as clear as crt in motion or close to it.
-VA have ghosting and gamma shift
-IPS have backlgiht bleeding and IPS glow
-TN have bad viewing angles and banding.
Your choice is just a 60hz MVA monitor. MVA have even higher contrast (up to 5000:1) than va or ips but they ghost and smear like a motherfucker. Worst of all lcd tech. No overdrive can save these. Prepare to see trails after moving objects and shimmering on fine detail in motion. It will be nightmare coming from crt lol.
4k is real but can also be considered a problem. All 1080p content will be stretched to 4k and not displayed properly. There is no integer scaling with AMD or Nvidia gpus. nor does any monitors offer it. All non 4k content will be much blurrier. 1080p locked games will look like shit. Especially pixelart indie games. That's a big problem with 4k no one is talking about. only 4k content looks as it should. 1080p or other resolutions have bilinear scaling applied and blur.
Besides, at 43" the dpi of 4k is the same as 23" 1080p monitor.
HDR is fake. The panel is not 10 bit, there are no local dimming zones, the whole brightness of panel just goes up and down. So white gets brighter but darks too. It's just a marketing shit HDR.
edit: Sorry, not trying to be negative or burst Your bubble but lcd tech fucking sucks and it's a compromise. You need to choose what is Your priority (Image quality, motion quality and so on) and then search.

I think KC is a little too demanding for some reason. My telly's IPS and the issues mentioned aren't as prominent as it sounds.
I love my Panasonic TX47-AS750E. The picture is very crisp and the colors are great. I haven't noticed any issues with contrast except I'd like to see deeper blacks but that's basically it. Ghosting isn't actually noticeable on this panel.
It's perfect for gaming imo due to the absence of any serious or even noticeable ghosting (you'd have to run testufo to see a tiny amount of ghosting).
It's 2-3 years old now but sweet as ever. The surface is actually semi-glossy with no matte coating which is one of the main reasons I chose it. (It was expensive for me though, €800 new).

I know this site and I do not trust them. The guy don't like Nec or Eizo monitors and always recommends AOC. he gets very cherry picked samples and the units I got were nowhere near close to his measurements.
But from the review, the monitors seems awesome. Like something that I would want to get aside from ghosting and typical va issues.
I mean i would never buy a monitor this huge and without rotating stand but if You want it, it looks like a real solid choice.
edit:subpixel layout seems really weird but should not be a deal breaker from far away
edit2: The more I look at it, the better it looks but using it as a desk monitor would be a mistake. From far away? maybe? The ghosting and shimmering will be less visible and importantly, from far away the gamma shift will not be apparent. Normally, va screens up close are brighter on the edges

Currently moving towards a TV instead. Still 43"
Looking at the Philips 43PUS7303. Glossy and va. Hard to find anything better at 43"
But also considering Samsung 43NU7475

My 43" tv will be for use with nvidia shield tv for emulator gaming and movie watching.

Thinking about using a 32 inch monitor instead of a TV. Looking at the Samsung u32h850.
Ideally a 40 inch monitor would be grate. Maybe ces will show somthing 16:9 non-curved monitor.
