Just started chapter 7, it's been decent so far, but not particularly scary or tense.

"I think Call of Duty resonates because it's believable and relatable," Sledgehammer Games cofounder Michael Condrey says.

Believable and relatable...Yep, sounds like Call of Duty

Scratch Head define, scary....

i guess the question is, does the game capture the scarynes and unknown horrors of the lovecraft universe?
Lovecraftian Horror is a special kind of horror...the unknown horror, the one you cant see or touch but you know theres something there, but you cant grasp it....... something along those lines Troll Dad

I still at the beginning, im too scared to start the game for real..

*goesOfwatchesTheRestOfDaredevil* Very Happy

Ha, it's time to bump up the gamma and face your demons!

(My personal pick as the top pants-soiling game has to be Alien Isolation on Hard, it was like the baptism with fire and the holy beeping Xeno spirit. Such a magnificent yet ridiculously stressful experience <3 Laughing)

Will grab Cthulhu's demo tomorrow, let's hope for the best since Cyanyde's games tend to be very hit and miss mechanics-wise. Razz

Fuck that cheating ass game so hard - always knowing precisely where you are even when it trys to make you think it doesn't. I'm convinced that my admittedly short foray into that title took at least half a decade off my heart's health. Evil or Very Mad

Yeah, I stopped playing that after a dozen tries to pass through some corridor. The thing would always hang around ready to strike when I'm passing through.

There is a mod which removes this imposed link on the AI where it always needs to hang around you so it basically roams through the whole level making it more realistic I guess. Didn't try it yet, but sounds interesting.

Alien Isolation was scary as hell for the first 4-5 levels, but then you realise how it likes to cheat and guess what, you can abuse that Very Happy I've played with that motherfucker later on, made him dance on fire and so on Very Happy

Its a shame, because if it weren't for cheating AI's (yes, two of them controlled the alien) the game would be more or less perfect.

The story was also rather bland, IMHO. But, I bought it as the developers really did their homework on recreating the atmosphere from the first Alien movie.

I agree, main fault of the game is that you dont get the feeling of pressure that should come with hpl. It¨s not scary at all.

Lovecraft's work is not always scary.

I just finished the game and I was pleasantly surprised by how the story unfolded. The narrative is very solid in the beginning and at the end, the mid part however is rather weak. Despite some obvious problems, I think Cyanide delivered. They managed to capture the feeling and weird storytelling of Lovecraft's work. The last few chapters in particular do a perfect job at describing that struggle of distinguishing reality from illusion that paves the road to madness. Sadly, the game doesn't do the game any favors and the tech is quite outdated. The game is not worth full price, but it's definitely something to watch, especially for those who read some of Lovecraft's stories.

Only flaw for me in the writing was the pivotal part of the player. The protagonist should not be a main player, only an observer that will in the end affect the outcome.

I haven't been by here in a long while so am somewhat unsure of current humpetticate, sry if I say something which breaches that but a peremptory glance at usenet indexers shows a range of different sizes for the same brand (codex) of Yarr release from about 11.5 gigs to >30gigs. Does anyone know what it should weigh in at?

There's nothing AAA about this game. Production values are lower than AAA games of last gen, let alone the current one.

As for the game, feels like I'm playing a "hidden object" simulator, but I like the writing and atmosphere, and sometimes the scenery is very well done and manages to overcome the otherwise dated graphics, so I'm enjoying myself. Smile

I uninstalled this.. it's definitely a step down from Vampyr, which I just played.
What broke it for me was the skill system. It works as a dice roll, so entirely random and luck based. Even when you have 4/5 in a skill, you can still fail the skill check, and when that happens, the path will be blocked forever as the game immediately autosaves. So you can't retry lockpicking a door after increasing the skill, you have to restart the fucking game. Rolling Eyes
But it's a dice roll, so even replayability is pretty much based on fucking luck. Fuck that.

There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.
