1) Use a loader to emulate a machine to Starforce and supply the appropriate information to the Starforce routines at runtime.
2) Use inline patching to edit the Starforce protections so that the protection believes that the correct CD is in the drive.
3) Completely unwrap the protected files and rebuild them without Starforce.

There's 3 ways to get Starforce games working, course they do require a fair bit of programming / reversing skill Smile

how do you check what version of ssh a game uses?

also, by <3.5 do you mean games using 3.5 and below? or just games below 3.5?

<3.5 means all games below StarF*rce 3.5 (3.5 not included)

You can check StarF*rce version by checking the exe or protect.dll with A-Ray Scanner.

This is my personal StarF*rce bypassing system at the moment:

1) DVD-ROM connected via USB, so I can launch SF Clones
2) DVD-Burner and backup HD (on secondary IDE channel) deactivated through a simple on-off switch (so I can reactivate them whenever I need them)
3) Image mounted on DT4

Just curious...
If you have a IDE DVD-ROM and an IDE CD-ROM would you have to disconnect both when playing DVD clones. I imagine that if you only disconnect the DVD-ROM then starforce would say insert disc into another drive but it should realise there is no way you are going to run a DVD game in a CD-ROM only drive.
There might be some legitimate customers out there with a config like this
IDE CD-ROM
SCSI DVD-ROM
Does that mean even an original copy of a starforce protected game will not run on that pc unless the CD-ROM is disconnected?

What I do is just open my cabinet and disconnect the ide cables and mount the image in dt4 and Voila! The game works like a charm!

1 and 2 are still amazing.

nope the protection will tell you to just put the dvd disc into the IDE dvdrom the original game will only run from the IDE dvdrom not the scsi drive!

StarForceNightmare isnt 100% reliable imo. I find the "hardware-disconnection" method much more easier and stable.

Stupid question but what is the "DisableNode" function all about really?

The IDE drive would only be a CD-ROM though. So does starforce differentiate between a CD-ROM and a DVD-ROM? Because the IDE CD-ROM cannot read DVDs.

dunno if SF will detect the difference from cdrom /dvdrom then it will need to check by device manager if CD or DVD line is pressent dunno if it does that! just try it.

Starforce is actually able to tell the difference between CD-ROMs and DVD-ROMs. I wasn't able to test it until today. I have an IDE CD-RW and an IDE DVD-RW.
I have the DVD version of Prince of Persia TTT and I only have to unplug my DVD-RW.
So for anyone that has a system with no DVD capable optical drives then you won't have to unplug anything as long as you get the DVD version of the game.

All starforce games work perfectly for me, mount with DT4 and play. Actually new SD7 (comes with FEAR 1.2 patch) is even more irritating than starforce, coz it even detects scsi drives, but again its very easy to turn off my burner Smile
/me loves his standalone scsi dvd burner

I used an ATA controller with Silicon image chipset.
I don'T even have to disable it, it works just fine directly, even with new Starforce releases (UFO Aftershock).

So my advice is:
- get an extra IDE controller that is compatible with ATAPI drives
- plug all your optical drives in there
- launch the image via daemon tools v4

The best thing is: you don't need to disable anything! You ONLY need daemon tools v4, that's it. No channel disabling, no cable disconnecting.

I recommend an ATA133 raid controller using SI0680A because it will still have some potential use if there's another method around Starforce. Plus those babys are just 20€ shipped.
Here's a list of eBay auctions for those cards:
US http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8723150538
DE http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8721713305
UK http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6822575483

They are cheap everywhere and it really is the best solution I've seen so far.

i got exactly that controller... i bought the controller yesterday and tried to play chaos theory today, i get the cd- key error.
disabled the controller on the device manager, still no go
i used the same cd key that i used when i gutted up my pc (and it worked back then)
i still feel that i m doing somthing wrong.
switched keys like crazy , uninstalled and then installed disable the controller again and again....nothing - Crap
need some hellp here
thanx
