Gris is a narrative platformer from Nomada Studio, published by Devolver Digital, and comes to PC and Switch in December 2018. When a girl loses her voice she sets off on a quest to heal her darkening world (thus ‘gris’ - Spanish for grey). Really it’s just an excuse to jump and swoop through stunning 2D environments, bringing to mind the world of Journey and Super Mario Galaxy (check out those floating water pools!) but drawn in an inky style.
someone really loved Hornet's design from Hk to steal it - ok, whatever
but where is the fun in gameplay? There isnt anything particularly special in visual style and gameplay is pretty monotonous - where is the fun, the hook?
To me it just pretentious. There are games that try to be "an art" (Child of Light, Ori) and there are shallow overboard attempts like this.
Well if this is not art then i don't know what is, it's artistic and it evokes, it's like an interactive painting.
The art is the point but yeah if that doesn't sound like your cup of tea, stay away.
i think its a little too long and has some pacing issues but when it hits with that music and art stuff it is one of the most beautiful things in video games
still i think journey is the best of this type of games, havent played it since a while and will play again on pc release, hope it still stands up
I couldn't resist and devoured it as well in a single sitting, what an enchanting ride. The platforming and exploration are (as expected) minimalistic and often automatized, but every single area is unique and designed like a blissful geometrical canvas surrounded by an ethereal atmosphere.
It's more of an audio/visual experience than anything else, worth trying for the memorable presentation and environmental storytelling.
