John Woo is in preproduction on a remake of his 1989 film "The Killer". This time, it's a Hollywood production starring Lupita Nyong'o.

A Hollywood remake has been in development since at least 1992.

Granted, I didn't google her, because I'm familiar with her from Black Panther, and I can't say I noticed anything "wrong" with her face in it. I guess it's not noticeable with Hollywood magic.

His western movies havent been that good though. Cheesy constrained action.
But if hes going back to his roots as simple action flicks are making a comeback then count me in.

The problem (as always) in these cases for me is with the extra-loose idea of remake that most directors/producers have, if they just said "hey folks, we're making a new movie with actress/actor X" I would approach the whole thing with a different mindset.
An original work (or at least inspired by) would feel different than a shoehorned "itsa remake of *insert beloved classic*" marketing tool thing-y that skews the original concept in order to meet imaginary quotas and ends looking like a participation award. What they do feels awkwardly out of the place no matter the efforts, it's as if they remade Pulp Fiction with Giulia and Vincenzo from Naples or a new Braveheart with a Brazilian Guilherme Wallacinho.

Woo said that they don’t necessarily need to cast an action star in the film because his specialty is to make any actor “look like an action star.” He smiled, “I have that gift.” |
He also clarified he is not involved with the Face/Off reboot.
