lol wtf,

So i installed malware because of this and now it made a shortcut on my desktop which i can't delete because i don't have any rights over it. Tried giving myself rights but even this isn't allowed.

Anyone else?

Have you tried to launch Command Prompt with administrator privileges and then delete with it?

At a guess it's a dodgy keygen from a unknown source and he didn't verify MD5 or such before running it.
(Adware I assume, lots of auto installing promos and all that shit that seemingly takes forever to clean out although if it's actual malware it could be even worse.)

How did this happen?

Just a normal install of malware bytes. It made a shortcut to the malware bytes executable on my desktop. Its on windows 10 though.

@Jbeckman im pretty sure the source i got it from is clean.

Are you dual booting? If you are, still get permission problems on your other OS? Tried any apps to set permissions?

I just fucking found it. So it seems that Malwarebytes has a option in the settings called "Self Protection", after disabling this i was allowed to remove the fucking shortcut. Geez.

still dont see the need of having a pro version of this, free is fine for a usual scan every few months and thats it

+1

MBAM is one of the best (if not the best) for on-demand scanning but for realtime protection there's better products (Avast for example). But I never use realtime as I consider myself to be the best realtime protection for my OS Very Happy

Yeah, realtime protection is for idiots/noobs. The best solution for power users is to use on-demand free scanners like MBAM and HitmanPro when running something new and of course scans every few days.

Also, you can have a renamed copy of RKill somewhere if the shit hits the fan hard.

It's also a good idea to use a replacement task manager, like System Explorer, set to "Always On Top". Has an Autoruns tab as well, that's enough to get rid of 90% of infections.

Why bother running scans every few days when using something in realtime will catch anything downloaded instantly. It just sounds like too much hassle to run scans all the time, I never bother scanning, I can't even remember the last time I did a manual scan. It's not like we have old hardware where we need to save on resources, the power is there to be used.

Edit: And then when you do run a scan on a drive you will have slow downs when accessing other data on it... Why would you do that?

I don't even run on demand scans. I only scan selected downloaded files that could be potentially risky. Last time I catched malware on my computer was like 11 years ago (and that was just me being silly)? Maybe more.

This stopped working? All the serials I would hypothetically insert get rejected immediately, not blacklisted. So I can't hypothetically speaking claim a lifetime license.

BUMP!

Doesn't this thing ever update itself? The program I mean, not the virus database. It says 3.2.2, I don't remember the last time it updated itself. Hmm?

I manually installed the new version over the existing one, it kept my lifetime license. I don't understand why it stopped self-updating the program.
