I don't have it yet but from what I read the jig is needed to exploit the Switch - you need to do it every time you boot up the Switch combined with start + volume button held. Then it accesses the dongle and goes to the SX OS from what I saw on Youtube. You can use SX OS to activate a "no-jig" mode so you don't need the jig but that means you can't access the non-SX OS menus from what I read.

Not really, there is the AutoRCM mode, if you activate then you dont need to use the jig anymore, only connect to the dongle or cellphone/pc after a full reboot.
I used my paperclip only once and never since.
So for me basically after a full reboot i just connect the switch to my phone via usb cable for a second and it autoloads the payload and boots the system.

But what about the issues people report about that? Batterydrain for example.

There is no battery drain difference in normal use, whether you are using it or put it to sleep.
The thing is, with AutoRCM activated you always need to hook up the switch to your phone or dongle when doing a full reboot, since it doesnt load the OFW automatically anymore (until of course you deactivate AutoRCM again).
If you let the battery drop completely to 0, then you have to shut down the Switch completely by holding down the power button for 15 secs and then leave it to charge for an hour or so, after that you can boot again.

I think it was something about it not really going into sleep mode with autorcm on it, so that's why it looked like battery drain.

Nah, it just doesnt charge in RCM, which the console is in if the battery is completely empty, that's why you have to fully shut down by pressing power for 15 seconds, so it charges again.
To be clear, RCM is the mode the console is in during the initial first seconds until it boots up the system, after that everything works normally and there is no difference in battery drain.
People initially panicked since they didnt fully shut down the console after emptying the battery, thinking they bricked it, while all they had to do was a full shutdown.

Ok, then i don't understand it. So when you charge it and start playing, you just wait until it drains itself and rinse and repeat the process?

No, you simply play normally as you always would, put into sleep mode and charge it, continue playing etc.
The only thing you have to remember is that if for some reason you let the battery drop down all the way to 0, you have to do the 15 sec shutdown and then let it charge for an hour, after that everything as usual.
As I said, the reason is simply that in recovery mode the switch doesn't charge the battery, and if you use AutoRCM, then the switch always tries to boot in recovery mode automatically, hence it's stuck in a state where it has too little battery to fully boot, but can't charge.
The switch charges once its booted up completely or when its completely shut down.

It's not an issue at all, I never let my Switch drop to 0 anyway, except for the one time I wanted to try this out, and even then it wasn't a hassle or anything.

I saw a few posts about Nintendo using full system bans on Switches that are found to go online with pirated games. You can't update, access eshop or download even bought games anymore when they ban you.

That's what can happen if you use Freeshop from your Switch nowadays or CDNSP with your own certificate.
Best thing to do is download from CDNSP with the provided certs, transfer onto SD card and only use online functions for game updates or firmware updates and nothing else.
Either way in the end all that happens with a full ban is that you don't have the comfort of automatic game updates on the Switch anymore, so you have to get those from CDNSP and the firmware updates from a new .xci game.

One thing - how are you all transferring games to the card on the Switch? At the moment I have to keep taking it out and doing it via my phone :/ Is there anyway to access it without having to remove it? |
There is an homebrew FTP server you can use but it's slow. I only recommend it for smaller files.
For large files I use a sd-card adapter that came with the micro sd and use a usb 3.0 card reader. Transfer speeds are usually around 50-80mb/sec.

I just take out the SD card and connect it to my PC directly, it's faster and it's not like I have to copy a new game to it every single day once I've filled it up.
Just shut down switch, put SD card into PC and transfer, put it back into the switch and plug into phone for auto payload, done. I am also a bit hesitant about memloader so I will stick to the standard method.
The most comfortable one was using FreeshopNX and just downloading the games straight to your switch from Nintendo servers, but as that is using your own certificate, it's easy to get a full ban.

Interinactive wrote: | A couple more nub questions
Some games seem to work but then freeze. Then when I reset the device it says the data is corrupt for those games. Is this common? So far it was Lego City Undercover and Splatoon 2.
Some games also tell me that there's an update available, despite the fact I'm offline and it has no way of checking. What's this about?
FWIW all games are .nsp |
I'm going to take a guess about the freezing: what kind of MicroSD card are you using? I remember reading not all brands/types are well supported. A good fast SD card is very recommended - U3 ideally. Also, ideally the card has to be formatted by the Switch first. And of course it's always possible that the file you downloaded is corrupt .... .
As for the update: the Switch itself knows this. The Switch OS knows the latest version of games you play even when offline and pretty much prods you to go online to update. Makes sense since otherwise people wouldn't know online updates exist. I think it's tied to the software update (5.1.0 currently).
I wonder if it will be possible to download files on PC straight from Nintendo and transfer them to SD cards the way the Wii U did this with USB Helper. Since I don't plan on playing pirated games online games (I ordered a USB to ethernet adapter so it's easy to plug in and out - wifi will be disabled) this would be ideal. Nintendo really shot themselves in the foot by charging money to play online since this makes pirates not feel like they miss out on anything.

That's been possible for over a month now, it's called CDNSP and is the best way of getting all the stuff including updates and dlc.

Ah so that's what CDNSP is - I heard about bans but I assume it's the certificate used in CDNSP to connect to the servers that got banned. Certs are taken from true Switches I assume. If Nintendo weekly ban certs it will quickly make CDNSP useless though.

CDNSP is provided with fresh certs regularily, the certs don't get banned that fast, for now it's still working.
EDIT: that SD card is actually good, I doubt that's the reason for the corrupted stuff, let the switch format it directly if it wasn't already done that way. Otherwise try CDNSP, haven't had any corrupted stuff personally.
EDIT2: Sometimes filenames being too long and having certain characters can be the reason for the NSPs not being able to install correctly.
Rename the files and use the SX OS 1.4 in-built installer.

Same one I use but 200GB version. I got a 64GB U3 which I'll use for games where the extra speed is needed.

Never had any freeze. I suggest not to use FTPD though because it corrupted my SD CARD and I had to reformat it, even after redownloading all games, it corrupted the way the Switch downloads to it.
Also, it knows what games have updates even offline because you went online at some point, and the Switch downloaded the latest hac_list file, that says which game can be updated or not.
This file is regularly updated when you go online.

Anyone had any dealings with https://modmyswitch.co.uk ? I've ordered an SX Pro from them last week and had confirmation but it's on back order. I've tried to contact them via the website, phone and their PayPal email address to see how long it's going to be but so far they haven't responded.
They are listed on the TX website as authorised resellers but I've got a niggly feeling about them now
