Can't quite believe that they actually seem to care about delivering a quality port. Is it one of the absolute best series of all time? Yes, definitely! But still really only expected and okay-ish port with maybe some issues.
Looking forward to release so I can (almost) 100% it again.
Now, I'm just waiting for a PC re-release announcement of 3, 4 and 5 (I'm currently assuming Kiwami 2 and 6 are pretty much guaranteed... maybe depending on sales of this I guess).
Might be harder for the Dragon Engine games, I am however looking forward to HD Yakuza 5.
As for the PC port, it's mostly solid. There's plenty of scope to tweak graphics options, with 4K resolution support, supersampling and a handful of more granular options. And while a gamepad is recommended, I found keyboard and mouse an acceptable alternative – although I did miss analogue 360 degree movement during fights. Both keyboard and gamepad are remappable, too, although the default keyboard bindings seem pretty sensible.
Performance wise, I've tested on both a GTX 1070 using a 165Hz, 1440p monitor, and on an R9 Fury X using a 3440x1440 ultrawide monitor. Both ran well, maintaining well over 60fps on the highest graphic settings. Weirdly, I did experience some light stutter on my GTX 1070 machine, but only when playing in borderless windowed mode, and only when using keyboard and mouse. Otherwise, it's been perfectly smooth. Perhaps the most notable issue is how Yakuza 0 scales to higher resolutions. There's some notable aliasing on the subtitles of cutscenes and on the map. It's not a major fault, but it's not ideal when you're meant to be paying attention to the content of the subtitles, not the presentation.
What was the general consensus of that video (for those of us that don't sprechen Deutsch) ?

His rig:
*Cpu is 5 years old(not mentioned which one specifically),
Nvidia 750ti on Ultrawide Monitor with 144mhz (afaik a 750 ti is a little weaker than a 1050(not 1050ti))
Settings:
Ultra settings on 2560x1080
Performance:
Framerate alternated between 60-144+ fps
According to the reviewer:
*The Pc version is based on the PS4 version (not the Ps3)
*Resolution and FPs are uncapped
*Ultrawidescreen with 144mhz does work but it does zoom in a little to achieve that so parts of the screen get "cut out"(no letterboxes if you dont want any) but he says it wasn't noticeable for him
*You cant disable Depth of field or Motion Blur in the options
*Most of the cutscenes are rendered in real time just a few cutscenes are fmv
*The HUD and captions are a little rough for his taste but he isn't sure if his "high resolution" is the cause of him noticing(maybe not noticable with 1080p?)
*mouse and keyboard is supported(he didnt feel comofrtable playing with m+k) but he prefers gamepad (he used an xbox 360 pad)Button prompts were the ones for xbox
He says that Yakuza Kiwami, 3,4 and 5 will get released on pc but 2 might be released later.
All in all he liked the port.

makes sense, Kiwami already has steampage and ports of 3-5 are in pipeline for coming years for PS4right now,
6 just released on PS4 - so that might take a while same as Kiwami 2 which is releasing soon on PS4

Ah so some of the text elements are textured so that's why the reviews pointed those out as a negative then.
Overall it looks like a solid port.
EDIT: Should replay Sleeping Dogs whenever I have the time and mood for it.
Though this series looks like it should be really fun from what I've seen so far.
Spoiler:
Which is various gifs and such of a certain NPC and some story events...
EDIT: And at 8x SSAA or 4x4 you'd be using 3840x2160 -> 15360x8640 so that's pretty impressive too.
(4x should be 7680x4320)
EDIT: Or am I counting that wrong and it's ~8K at 8x? I'll have to check.
(Difference between supersampling and downsampling.)
Well it still takes care of most aliasing and it keeps some performance although the game is probably well optimized, Sega seems to be one of those developers that have really learned and improved with their PC ports even adding in 21:9 support and other more "exotic" features you don't see implemented as commonly.
There's really no excuse for a 3D game to not have true horizontal+ 21:9 support.
Vertical - is kind of a joke.
Sorry, but 21:9 monitor owners are dumb. All you do is get fucked. None of these clowns are ever going to support niche shit properly. They can barely support NORMAL hardware.

It's pretty good as a 2nd monitor for me for playing games that do support it, but mostly for development and scrolling through tables that have way too many columns.
Reviews and the current trend of Twitch and Youtube streaming if you have a large enough subscription amount though many can also be directly affiliated with a publisher for early access though these tend to be a little bit biased.
(Yeah, a bit. That's putting it pretty mildly I suppose.)
For some countries there's probably also less presence either on PC or console or both making it easier to be picked unlike say the USA which probably has tons of wannabe streamers and a few who actually made it and are making quite a bit of revenue from ad money and sponsorship.
Bubble kinda burst so it's probably harder now with Youtube and Twitch having more regulations and stricter moderation on acceptable behavior and content plus actually making a decent enough income to live off of this sort of business.
Which isn't as easy as it sounds like, video game streaming is a near 24 hour job and if you take a break for even a short time expect people to unsubscribe and be pretty mean about how you're not doing good enough plus of course you have to be really talented and the same probably also extends to reviewing of hardware and software.
Mix in the political and gender situation and other issues and it's a bit of a mess really but it's unlikely to go away though it will probably change a bit over the next few years as a result.
Early game access sounds nice I suppose but it's different when you're doing reviews, interviews, exclusive coverage and such and some publishers can be pretty tough to deal with and blacklisting can end the business really quickly with how petty a few of them can be or just overly sensitive in general.
EDIT: Well there's positive sides too of course although it is a full time job and not just playing games early. Reviewing is not as easy as it sounds like when it's your job.
(Indie is probably a bit more relaxed rather than being affiliated and having to do whatever the boss wants for the article and their views and alignment for political and such issues.)
OMG what happened to me, I 've just pre-hurrdurred this
But to be completely fair the port reports are looking solid so it shouldn't hurt to save 10% and it's cheap any way, so yeah can't wait Aug 1st bring on the jap craziness
I've been curious about the series over the years, but i don't know.. It looks so all over the place and most of all, terribly tasteless.. It's like ice cream with ketchup, at first "oh ice cream, i want!" then you start to inspect it "what the hell is this, no thanks.."

I mean the game is dirt cheap even if you don't buy from 3rd world steam.
I guess everyone knows this by now but voidu.com still has the game 20% with the code: SCHOOLSOUT till the 31 (works for anything else as well ofc) making it €11,94/$13.39, which is still a steal for this game.

It's a great series and 0 is up there with 5 as the best game in the series.
