I'd say that's time enough to slow down the Benny Hill-esque battles, as well as get rid of the awful blobfest -- but it certainly won't happen.
I don't care if the campaign is good; if the battles are shite, then the whole game's shite. If I wanted to play a proper grand strategy game, I'd play EU instead of TW.
Forgive me, but I'm going to ask anyway - what's the significance of that protection? Has it eclipsed the prior king, or is it the opposite (given that a release isn't out yet, I'm going to guess the former)?
Edit - Never mind. Redshift answered my question.

With the first big balancing patch now out there and serving up a bit more challenge to players (along with a number of other improvements), the team has begun working on something new for Thrones of Britannia.
Those who have been craving a little more gore as they raid, pillage and, conquer will be pleased to hear that a Blood Pack is currently in development. It will be similar in scope to the Blood & Burning pack for Attila, sharing some of its effects, along with new content created just for Thrones.
It’s going to be ready this summer (most likely July) and we’re planning to make it available for free to players that already own Blood & Burning for Attila. We’ll release more details on it closer to the time, along with a more general update on future plans for the game.
Thrones of Britannia: Allegiance Update Beta July 17 2018 by Ella McConnell
This update will introduce a variety of changes to the game to address player feedback and improve the overall experience. The biggest change – and the one the update is named after – is the addition of Allegiance to the game.
We saw a number of players really missed the Religion mechanic from ATTILA and the Culture mechanic of ROME II, so we’ve introduced Allegiance to fulfil that role while being more in keeping with the time period for Thrones and the design of the game overall. Adding this feature will also tie in to several others that were identified as areas for improvement, mostly politics and how provinces work.
We’ve also made changes to the building trees – resulting in a lot more variety and choice – plus worked on Politics, Estates, Balance, and bug fixes.
What the Teams are Working On July 2018 July 17 2018 Saga Team – Thrones of Britannia
Since last month’s blog, we took another look at the roadmap and shifted our priorities a little. Off the back of a really positive reaction to the first balance update, we decided to apply more focus towards a new update to the game, and to getting more improvements into the hands of our players as quickly as possible.
This next update will introduce a number of substantial changes to the game incorporating a bunch of player feedback. Players can look forward to more depth and granularity in the Politics system and within building trees, improved battle AI, and an important new mechanic called Allegiance. This mechanic is loosely based on Religion from ATTILA and the Culture mechanic of ROME II but designed to better reflect events of the Thrones time period and complement the design of the game overall. It ties in to several areas, mostly politics and how provinces work, removing some frustrations and adding some new challenges to expanding your kingdom.
The first version of the Allegiance Update is available to try now as an opt-in beta. Click here for patch notes and instructions on how to download it. The update will stay in beta for a while, with at least one more wave of changes to be introduced over time so we can ensure it is well balanced and polished before the full automatic push to all players. It’s looking like this will come at the end of August, with the release of the Blood Pack.
And finally, we know modders are keen to get their hands on the Assembly Kit for Thrones. It’s nearing completion now, and should be ready for release in the next week or two.
What? You didn't enjoy the retarded game of tag you had to play with enemy forces seizing minor settlements?
That was fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun
To be fair - that's something I've experienced in ALL recent Total War games, not just this entry - and it's absolutely infuriating.

Got a "the game malfunctioned" error today. So i googled it, and there was a DMCA take-down issued to block websites referring to the game. I guess I should have blocked it in my firewall.
Edit: It was working and stopped today. The proposed solution of moving the folder didn't work.
The Thrones of Britannia Allegiance Update goes live on 29th August at 15:00 BST along with Blood, Sweat and Spears.

Now available for A Total War Saga: THRONES OF BRITANNIA, the Blood, Sweat and Spears pack uncorks the gore with limb-lops, beheadings and artisanal arterial arcs. It’s available to purchase now on Steam, and absolutely free to those who already own the Blood & Burning pack for Total War: ATILLA.
