While Smart does sometimes forget that shutting up can be a good thing... he's not been particularly incorrect in anything he's come out with in all honesty.
It isn't just about the amount of time they've taken to deliver the game. It's the behind the scenes stuff regarding their financials that is the most troubling - why would they need so many shell companies for example? They're not EA. (well, ok, maybe that's who they're aspiring to be...)

People shit on Smart saying "he did the exact same thing 20 years ago! Who is he to point the figure?". But me? I agree with smart BECAUSE he did the exact same thing 20 years ago and knows what it means to over-promise and to under-deliver. Except he didn't rob thousands of gamers but instead relied on publisher money to make his games. Still, at least his games were more finished (and in a shorter space of time) than what Star Citizen is right now
I'll repeat my point of a few years ago though: I think Robert, back in 2012, expected the performance of gaming system to increase quite a big by now and ... it didn't. With bit coin miners pushing the price of graphics cards through the roof and CPU's barely seeing a 10% increase until a year ago, Star Citizen is still as system-crippling as it was 6 years ago. On top of all the crap they added, they've been digging their own hole even deeper ever since.

The article basically says that there is no cap on hoarding money anymore. So ppl say that if they hold out until the real release(whenever that is) players who own it now will have an advantage.
well since i don't plan on playing it it doesnt bother me but maybe important for some folks here.

Sounds to me they want people to spend spend spend... regardless if the game is ever going to be completed, it's just another form of cash injection, designed to appeal to those with the money to spare AND with a desire to be better than everyone else.
More fool them I say.

Sounds to me they're running out of money. You only do such things because otherwise you'll run out. Considering how much money they got, it's ridiculous they'd need even more. Oh well, this game will never get released in a proper state.

Seems like a strange decision.
If they are claiming you won't be able to buy ships after release, which would completely solve the pay to win situation, but now allow people to hoard all the money they want so they can basically pay to win for a certain amount of time... it sounds like the biggest whales will get some sort of temporary pay to win until their initial funds run out.
Haha. I started admiring them. They didn't do shit since the the very start, it screams scam on all sides and yet there are idiots who give them money.
I've tried the game last weekend when it was free and uninstalled it after 30 min. 15 min of that were loadings. Other 15 min was torturing myself with 7-20 fps I don/t know what they did with all them millions of dollars, but game development is definitely not one of them.
