I've got near 2k hours in FO4, it seems like the B-team was behind Starfield. I refuse to believe the people behind Skyrim/FO3/FO4 were working on this as it's not even on the same level.
There's so little attention to detail as well. Go to the guard in the little booth in the beginning of New Atlantis and look around. Now do the same thing in a game like Mankind Divided (2016) with say... the booths in the subway.
This game looks like it's at least 10 years old in terms of design, environments, animation, characters, UI... and just about everything else. Barely anything to interact with in the environment and just really bland exploration.
I've got fond memories of FO4, even before mods came out. Epsilon and I were figuring out console commands on launch day, figuring out what we could and couldn't change while exploring a world that was built for exploration. The build tools, weapon mod tools etc weren't great, but it's still leagues above this shite.
I can't put in to words how pointless most things feel in Starfield in comparison to their old games. The bar was already pretty low, but fucking hell. It sort of feels like they wanted to see how far they could push the 'users will fix the game for us' meme. Hopefully they're knee deep in FO5 in the background, because this wasn't worth it.
My poor GTX 1080 is not having a good time of it - struggling to hit 45 FPS in exterior scenes regardless of settings. Looks like its finally met its match.
What I don't understand is where all that performance is going? I bumped the preset up to ultra and was not impressed at all versus medium/high. The visuals are, for the most part, pretty unimpressive. Hell, even Cyberpunk 2077 performs substantially better on my system (I can hit solid 65-75 during action with FSR2 at Balanced or Quality on that one) - and is more visually impressive as well.
I'm really dreading having to buy one of these fucking ludicrously priced RTX cards in the near future.
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

what baffles me is why do these games run like shit while looking 10+ years old in the graphics department.
used to be you need to visually wow people to have the right of running like shit

I don't think that'll fix devs being lazy. Selling your kidney for a 4090 is not the way to go.
And it seems even mid range RTX is not enough even for 1080p (while it very much should be and definitely can) if games keep being this garbage.
I think this game may be dead.. only seeing negative feedback and refunds from buyers. I think Bethesda bit off more than they could chew with this game.
Soulless procedural content.
Content for the sake of content.
Loading screens which tie back to the above.
Like even Skyrim has enough content.. I don't need the game to have 100 times more to explore.
^ People who dont like something will always speak the loudest.. the rest are busy playing the thing. It looks awful to me but im under no illusion of it being dead lmao
Gave it a good go and it's exactly what i expected, fallout in space for consoles. No fov slider, widescreen or hdr support and i can't even up the resolution beyond native, in order to do so i have to up the desktop resolution and then it runs that res ingame...
Space has been dumbed down to the point where this makes NMS look like a space sim, sure it's not the same game but more should be expected from a studio with such resources. Worst of all combat and all related activities are confined to the same small area in front of the planet you are located at, yikes.
Overall it's decent for what it is and that's about it, the Bethesda formula was great all those years ago but there is no evolution here and i can see many gamers moving on rather quickly.

I don't think the AAA industry is making games for us (experienced, picky, intelligent, handsome gamers) anymore.
Our standards are rising with almost each passing day... and this is very bad for a business that focuses on consumerism and not quality, passion or innovation.
Planescape, Pillars, past AAA titles from 90s or 00s, indies that leave a mark, 'touched potential' via some early access titles that we appreciate... all these are driving us into expecting almost each time the second coming from AAA companies.
Also, the situation is not improved by the lowest common denominator from the audience (the Insta addict, the TikTok consumer, the Tyrone console-man).
We are just a rare(r and in minority) breed in the basket. Others have been designated to be the main audience for these 'new'... consumables aka 'products'.
i just happened to be on mars.. and it started raining (ice hazard). while ducking under shit to avoid freezing, i noticed the ground was dry in certain places
the texture here seems to be fully dynamic, burned by ships thrusters initially, changes whether its dry or not and it also seems to wash away the thruster burns on the ground when the ground dries after the rain (unintended or otherwise)
interesting effort no one will notice.. unlike a fov slider
This is an interesting screen to look at, because I assumed the strange looking NPCs were all randomly generated. I guess not, because I recognise most of these. Somebody actually designed these ghouls, and another person gave them the green light. Astonishing. The wide open eyes really seal the deal

That's what their games already felt like, this is on another level
Maybe we just have to wait another three years, like with NMS/Cyberpunk. If they even bother
Pretty sure they're randomly generated (though not randomly generated any longer so everyone has them.) NPC's seems to exist in 3 varieties where these "ghouls" are the lowest "tier" and just randomly generated garbage that you're not really supposed to interact with - background stuff.
What are your predictions for Steam reviews? "Positive" is what i think.. don't think it will be as low as mixed.
If it's after 2 hours, never submit it through Steam's automated process. It reads your game time, and if over 2 hours, it cancels the request citing the time limit as a reason.
Always submit a ticket to a support person. Explain that the game crashes, you haven't been able to enjoy it, you spent X hours trying to fix it, link Steam forum posts of people having issues - explain that you tried everything etc etc

Huh. So CPU bound too I guess - didn't see that coming. Are they simulating the entire universe while I'm on that planet?

The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.
Jeebus, writing in this. I don't know if Bethesda become self-aware and it's ironic or they've bad writers or is it AI that compiled all previous Beth's Fallouts and has now written quests and dialogues.
I landed on New Atlantis, get to some Trade company. First thing that AI driven NPC says is: we are totally legitimate business here, no wonky stuff, no contraband, no sir no. 'wink' 'wiiinnk' 'WINK'. No just joking we totally do that here!
First quests - bitch I have so many fetch quests for you, so many I can't handle them. Please go bring me that briefcase with drugs, that gem and that fox shitted coffee that's pounded. I hope you like walking... without a proper map in a visually cluttered city.
Some NPC talking - look gardening is important. Ahh, I'm here for the paycheck. You will come around, you will see.
Looks you in the eyes - like in horror movie or game - it does smell nice.
I know it's a starting location and not everyone who bought it is a RPG aficionado and there must be a steady learning curve. But these are not characters they are caricatures. They are the epitome of NPC.
And how persuation works - it mind-boggles me. I went for that coffee ingridient - met some spaceport worker. Oh yiss it's time to persuade him.
Me: [Persuade] Oy mate I need something from the pound.
Him: No mate I really can't.
Me: Oh, I understand regulations and stuff.
Him: I'm glad you understand.
Me: So maybe we can work something out.
Him: Fuck, I was worried you wouldn't ask! - goes opens the gate.
WTF?!
