That's why I think STALKER could be so good, as long as they do have a big ass world, heck.. aslong as it's like in the videos i'll be happy. |
Works great in SA

From what I've seen in the alphas, stalker has a very lag free engine. Of course neithe AI nor anything else was integrated expect just terrain details, but the performace was neverthelss impressive, I doubt any other engine out there could handle a such detailed environment so lag-free...
btw, are there still no dx9 screenshots of the nenvironment?

u have to know that all alphas, betas or whatever don't have full dx9 potential
no fancy ps3.0,when full version will be out then we will see how lag-free it will be

You obviously know what you're talking about, it's not like the engine is coded from the ground up using the DX9 API.
For your information that's not part of the development cycle, you design the engine first. Not after.

That build was probably a hack of the first beta that came out 2+(?) years ago.. Seen it happen with lot's of other games, some can have 3 releases but it's the same beta just some (often lame) modifications from the release group.

AFAIK all the leaked betas/alphas are nothing more than just that. But the first alpha that leaked was old even when it was leaked!
Maybe that applies to more recent leaks too?
Still, I am not going to play any beta/alpha of stalker as that might ruin the final impression/spoil/whatever.
Behold his GLORY! Bow for the technical master!

This is typical.....
The game must be released before a certain date, either the game is finished or not.
And so, today, 99% of the released PC games is pure crap. Why?
They release an unfinished game, bring out massive patches (couple of 100Mbytes), many bugs never got solved (because they're already working on the next game in row...).
Examples?
-Battlefield Vietnam: Has almost no support and was released as a beta version.
-FEAR: 1 day before (!!!) the release there is already a patch downloadable of +/- 300mb, with some luck you'll be able to startup the game (hurray!)
-Star Wars Battlefront 2: Games crash/don't even work on Dual Core CPU's. Game was released JUST before Christmas days (money money!!!), but until now there is no patch solving this problem...
-I'm sure you can find some more recent titles that were released in Beta stage...
So, probably STALKER will go the same way IMO.
Great concept, great gfx, but unplayable because of the large amount of bugs.
Back in the old days (mid 90's), the games were finished with some minor bugs which was just 'annoying' but the games where perfectly playable. But now you cannot even startup games anymore!
That's why I don't buy games anymore. I want to install and play. Not install, crash to desktop and search for the latest patch, install the patch and 50% chance that it crashes again...
Do I download games? I used to....but almost not anymore because of the crap released these days. When a game is released, come and check this forum, wonder how much people have problems (not because of a faulty crack), also check the official forums.
The PC gaming scene is dying, very fast...

heres intresting read http://www.gamemag.ru/?act=showart&id=13395 <<< russian
Quote: | Information about THQ being not satisfied with the situation that developed inside GSC had already reached us before. "They (THQ) didn't even imagine what it's like to work with GSC, - shares with us one of the former members of the company - they didn't even understand who they dealt with. STALKER always was in the state of general design. It's always been a project which was more spoken of than really done." Another source claims that at the end of November THQ made a decision to stop financing the development and to conduct a thorough revision to gain control over the development process. "We don't care what shape the game will ship in anymore, - said one of the THQ bosses to an IGN journalist, - the game must ship in 2006".
In addition to all this last week part of the original STALKER development team was moved to another project and another part was simply made redundant. "These were considerable dismissals," - told the source that still remained a member of the GSC staff, - "I heard that next week a THQ representative will arrive and he is going to stay until the project is finished."
]The third source has information that a brand new engine not based on X-ray technology was in the works inside GSC, which could have been used to power renovated STALKER. Almost all of the team left the studio taking the technology created in a few months with them. GSC representatives consider this fact as theft, but former employees refer to "special circumstances". One of the members of the GSC team assumes that STALKER could be taken away along with the source code by the THQ representatives and handed to another team for work on the project. We attempted to contact GSC representatives but failed to receive an answer. THQ representatives commented on the issue drily: "No comments". |
if all this is rather true then i can forget about stalker for good meh.... those who can read russian can pretty much tell you more about the whole article on that link...
I teleported home one night
With Ron and Sid and Meg.
Ron stole Meggie's heart away
And i got Sidneys leg.

There are lots of games that are delayed and come out better for it.
There are lots of games that come out on schedule and are worse for it.
At the end of the day judgement should be made after playing the final product, not before. You're life continues merrily with or without the game I hope.
