Kevin Bacon will star and executive produce the series. No network has bought the rights yet, but it's only a matter of time.

Quote:
Kevin Bacon has signed on to star and exec produce a television series adaptation of “Tremors,” Variety has learned.

Based on the 1990 film, Bacon will reprise his role of Valentine McKee, 25 years later. He will also serve as an exec producer.

No network is yet attached to the “Tremors” remake, which hails from the NBCUniversal-based Universal Cable Productions and Blumhouse Productions, though insiders say multiple venues are hot on the project. Andrew Miller will pen the script.

TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"

Actor Kevin Bacon has confirmed that not only is the pilot for a TV series remake of iconic creature feature “Tremors” a go, it has found a home on the Syfy network.

Speaking with Screen Daily, Bacon confirms he’s reprising his role of Valentine McKee from the first film and will executive produce the series:

Quote:
“We are going to do a pilot for Syfy. It’s the only character I’ve ever played that I was interested in exploring 25 years later. It [‘Tremors’] is a really good movie. I don’t go back and watch my movies but because we were doing this one, I had to go back and look at it. It’s just the idea of this loser who is living a very ordinary life and has an extraordinary experience with these monsters and becomes, for a moment, a hero.”

The plan is to maintain the continuity with Ron Underwood’s original 1990 film which also starred Fred Ward, Finn Carter, Michael Gross and Reba McEntire. The story followed a group of unfortunate souls who find themselves facing off against monstrous sandworm creatures living beneath the earth of a small Nevada town. Several sequels, and a short-lived 2003 series followed.

Universal Cable Productions and Blumhouse Productions are producing with Andrew Miller (“The Secret Circle”) attached to script. Bacon is currently headlining the Amazon comedy series “I Love Dick”.

Syfy has reportedly passed on picking up a “Tremors” TV series which would’ve had Kevin Bacon reprising his role of Valentine ‘Val’ McKee.

Bacon revealed the news himself on an Instagram post last night. He confirmed a pilot episode was filmed and completed, but Syfy opted to scrap the project.

you are right. also they were pretty much cheap horeshit. so i don't even know why they wanted to reboot this as a series. good thing it didn't worked out. alot money saved for everyone.

i mean just look this trailer. MAYBE it was ok when it was released for some (few) people, but who would watch something like this today? Laughing

it's one of those many movies which some people saw as a child and think back in time and "oh man what a great movie this was, probably the best ever" but actually it was pretty shitty.
i hate those kind of people, those people will also show movies to friends which they saw as a kid and wonder why no one is enjoying it. "man yall got no taste this is a classic so enjoy it" "oh just look how funny was that scene (fake laugh)" while everyone in the room just wait for it to be over already.

Tremors is a great as an ensemble film. Characters are all great and chemistry between them is very fun. They're also not dumb but make smart decisions or come with clever solutions. I always liked this movie, and think it may be a bit underrated.
You don't see the monsters a lot, so there's not a lot of dated effects. They're practical effects anyway, so it looks better than most movies using CGI from 15 years ago.

RLM also did a piece on this.

The effects and action might look outdated and shitty today, so in trailer form it might look disappointing. But watching the movie can be a different experience than watching the trailer, because you are not immediately exposed to the outdated effects, and your brain is given time to warm up to the fact you are watching something outdated. And then you might be able to appreciate the good parts of the film.
