I played for about 8 hours and the story is fine, so far. I wasn't expecting any writing miracles and there are none. This is a game with a storytelling through style rather than text. All the characters are cool and likable in a comic book way, which is pretty much what I wanted. The drawn cut-scenes are absolutely epic and always left me wanting more. Even the gameplay is not too shabby for a jRPG, obviously coming with the appropriated grind.
I think the game's biggest problem is how combat works. It gets repetitive to the point where it feels like an unskippable grind. I constantly felt the need of an auto-resolve button. I think this 3v3 approach and how the combat mechanics work don't leave enough room for tactics, which gives the combat a rather low threshold in becoming tiresome. Some of the enemies are also extremely exaggerated being able to wipe the party in 2 turns.
I like it, despite some obvious gameplay design issues. It's different, in a good way. A proper distraction from the standard RPGs that we, the westerners, get quite often nowadays.

Shit robot is shit.
That HORRID looking robot is more than enough to make me never touch this game.
It's a shame he looks so stupid and out of place.

Robot looks fine for late 80s sci-fi anime. No clue what is wrong.

played it for 2 hours, boring and repetitive, really dunno whats the all fuss about, you see one fight you've seen them all, graphics and style are super nice but gameplay is very meh.

Exactly the impression I got and hence my "style over susbtance" remark.

Well I'm looking forward to this given it looks like what JRPG used to be. I think its a real shame the only games that come out of japan now are anime button mashers with no challenge. tales series, ys series, all those dynasty games and clones, nier, new final fantasy > zzzzzzzz
last good JRPG was FFX 2001.

Such a disappointing game this turned out to be. Oh well, paid no money for it, away it goes.

Loving it so far ... about 7h (just got some mage to the party)
+ gorgeous art and overall design
+ excelent battle system
+ overcharge
- starting to feel bit grindy (but nothing terribl)
- only few methods of healing (losing one person in party can be bad as combat is all about team synergy)
- loadings could be faster

Where do I find the menu to distribute "Perk Points" between characters? People are claiming that it's in the same menu as Equipment, but I'm level 09 and have no such thing. Here's a screenshot of what I see - I'm either blind or totally daft....

I'm enjoying this, good amount of grinding and repeatable dungeons + monster lore book to fill.
Btw, if the perk list don't show, try to advance the main quest.
I think it was not there initially, and only showed up... suddenly. I also just suddenly realized it was there and started using perks.
