November 2017: "But finally Dark 227 is complete."
January 2018: "Actually no progress on this project but I decided to make some sort of teaser to show you how Unreal Redux will look like and how much power hides in Unreal 227."

That was the last update on the progress you gave, so like I said, from an outsider's perspective it looks like nothing has happened since November 2017 Smile

But it's great to hear I am wrong and you have made further progress, it looks like a fantastic facelift and I will be thrilled to play it one day!

Oh yes I see =) you are right its my fault. I was more active @ UnrealSP.org and keep posting pictures there.

I'm also more active on my YouTube channel, there I answered a lot of relevant questions about this project in the comment section of the trailer.

Thanks for your visit and the informations! Smile

I am doing some comparison to stock/227h community patch/dx10 rendered since they cannot be used together.

Stock - too dark(more than I remember), no widescreen out of the box, no high resolutions.
227h - too bright lol. But other than that everything seems fine.
dx10 renderer - this one seems perfect. Proper brightness levels, not changing look to much.

I installed Unreal Gold retail (with 226b) integrated and it does recognize and work properly with wide resolutions.

No, the last official by Epic is 226. Then someone named Smirftsch got the source code and permission by Epic to continue with their own patches, and 227 was born. So it's not by Epic, but it is built from the original source rather than being a hack or something and it is being made and released with permission by Epic.

So if anyone is interested I've made a small comparison of most popular renderers for Unreal gold. Stock from gog version, dx10 and renderers from 227i patch(those have 1 image because they are all identical looking).
All at 32bit 1024x768 just to be fair.

To me, dx10 renderer just steals the show. Have proper brightness and sky looking like it was on voodoo1 (according to the guy who made the renderer but also my memory lol).
Stock Directdraw also looks good and close to dx10 but aside from proper brightness, dx10 also offer correct resolutions, fov and anti aliasing... and support for hires textures which I've not tried.

edit: I cannot believe how badly imgur has butchered those images compression but You get the point

Yeah, the only way to have compression-free pics there is by making an account which unlocks the "Upload images in high quality" box. A bit silly, but at least it's not too much of a hassle.

Anyway, the Dx10 Renderer is my favourite as well with the engine (an absolute must especially for the original Deus Ex Razz), it also comes with many customization options which are nice to have.

I prefer the brighter look of OpenGL in the screenshots, which is also closer to Glide, which was the more "official" hardware accelerated renderer for Unreal.

You can change the OneXBlending setting to make the game darker. https://www.oldunreal.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1340587646/

Quote:
If I remember right, the more colorful 227 way was the initial setting when it came out, but changed later with D3D to the washed out one. Due to the fact that many people never experienced how it was introduced, the D3D one became the most common and known.

Another difference is "OneXBlending" - while Unreal looked in the first place much more colorful (f.e. in v200) people got used later to the "washed out look" in D3D (v224-226)- so D3D itself already was a change. You can toggle this in the advanced options with the OneXBlending option.

The next oldunreal patch, 227j, will also deliver XOpenGL as a new render device for better performance and colors!

Interesting. I just hope the game isn't filled with halos, coronas, weird lighting etc in an attempt to "modernise it"
