Just finished it, holy shit was it good. I expected a campy and shallow 80s cashgrab, but it was much more. Sensei Miyagi's spirit permeated the show throughout.

Finished it: have to say it's actually good, but most of the good you see is taken 1:1 from the old movies (not necessarily a bad point, but still).
Only thing is, I didn't particularly like the Johnny character: is way too anchored to the '80s, with semi-nazi thoughts and doing, really dumb sometimes.
Clearly this series it's about his redemption, but sometimes he'd need a brain format more than a better channeling.

I agree on that point. It's like he was frozen in time and suddenly wakes up 30 years later or something. Nobody can be that disconnected from reality. But thankfully that only comes into play sometimes so it's not too much of a bother.
Overall very enjoyable series though. It also makes me feel really old.

That can't be right. Shows I enjoy don't get renewed. Someone must have made a mistake.
I'm glad this is coming back, but it's a risky move. It's going to have to stand on its own two feet now - it won't be able to lean on the nostalgia factor and the original's scenes anymore. I hope they can keep the magic alive!

I fucking hate Daniel now. The perspective change of this show is just fucking awesome. I grew up watching the karate kid and hating Johnny. Now it is the opposite. Fucking hate Daniel This show is just fucken amazing

I have watched the first season obviously.
I think it's mainly about Johnny as the underdog with a shit life taking revenge on Daniel. Daniel in turn sees Cobra Kai and Johnny as bad guys (as we saw in the original movie although there were some ambiguity when Johnny questioned his master about that leg sweep and just got shit from his master) while he's become smug and a bit arrogant.
woot woot!, ugh what a shitty start, they really need more jokes, this was way to serious and dull .... , i think the writers ran out of steam i wouldnt even know how to make it funny anymore, they canabilized the first movie already for mementos, now all thats left is those second and third movie which sucked
