It’s official! Bandai Namco announced today that Dark Souls: Remastered is in the works.
Quote:
This upgraded version of the game is set to release May 25, 2018 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. It’ll feature “upscaled 4K resolution with 60FPS when playing on a PlayStation 4 Pro system, Xbox One X, and PC.”
Dark Souls Remastered runs at a fairly stable but not quite locked 60 FPS on the PS4 Pro, which holds up well amid high intensity visual effects. However even running on PS4 Pro there are noticeable visual limitations. In particular, there's a lot of blur and pop-in for textures at a distance. The lighting upgrades sure are nice, but this is built on the foundations of a now seven year old game — and it's not running as flawlessly as you might expect. There are some odd visual limitations and audio issues that suggest the game isn't running comfortably all the time on PS4 Pro, and that's one of the most powerful platforms it'll be released on.
Not only does everything look a bit crisper, but textures pop more and enemies look even more menacing, which didn’t seem possible.
Dark Souls Remastered will support 4K resolution and 60 frames per second on the Xbox One X and PlayStation 4 Pro.
The Nintendo Switch version of Dark Souls Remastered will be pushed back to Summer 2018. We apologise for the delay but rest assured, the extra time will improve your journey to Lordran.
