In times of political turmoil and social unrest, the people are calling out for a visionary leader, one who will steer the fate of their country with foresight and ingenuity. Will you answer that call?

I hope this time they improve the game more. As the differences between 4 and 5 weren't that big.
IIRC some things were even better in 4?

The actual economic strategy between 3, 4, and 5 held more or less the same. However, 5 introduced the whole timed era and family dynasty system, which I personally loathed! It was cool on paper, but badly executed.
However, I think the thing I hated most about 5 is that progress carried over between your two islands from mission to mission. Which means that, if at some point you fucked up and depleted resources too early, or just screwed up the layout, you were screwed for the rest of the game.
Also, they used a whole new cast of voice-actors for 5 (I guess Kalypso switched VO studios?), and they were all awful compared to 3 and 4's cast. Didn't sound authentic or funny like the original guys!

Haha yeah, absolutely, it was the typical one step ahead-two steps back kind of sequel. Another disappointment came from the thin contents, I remember the 1.0 version being released in a such a bare-bones state that the development phase itself looked like it went through a strict dictatorship.
Here's hoping things will get back to the golden era, make Tropico great again! (or not, since given the circumstances that's actually an omen)
- Play on large archipelagos for the first time in the series. Manage multiple islands at the same time and adapt to various new challenges.
- Send your agents on raids to foreign lands to steal world wonders and monuments, to add them to your collection.
- Build bridges, construct tunnels and transport your citizens and tourists in taxis, buses and aerial cable cars. Tropico 6 offers completely new transportation and infrastructure possibilities.
- Customize the looks of your palace at will and choose from various extras.
- Tropico 6 features a revised research system focusing on the political aspects of being the world’s greatest dictator.
- Election speeches are back! Address the people and make promises that you can’t possibly keep.
- Cooperative and competitive multiplayer for up to four players.

Hmm...no Haemimont games as a developer this time.
Limbic is listed as developer and i must say that this makes me even more skeptical (they did M&M X and Heroes VII for Ubi, so not exactly bursting with confidence)

Wow. I failed to notice that completely. I simply assumed it'd be Haemimont. It wouldn't be Tropico if it wasn't.
Well, there goes any and all excitement for this.

The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.
l Presidente returns with Tropico 6! Prove yourself once again as a feared dictator or peace-loving statesman on the island state of Tropico and shape the fate of your nation through four distinctive eras. Face new challenges on the international stage and always keep the needs of your people in mind.
In Tropico 6 you manage extensive archipelagos, build bridges to connect your islands and use new means of transportation and infrastructure for the first time in the series. Send your Tropicans on raids to steal the wonders of the world, including the Statue of Liberty and the Eiffel Tower. Customize your palace at will and give election speeches from your balcony, to win the favour of your subjects.
With Tropico 6, your favourite dictator sim returns January 2019 on Windows PC, Mac, Linux in Summer 2019 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
As the owner, co-founder and managing director of Kalypso Media, I have been always convinced that if Kalypso creates the kind of video games I would love to play myself, that there will be a lot of strategy game enthusiasts out there who like what we are doing and the company will be successful.
Since I first played the original “Tropico”, released by PopTop and Take Two back in 2001, I have been a huge fan of the series. So when Kalypso had the chance to acquire and reboot the IP I jumped at the opportunity and have taken a lot of financial risk for our company to continue the experience of playing a dictator on a Caribbean island.
Over the holidays, I have played Tropico 6 for many hours and really liked what I saw. But, in my humble opinion, it is not enough to like a game – I want to love it! And Tropico 6 is good, but not very good, or outstanding. Yet.
Combining my own opinion and the response we had from thousands of dedicated beta players around the world, Kalypso has decided to postpone the release of the game for another couple of months to March 29, 2019.
We know this is short notice and many of you, especially the ones who have pre-ordered, played the beta and gave such comprehensive and valued feedback, might be disappointed – but we think we can make the game better by adding some more icing on the Tropican cake.
Kalypso and Limbic are working hard to add as many of the community requests for enhanced features and gameplay as possible into the release version of the game. But we cannot do this overnight, and want to present the best possible Tropico experience to the fans of the franchise.
Features like pathfinding, a challenging multiplayer and the comprehensive simulation not only of each individual Tropican, but of the whole economy, are already implemented well, but could benefit from more balancing, testing and enhancement to meet our very high quality standards for Tropico 6.
Again, I apologize for the delay, and can only ask all fans for their patience and understanding as we put in even more work, with the hope that the game will meet your expectations on March 29, 2019.
As a loyalty bonus and reward for your patience, all customers who have pre-ordered the game by 7pm (CET) January 10th, 2019 via our own Kalypso Shop, Steam and other digital platforms, will receive the first DLC, planned for Q2 2019, free of charge.
Yours sincerely
Simon Hellwig, Owner and Managing Director of Kalypso Media Group
PS: Of course, you can always return or refund your pre-order if you prefer.
* The first DLC shall be released in Q2, 2019 and will be automatically added to your Tropico 6 Steam app package.
Just yesterday I remembered about this game and was kinda looking forward to the release in a few weeks. Serves me right.

Good, I hope they have enough time to improve on some things. I heard mixed opinions from folks playing the beta.
One would think that a delay would be good and they'd use that time wisely. Then again, how many times in recent gaming history have we seen delays like this only for the final game to be released and still be an outright shit show?
Either the beta was in an outright embarrassingly awful state (anyone who played it care to chime in?), or they're merely using this 2 month nudge as a marketing ploy to better position their release. Methinks that not much can be done in two months that hasn't been done in years of development thusfar.

I agree with you completely. It’s all lip service these days. It’s just as bad as devs using the generic patch notes statement of “we continuously update our program to bring you enhancements and bug fixes” and never any details.

True words, if it's shit in beta then it will be shit on release.
Quite enjoyable actually , best of series.
I'm really tempted to grab it and find out. Can't say I have much faith in them handing off the series to a new studio while their vets are stuck on Surviving Mars. At this point however I think it's just best to wait so as not to sully that new game feel when end of March rolls around.
How many missions does the iND beta release have?
