And finished DLC, the few games that kept me going. They did right to inspire themselves from CDPR, enough and great content. Huge world to run around and kill dino-robots, fantastic.
Music, gfx, animations, a great game.

I got to play this for a bit (I'm close to level 30) and I don't see what all the fuss is about. It's nothing more than a streamlined open world action game disguised as an RPG.
The lore is interesting (it's hard to fuck up with a post-apocalyptic setting), but the story and the side quests are so bland and hardly interesting. The writing isn't anything worth praising, some amusing moments here and there, but nothing worth remembering. The dialogues are simplistic and have no choices and consequences tied to them. And in 20+ hours of gameplay I haven't met an interesting character yet.
The world design is good, swapping through different biomes while still retaining something from the past. But I'm no fan of the cities, which feel lifeless and empty with the few NPCs that have something to say being marked on the map as quest givers (MMO style!).
The gameplay is so so. There is a wide variety of robotic animals/monsters and it's pretty cool that you have to know their weaknesses and combine different types of weapons/traps to take them down. This makes the ranged combat satisfying and probably the focal point of this game. On the other hand, the melee combat is atrocious (I'm starting to miss TW3's melee combat...). In general, the gameplay feels guided and simplistic, something you see mostly in Ubisoft's open world games. There is no sense of discovery, the map is pretty much displaying everything you need to know and when it doesn't, you can buy that information. There is very little to discover all by yourself and it's nothing interesting anyway aside of extra lore. The itemization and the skill system are pretty basic providing a linear progression with no interesting options to make proper builds. There is a clear mindset of convenience which is underlined even by the vendors, which mostly sell the same stuff. The gameplay doesn't benefit at all from this lack of complexity and it feels like the variety of enemies and the cool damage model go to waste.
The graphics are nice, mostly due to impressive vistas, some particle/lighting effects and combat physics. The color pallet however seems to be borrowed from a Disney's cartoon rendering environments dressed in rainbows. But this is a mild issue compared to the facial design. Most characters have dull faces pulling a psychopathic smile like they want to eat you for dinner. There is a lack of bump mapping to the point where everybody is as smooth as a baby's ass. Add to this a lip sync that's almost always lagging behind and the dialogue sequences are going way past the weird threshold.
I'm really not impressed by Horizon and I've been searching for the elements that made the journalists shower it with 9s, 10s and 11s. I like the setting and the fights with the robots, but that's pretty much it. So far, Horizon is a casual action-adventure that can be entertaining, but has nothing on RPGs like The Witcher 3.

I put this down about halfway through and haven't returned to it for months...just didn't grip me enough, and other games appeared. might drop the difficulty right down so I can see the rest of it

Liked the combat in this.
The history of the world story line was okay, but presented in a horrible way imo.
Enter a bunker -> audio/video fragments galore. Outside -> practically nothing worthwhile.
I couldn't care less for the tribe stories or characters.
But, I did like the gameplay.
Off to the Last Of Us remake now...

I thought the story in Zelda BOTW was better than the story in Horizon. And I cared more about Zelda and the 4 devine characters than any of Horizon.
Yep that says a lot how much I thought Horizon was boring!

Combat, enemies, story and setting were great.
I liked aloy and cared for her, my problem with the game was that aloy was the only character i cared or liked, they need to add better characters.
Also add more cities/villages will be great.

what story in botw? You wake up, walk around a bit, solve a puzzle, beat a bad guy by learning a pattern... walk around a bit some more and solve other puzzles and bet a bad guy to learn a pattern. Rinse and repeat until you fight the main bad guy by remembering the previous patterns and then learning a new pattern for the final. But then something happens and you remember that there was a story.
Most of the story is told through memories, and fuck hunting down pieces to learn the whole story.

Precisely. Go hunt the memories, there are 13 cutscenes, plenty to wrap-up a story. Also, each devine beast are tied to the characters from the memories.
If you are too lazy to hunt them down, just google their location (or even lazier, extract the game assets, they are all MP4, including the post scene credits that you get when you get all the memories).

right... not part of main quest or main story no need to do the leg work. A side quest isn't a requirement for main story. It would be main story can can't complete game w/o it. It isn't. So it's not worth it. It's not fun running 30 min in desolate area to find a bit of a memory to get more of the story. Populated areas are fun. Areas with baddies are fun. Not many of them.

It's Worth it because you get the true ending doing so so yeah it's mandatory if you wanna know the full story.
I myself made it mandatory for me, and that's why I loved this game, because I got to choose to play this game as I wanted, and wasnt not forced in any way to do things I didn't want to do.
Horizon on the other hand was full boredom… on every aspect of the game.
PS : I purchased both games, and have both platforms. It's just my opinion.

No real reason to play it on my PC then, i guess, maybe nice to have mouse? I never played though the entire thing on PS4.
One thing i hate with playing on PC is that HDR is usually messed up, or not even included. On console it usually just works.

With all the patches on the PC HDR works quite good, but I will still just try it out on PS5 today as well
