Empires Apart is an old-school Real Time Strategy game set in medieval times. It aims to recapture the excitement and wonder of collecting resources, building an army and raising to victory. With focus on competitive online play, Empires Apart brings the classic real time strategy gameplay to the modern age.

Empires Apart is a throwback to old school isometric medieval RTSs. Games are played on a random generated map where each player picks a Civilization, gathers four types of resources (food, wood, stone, gold) in order to build an army big enough to crush his opponent.
Each Civilization in Empires Apart will feel unique and should be played differently by the player. Each Civilization will have substantially different buildings and units, while keeping the same overall archetypes throughout the game. Civilization bonuses, team bonuses and unique units are thrown away in favour of a truly unique design for each Civilization. Taking a hint from MMORPGs or MOBAs, each Civilization is designed to fit a particular role in a team based game. Each Civilization is designed to be a Rush, Boom or Support type of Civilization. After choosing a Civilization, the player can choose one of two or more Variants. These Variants will keep the Civilization likeness and units roughly the same but will change the way the Civilization plays by favouring certain aspects over others (eg. one variant might have improved cavalry but weaker navy and another variant might have improved navy but weaker cavalry). These Variants are classifiable under the same types as Civilizations do and can therefore alter the potential roles that a Civilization might play in a team based game (eg. a Boom type Civilization might have a Support variant, creating a Boom/Support hybrid).
After choosing a Civilization and a Variant, the player can choose one of two or more Heroes. Heroes are special units that can be created in a Town Center or other important buildings. A player can only create one Hero per game. Once killed, the Hero is gone for the rest of the game. A Hero is a historically relevant figure that behaves unlike any other unit in the game, having access to unique passive and active abilities. Understanding how to use Heroes can turn the tides of a match. While each Civilization must be able to hold its own in a 1v1 scenario, Civilization Types, Variants and Heroes will allow them to excel in team-based games and create interesting team strategies.
Heh the art style of those close-ups reminds me of Ecstacia although polygonal instead of what the hell was it called, elipsoid something?, anyways besides that obviously the game itself will be far more tame in terms of content, especially compared to the first Ecstatica game.
I want to elaborate why I hate this art style now that I have time, beyond "I hate it".
To me this look like Planetary Annihilation, aka. toys. Which is my problem with it. I feel this is like playing with your own Lego troops back when we're kids without the benefits of Legos.
There are times where fidelity to reality is not necessary the only way to portray the subject , but when you're making a Medieval RTS VIDEO GAME, where armies of men will do brutal battles across the fields, seeing toys portray that subject is a disservice to the reality and the fantasy.
I know its still early development, but where are the blood? The corpses? The aftermath of a battle? With this art style, I don't think they can portray that at all.
This game is like taking away the spectacle of medieval warfare and strip it down to purely gameplay mechanics, no visual satisfaction, aka. chess. So why is it a worthwhile video game? You don't get to say inspired by the classic AOE series or Empire Earth and only take part of it. It wasn't just the mechanics that made it great.
I will just jump on the hate train regarding the art style.

It's a shame that none of the devs in Italy can come up with something half-decent, we could use a boost in the gaming development culture yet we're here, stuck in the Paleozoic era of mobile-like games and copy-pastas (literally) xD
Empire Earth and Age of Empires Inspired ‘Empires Apart’ Will Have a Single Player Campaign
Quote:
DESTINYbit recently acquired a publisher for Empires Apart, Slitherine, whose responsible for publishing quite a few RTS games. With a publisher now on board, the development team at DESTINYbit will now be shipping the game with a full single player campaign, however, they aren’t quite ready to talk about it just yet. Since the game was originally intended as a multiplayer only title, development of the single player campaign in Empires Apart will begin at a later date.
Creative Director on the project, Gian Paolo Vernocchi, told me “the campaign in Empires Apart has a meta-map kinda like Total War but with a very boardgame-y feel to it.” Unfortunately, that’s all I could get out of him at the moment regarding the campaign. Vernocchi did provide me with a few more details regarding extra single player content in Empires Apart, however.
Empires Apart is currently scheduled for a Q4 2017 release on the PC with a potential Early Access launch in early 2017.

A developer on the steam forum said they may be adding a SP campaign in the future
After 20 people buy this game, 15 of which will be the developers' friends ... and after the average online player base will be 2 autists turtling against AI opponents ... don't hold your breath for a SP campaign to be added
I wish to see something with more effort than skirmish and MP only or MOBA.

Well, I for once wish them all the best in selling 100K copies of the game. And the 30 players that will play it in half a year time.
