My sentiments exactly. Glad I didn't buy this piece of shit. I do like the cartooney graphics for the most part. There are some fun shenanigans to pull with friends. But content-wise, this game is extremely lacking. And for how little content there is, it feels like they're running their game server out of their parents basements or something.
This game has potential to be great. Implement some sort of a story mode, some sort of a trade mode between ports, have players be able to take control of an island and build things out.
By the time they implement any content, I think most of the playerbase will move on to other things.

Yeah, there's a good foundation, but little is built on it.
The game uses cosmetics as a progression system, where the intent is that everyone is equal in power but as you get further, you can buy more expensive cosmetics. Yet there's SO LITTLE cosmetics in the first place.
They could built on this far more. Buying cosmetics for the interior of the ship. Going on missions to find unique ship or character cosmetics, instead of the usual repetitive missions. Owning islands of increasing sizes for which you can buy more cosmetics.
Also, a better trade mode should really have been used for the merchant alliance. Their current missions are the least interesting of the 3 factions. I've seen so many ways to improve it.
Despite this, I still enjoy the game in smaller doses. I don't see it as a long-term investment and I probably won't be there by the time they release the first content update. But for now its fun, and could get way more fun if they looked at some of the great suggestions people have made.
I still wonder what they spent those years of development on. My personal guess is that its a classic case of "we restarted development halfway through and released it early because we ran out of money".
Completely agree with you guys, this feels so much like a totally missed opportunity.
You can't really interact with players outside your group, there are no different ships ( !!! ), no actual towns,.. that Reddit post nailed it. It's even more infuriating because pretty everyone with a functional brain can see the wasted potential in this.
Well, don't need to upgrade to W10 yet !

So I'm looking for some fun multiplayer game to play, this one looks fun from all the videos but I'm having a hard time convincing myself to buy it for 60$.

So is it worth buying ? I'm guessing no.
Sign up for the Xbox Game Pass trial and you can play it on PC for free

No, but try it out yourself. I think you can find way better fun for 60€ probably even 2/3 MP games instead of one content barren game that won't last more than a month or two of your attention.
BUT like others have said a few times now: test it out with the trial.

Ultimate waste of everyone's time. What a pile of garbage. Deleted it after 5 hours of time wasting.
The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.
Game can be fun if played right. Last game, I was grouped with folks. We found a parked galleon by an island. We approached it, the other guys were trying to make a run for it. We blasted them with cannons, as they turned toward us, I took a explosive barrel, dived in and sneaked into their ship. Set the charge there, killed the person commanding the ship, blew up the barrel. Enough damage to cause it to sink. Grabbed a chest and made a run for it back to our ship.
Glorious shit.
Another game earlier today, I was sailing alone with my sloop, parked near an island where I had a quest to get some skulls and shit. Was just about to sail away when I saw a galleon pull up with a group of tards inside. I got off my ship, they sank it. I don't think they realize if they talk on their headphones, I can hear them when close enough. As they disembarked to search for me on the island, I swam up to their ship. Surprised killed the guy who was guarding it. I raised the anchor, dropped the sails and crashed their ship into the island. Was trying to take their ship but damnit, I panicked and didn't turn fast enough
They were talking all kinds of trash but eventually killed me

After playing like 3 hours, i can say that this game has huge potential to be World of Warcraft in seas if content is done right, and they dont fuck up the game with modern microtransactions (dont mind if they just add pets and shit). Absolutely loving the gameplay, had so much fun with Brother and friend, sailing is amazing (the sea is incredibily well done along with the sounds), and the art style is so nice ;0.
But jesus fucking christ windows shit store + xbox combo is horrible.

What's wrong with windows store? Had no issues downloading on PC and Xbox
Some of my personal issues with the Windows Store + Xbox combo:
- The Windows Store won't let me limit my download speed
- The Windows Store seemingly tried to re-download the ENTIRE game between scale tests or beta. Any patch was a complete redownload. And yet it didn't delete the previous game partition while redownloading the game.
- The Xbox app is required to access everything related to the game. Partly because its used to log you in, but also because it's where you'll see some game-related info (boring stuff like achievements) but also because it's where you'll go to add any player you liked grouping with OR because some Xbox users (crossplay enabled) will message you through the Xbox messaging system instead of in-game. Which means you won't see anything they say unless you use the Xbox app.
Overall, the Store and the Xbox apps are WORKING. They're simply cumbersome tools used to do a simple job.
New game pass accounts only (or create a new account)
Also includes state of decay 2 (release may 22) if you wait long enough
That worked just great, thanks. I read about that method earlier, but it kept mentioning that an XBOX Live Gold sub was needed for it to work. THIS IS NOT TRUE ON PC.
That said - holy fucking christ is the Microsoft store GODAWFUL.
Firstly, the game isn't listed in my Library even though I've got it installed. It doesn't put an icon on the desktop or anywhere in my Start Menu after installation. I literally have to either launch it via the store page, or search for it via Windows Search.
It doesn't give you a choice of where to install the game either, only the drive letter. And to add insult to injury - the game doesn't show up in Add/Remove programs, the only way to get rid of it is to search for it via windows search, right click the "App" (like I'm on some sort of goddamned phone), and uninstall. Who knows if this actually gets rid of it completely or not - I could have sworn I've got some HD space missing.
Also, the whole grouping thing goes through the fucking XBOX App in Windows. Ugh.
What a fucking abomination that store front is...holy fucking hell.
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

So you made the game fun by yourself, the game wasn't fun in itself Yeah, like every open-ended multiplayer game it has its moments, too bad you have to get very creative
Thanks for the stories, that 2nd one must have been hilariously exciting to perform ! Get used to it if you're playing solo though, your ship is at a high risk of getting sunk if you go on a treasure hunt.
I wouldn't count on new content, Rage already promised way more content than the alpha/beta, and all we got was a few consumables and the Kraken.
It's a 15$ game at the very best, I wouldn't spend 60$ on it unless I had money to blow.
At this price the game is a scam. Maybe they are following Ubisoft's model of releasing online games. Launch a fully priced game and add content over time, this way you sell at the best value and have gamers praising you for supporting the game.

Glad it worked out, i bought 3 keys in advance. Thats $6 for 6 months of games lol
Don't have to. You can make a new account -> redeem the code -> download the game -> play from your main account.
Quite a nice deal if you are looking to play PlayAnywhere titles. Horizon 3 should be added in few months.

1 month for a code, but when you redeem it it will ask you to put in payment options for further payment and will give you a month free. After that you can simply turn off auto payment.
