|
 |
My CPU has recently started to overheat, not extremely, but 65+ C. The current fan has now done the work for about a year, but it's starting to fall behind. I've tried to open the case, but with no great effect.
So, now I'm wondering what could have caused the CPU to start to overheat now and how to most easily fix it. I'm a student and I don't have allot of money lying around so any cheap solutions would be great.
I'm using the stock fan that came with my AMD64 3000+ and I have not overclocked it.

Dust dust and dust. That really does a huge difference on your degrees. Other then that check if the air flow is working, check every fan in your case.

Like Mutantius said, dust really makes a difference. Buy a can of compressed air, i use them regulary on my fans, without the regular cleaing my temps rise to over 85c. Also make sure that your fan is still working with the correct rpm, maybe the sensor is broken and it's only spinning with the lowest rpm.

Have you got pets? Pet fur can make a hell of a difference to the heatsink.

My CPU used to overheat too (on my old computer)..
Sometimes it was as high as 95c..
After cleaning out the dust, I couldn't get it higher than 40 at full load in a fucking hot room..
So cleaning out the dust helps most of the time..
I hate you.

The answer is to have your pc in the fridge all the time... Hard with the cables and stuff, but hey much cheaper than watercooler

I don't know if you're being serious Deelix, but putting a pc in the fridge is a sure way of killing it. Condensation would finish it for sure.

I case your hardrive has problems with the circuit board (for example a hairline crack) or mechanical problems you might be able to get it working again for a few mintes if you put it in the fridge. The reason is the cold, when it's running it heats up and the crack can get bigger, put it in the fridge and it closes again.

I do. Which version you got Sin?
Mine is the old one. I got it free with my house. The old woman who sold my place had it in a cupboard. With a disk drive too.
