Seems like no one has picked up these news from December/January:

As Saber continues to work on Quake, it’s also working on other projects, most notably a follow up to its 2007 time-manipulation shooter: TimeShift. Saber hasn’t officially announced it yet, but it’s in development. It’s something of a passion project for the studio. TimeShift is a bit of a cult classic, and among the developers, it’s got a lot of fans.
“Every year we do a company party, and our biggest studio is in St. Petersburg, and every year, I kid you not, there’s a bowl, and it’s filled with rubles,” Karch laughs. “They call it the Timeshift 2 fund. Everyone comes in and puts rubles in this Timeshift 2 fund because everyone wants to work on it.”
He eventually acquiesced, and the team is now in the design prototyping phase. Of course, it can’t be called TimeShift 2, since Activision still owns the rights, so instead it’s a spiritual successor. It will be a new story with a new name, but the most important elements, like the time manipulation, will be returning. For Karch, who was the original game designer, it’s very exciting. “TimeShift was my baby in every way.”
As for the new name, nothing is set in stone, but Karch has already registered ‘Timebender’. He can’t help but chuckle when he says it. |

Why would you even think that, it was a popular enough game not something obscure.

yeah, but it wasnt. Crysis 1 is one of the finest expressions of the fps genre. For the most part. Flexible, abounds with options on how to tackle the game, excelent gunplay and feedback, good AI. Timeshift is a slightly above mediocre liniar shooter in the most classic sense that doesnt excel at absolutely anything and the actual shooting and combat situations are actually pretty shitty.
I mean, we all have our unsung titles we think deserve beter. But lets not get carried away quite this hard. That Timeshift barely broke 70 in reviews and faded from public conciousness isnt some injustice or conspiracy. Thats all that the game was.

For me, Crysis was always just a glorified tech demo. I never had a connection with the story or characters. The setting was bland and the thing failed as a game.
Timeshift had me hooked from the beginning. The story made me want to advance and see what happens next. Not once did I have to force myself to move on.
Same can't be said with Crysis lol.

i mean, if you're the story type of gamer, that fires up a shooter and looks for story and characters, i can see it being a valid point. Thats not the point of Crysis, nor shooters in general at that point in time.
Still, this great disservice that part of the gaming comunity does to Crysis, calling it a tech demo, i cant agree on. I already pointed - its a fully flesshed out game, with a vast array of player tools at your disposal and free form reactive gameplay and all the important core ideas that make up a good FPS are rock solid. The type of videos someone like StealtGamerBR puts today with games like Dishonored or Hitman, you can replicate in Crysis.
It was always a proper game, never a tech demo

I will always have a soft spot for Crysis myself, since (all memes aside) I consider it a milestone of PC gaming and one of the very few games that genuinely blew my mind in terms of sandbox-y interactivity, visual fidelity and dynamic AI. It truly felt like a huge maximum technological jump for the time, which I found highly enjoyable even as a pure game (the generic writing and aliens didn't tarnish it for me), it was something that gave me a huge boost of hope for the future of the entire first-person genre and...well, the rest is history.
That said, Timeshift for me was definitely enjoyable as well, only in a completely different way. The good linear narrative flow, more than respectable graphics and various brilliant time manipulations (still unsurpassed, just look at what Quantum Break has achieved with the more modern tech ->nothing ) made it entertaining to play despite the consolized feeling. I hope Saber can pull it off again, that would make me a happy panda.
Let's just put everything aside though and think for a moment at the year 2007, along with the aforementioned Crysis and Timeshift we also had: STALKER, HL2: Ep2/The Orange Box, Arma, Tom Clancy's GRAW2 (the good one on PC, not the console arcade pew), MoH Airborne, Modern Warfare, Bioshock and probably more that I forgot. Not too shabby, good times :')
