EA Exec on PUBG Success, Impact on Battlefield Development
"new and innovative ways to play"

Quote:
EA CEO Andrew Wilson has spoken out about the remarkable success of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and how it's impacted Battlefield development.

Wilson starts by talking about esports as a whole and how viewership of games can help to reach a wider audience of people who may not already play particular games.

"We always believe, at its very core, esports is going to drive tremendous engagement in our community and allow us to reach broader communities of viewers who maybe have never played our games before. And in doing so, we would see growth in the core digital businesses of the games that we'll feature in esports."

He went on to explain how this engagement relates to PUBG and the success it's seen in shaking up the FPS genre saying, "I think what you discover in this industry is there's a lot of great vectors that drive player engagement. And one of those is just innovation in the core gameplay mechanic. And what the team, with PUBG, have done is really deliver a new level of innovation that change the way people were playing first-person shooter games."

What this means for the confirmed 2018 Battlefield release or perhaps even the new Battlefield 1 Apocalypse DLC is EA are looking for "new and innovative ways to play" but Wilson assures "And that doesn't mean just kind of PUBG replicas inside of the Battlefield universe, but it does mean that our Battlefield teams...are looking at how they innovate in every aspect of the game, including core gameplay and map design."

I don't mind EA asking other studios (like Visceral if they still existed) to experiment and try a new formula, but I still want DICE to focus on traditional BF games.

Also, even if they might add a BR mode, the main game would still focus on team-based modes (conquest/operations etc).

I don't see the bad having more ways to play a game, as long as they keep the core gameplay.

And also, people might like or not like Battlefield games, but for me, they have all been very fun and more than worth the money I've spent on them, going by the 1$/1hour rule.

way more ...

And also I think they have been way above average quality-wise, compared to any other FPS in that genre.

Pretty sure a BR mode will be in this year's BF, question is if they are going to focus on it or just tack it on the usual BF experience.

Most big franchises must be looking at the $ Royale formula this days. And its so much easier to replicate unlike a MOBA,
Hope they dont kill BF in the process, even do I dont care much for it nowadays.
This said, PUGB = most fun I add with a FPS in years. Its a marvel concept allowing for varied styles of play and any weapon/ equipment is balanced in nature. Even a senile gamer like me can have a go at the win.
I would welcome a Big studio take on it, preferably one that caters for the realism side. (Vomit Fortnite)

You just need one very successfully game, and everyone is trying to get a piece of the cake.

Just like MOBAs, Card Battlers or Open-World-Surival games in EA.

Can't blame them. It's an easy money grab and they can make a good game if they want.

Well, I for one am quite excited about all the future entries in the Battlefield series, EA has shown that it is possible to learn from mistakes and embrace a complete path of redemption. There's potential to have even faster, more mindless and entertaining gameplay mechanics while combining all the natural advancements and progresses achieved during the past few years.

We don't know much (yet) besides a single leaked and old pre-alpha screenshot, but so far the new refreshing direction that Battlefield will take looks promising!

Yep you say it, IF they want to make a good game. Very Happy

@ixigia
I remember that lootcrate from Battlefront 2!
So Much Win Okay

Also the last Battlefield i really played for long was BF4 for me too. BF1 didn't really caught my interest.
Well, though i don't call Hardline part of the multiplayer focussed BF games. So in reality we just skipped last years game. Laughing

If they create a Battle Royale mode without watering everything down too much, it could be good. As a more realistic game than PUBG's bunnyhopping retardedness and better looking than that Unity shit. And with better cheat protection and performance. Why not?

I think Escape From Tarkov will never overcome its technical difficulties ... it's not a BR game but they have plans for it Laughing

There are so many things wrong with this post. Realistic Battlefield? What Unity? And yeah, DICE has an amazing track record at dealing with cheaters. Laughing

The destruction + vehicles found in a Battlefield could add something to the Battle Royale genre, but I'm not a fan of that genre in general. And it's already very crowded. If they want to give Battlefield assets to a smaller studio and tell them "make a BR game with it", that could be neat. I'd just prefer if DICE themselves didnt work on it. Maybe their work toward Battlefield Incursions could be moved toward creating a squad-focused Battlefield BR game.

They could make the next battlefield a top seller instantly with this:

Battlefield Bad Company 2 building destruction

Battlefield 3 terrain destruction

Battlefield 4 ground and air vehicles( the air vehicles would need to be balanced somehow)

As well as general battlefield features.

Like what? If you mean why the visuals are not top notch, it's because it doesn't serve the game at all. If you mean why the performance isn't so great, my guess would be that Unreal Engine 4 doesn't work so well with 100 players (Squad had some similar issues) or the devs just can't find a way to fix it. The bunny hoping you are talking about it's also something that doesn't change the gameplay in any way. I'ts the result of jumping requiring no stamina, most people who jump got it in their system from the time when jumping was bugged.
Knowing DICE latest works, I'm not very hopeful for a BR mode/game. One thing is sure tho, it will probably look good.

Rumor: Next Battlefield game called Battlefield V, set during World War II

Quote:
The next entry in the Battlefield series is called Battlefield V and will return the series to World War II for the first time since 2009’s Battlefield 1943, according to sources of VentureBeat.

Internally, the project was once known as Battlefield 2, the website reports. However, this is an entirely new game and not a remaster of 2005’s Battlefield 2.

According to VentureBeat, Electronic Arts will reeval Battlefield V soon, and launch it before the end of the year. Electronic Arts themselves have already announced plans to release a new Battlefield game in October.

VentureBeat also noted that while a Battlefield: Bad Company 3 likely will not happen soon, Electronic Arts is keeping the potential sequel in its back pocket in case it needs to make a strategic shift in the future.

This. They just did WWI - we can all see how that turned out. So their bright idea is to do...WWII? Really? They need to get their heads out of their asses and revisit a modern or futuristic era for fucks sake. Sad
