Blizzard won a similar case from what I remember, key difference being they went after the website and not on a individual level.
This upcoming net neutrality change and vote in the US might have some consequences too depending on how these changes get implemented, could be problematic even for people outside of the US with a lot of servers and such located in the country.
The mom in this particular case seem to have a good grasp of how things work though, hopefully the case isn't too tough on the family on a personal level but it sounds like it already harmed them a bit.
Wonder how this will be settled, Epic might have to back down on account of it being a minor that's involved in this process but they might still try to settle it so it's up to the state how the case gets handled I assume and what the possible repercussions will be if it's not dismissed.
Mom might not have known too much about what the kid did online either until this all came to light, there goes hit net access and just before the teenage years and puberty too..
You are fucked up in the head, seriously. Maybe go get it checked or some shit if you think it's ok to sue a 14 YEAR OLD for cheating in a video game...
I don't deny that kids are cancer online most of the time but this is fucking over the top all the way, a ban would have sufficed...
Epic is just pathetic really. I doubt this will do any good for them regardless of the outcome, only bad rep. Bunch of fucking morons.
“This particular lawsuit arose as a result of the defendant filing a DMCA counterclaim to a takedown notice on a YouTube video that exposed and promoted Fortnite Battle Royale cheats and exploits,” Epic told The Verge in a statement. “Under these circumstances, the law requires that we file suit or drop the claim. Epic is not okay with ongoing cheating or copyright infringement from anyone at any age. As stated previously, we take cheating seriously, and we’ll pursue all available options to make sure our games are fun, fair, and competitive for players.”
Fortnite developers impose $5000 injunction on ‘cheater’
Quote:
Epic Games, the creators of free-to-play zombie craft-em-up Fortnite, have settled a legal case against an alleged cheater. It’s one of the two cases we’ve previously mentioned, and involves a player who was accused of tinkering with the game to “see through solid objects, teleport, impersonate another player” and “ruining the game playing experience of others”. The case has been settled with an injunction that will cost the player $5000 if breached.
The injunction was picked up by TorrentFreak and can be seen here. Basically, it orders that the player delete all the hacks in his possession and explicitly prohibits him from “creating, writing, developing, advertising, promoting, and/or distributing anything that infringes Epic’s works”. The full list of conditions is longer and, as you’d expect, thorough. But considering that the alternative was a lengthy legal battle, possibly ending in a $150,000 fine for the player, it was agreed last week to settle on the permanent injunction.
In strict legal terms, the player was accused of copyright infringement and breach of the end user license agreement. But he was also accused of working for a website which sold the cheats to others, as well as specifically targeting Twitch streamers to gain more publicity. He kept this up, they claim, despite being banned nine times.
The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.
Same here, tho i dont know for how long since me and some other longtime players i play with have filed for a complete refund since the management is awful since the release of BR.
And there are multiple others who do the same, just check reddit and be amazed how toxic they are
So is there like a road map for what they are going to do with the game? I mean I would have thought with it being early access that there will be much more content and features in the future, no?
Ryzen 5 5600, ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING WIFI II, Corsair Vengeance RGB RT 32GB 3600MHz C16, MSI RTX 5070 Ti Ventus 3X OC , Corsair RMx Series RM750x. AOC AGON AG324UX - 4K 144Hz 1ms

Well, there are events and smallish content updates every few weeks.
Sadly PVE is dying more and more, since they focus on the BR mode.

Yeah, BR gets way more attention which aint a bad thing if they woudnt piss on tzhe people who supported them in the first place.
As of right now they just add minor events with almost no bugfixing of major stuff that is bugged since month. They introduce each patch new fucked up perks for weapons noone asked for or shadow nerf stuff without mentioning.
They dont have any sort of QA team who tests the shit before it goes live cause with every update more and more stuff gets broken.
It feels like the PvE part has only 1 or 2 coders who know jackshit about coding.
The PvE Community is really pissed right now cause the Community Managers only do the same shit and that is telling us "We know we need todo better and we will" and its really annoying to hear the same bullshit over and over.
At this point i advice against buying PvE at all, let it die.
P.S: There are roadmaps which even had dates but since they cant keep the dates anyways they are of no use IMHO.
They even removed the dates from the roadmap because of that.
You can see how much they care for PvE when the Valentines Event starts 1 day after Valentines or the Halloween Event which started 2 days before halloween and ended like early decembre.
Okay, status update is that i got today all my money back that i spend on the game. Nice move from epic to give people the chance to refund even after all those month. But i guess BR makes enough money so they can deliver such a service.
Now im not even mad at Epic anymore, since i can still access the game and still have all the stuff.
If you want it for the PVE wait for it to go F2P as it is not worth the $40 they are currently charging. The story still has not been touched since the early access release so the last 2 zones are just like they were the last 2 years going all the way back to the Alpha. Also unless you have friends that you want to play with, you might end up getting bored with PVE pretty fast as it is pretty repetitive mostly because all the missions you do in the first zone are exactly the same ones you will have to do in the next 3 zones after that and they all look the same so the only change is higher enemy difficulty.
PVE is not bad and i still play it for a few rounds once in a while as i wrote earlier.
Though you might be get really unlucky with the weapon rewards, even till higher levels. Which makes it a chore to kill enemies obviously. And if you don't want to keep grinding and hoping something better drops, you are basically forced to pay real money for the lootboxes.
Scammy EPIC still have not implemented a feature to reroll traits on weapons.
Though knowing them, that would probably cost money too.

I woudnt buy the game either anymore except you can get it in a sale with 50% off (one just ended) or get somewhere else a cheap key for around 20 bucks.
Btw. Bob you should try to get a refund aswell, worth a try.
I only played the f2p version of Battle Royale. Tbh it's rather boring, spawn -> walk around for a while, kill one or die yourself -> connect to a different server. I expect pve to be much more interesting, but that's not yet f2p.
Only a skin for an Umbrella afaik. Nothing else that im aware of.
Additional Skins are quite costly, from what ive seen the prices vary from 8€ for a pickaxe up to 20€ for a Playermodel (or even 25€). Tho all the stuff is only cosmetic stuff, no advantages in any way.
