It fell apart in the last two episodes IMO. It felt like the show suddenly changed direction from a thriller to a straight up action show. The feel good ending also felt weird, everything magically working out and all. It all went to shit when the villain appeared basically.

I didn't mind action tbh. I hated atrocious writing in the last 2 -3 episodes. The script in general+ the dialogues were so bad...

Imo it started to fall apart around the sister reveal. Until then it was great though. She's just a possessive psycho, boring character. Also I don't get the sympathies for the Quellists to me they are just some backwards luddite activists/terrorists.
And too bad

 Spoiler:

Overall I still give 8/10 though, but just barely.

Oh dear this starts OK but falls faster than a brick turd in the toilet. Yuck. They could have built such a world out of this, but I guess there was just a lack of vision. I haven't read the book, but the series is just bad.

You're right. The sister is just so bad. The whole premise, her motives and philosophy is so stupid and unreal. I didn't read the book, but I guess it's different.

It is different and better. He doesn't even have a sister in the book.

I'm half way through it and I'm struggling to watch it. It's badly, really badly done, bad directing and shitty writting.

I checked the showrunner and well she did Terminator: Genisys... And is running Battle Angel: Alita. So at least I know to watch it at home out of curiosity.

The main heroes are badly cast, sorry Kinnaman fans but he has good deep voice but zero screen presence. Martha Higareda has nice ass but is totaly out of place in this show. But above all the butchering of original source and shitty writing (khem Genisys khem) is ruining it. They had to have material for 10 episodes so we have shitty Dia de Muertos crap that takes you out of... o fuck it there is really no pace to this story. And it hurts I said bad directing/shots/something off. Somehow they fucked up the feeling of it, the action is too fleshy when it should have been brutal. The whole show should be gritty but it ain't.

Mediocre.

It's not about that..I dunno how to explain it. It just feels fake.

You know why... Because it looks like SyFy production. The bad ones.

Finally collected enough cortical stacks to watch the season, most of which was spent wrestling a diffuse sense of carbonated gassy dissatisfaction Okay

What a giant wasted opportunity *shakes bionic fist*, the show had all the potential to be memorable, but..it just preferred to settle for a flaccid reality instead with a lot of altered Swiss Cheese and rare moments of brilliance. The story started off with the right foot, I was finding the concept behind it very intriguing, until the writing started getting noticeably and progressively worse and worse, with few decent characters and several average ones, occasional not-so-pleasant acting (you're tearing me apart Kovacs!), awkward moments borrowed from Costa Rican procedurals along with unremarkably oomphy action scenes and resolutions.

I always appreciate the fact that Netflix doesn't hold back when it comes to nudity and violence, and both the visuals and setting tickled my inner sci-fipunk-ish needs, sadly though, all the rest didn't quite manage to grab me and it's a shame. I'm interested in a second season, but I really hope it can scrape off the cheap fluff and focus on its strengths, this is a precious genre which deserves a better sleeve in my opinion.

I´m 2 eps in and considering drooping this, I´m afraid of reading Ixigia post (probably better then the series).
Will it get better or is the same cringe inducing scene after scene? Is there a story?

Solid 8/10

Guess, I'm a sucker for the cyberpunk genre even if done moderately right.

The world, the atmosphere, the concept of stacks and sleeves, the visuals, the clever use of lighting to decorate the budget-constrained indoor sets - had me hooked since the last half of E01. Too bad it got linear near the end. Melee combat and ranged combat - choreography was good too.

Certain things going on during the early and middle part of the season reminded of video games:
- the plot structured into main quest and side quests
- quest givers
- the gunsmith with the advanced weapon inventory
- the gun whose bullets act like boomerangs

To me it felt like a show from the late 90s but one made with the current tech. I didn't know that I've been waiting for a show like this all this time.

I commend the creators for having the balls to go ahead and do their own thing in the cyberpunk genre, especially around the time of the mighty Blade Runner.

I'm surprised how tight it was in terms of content. I honestly didn't expect anything like this from Netflix and expected the show to just bomb.

Done with all the books and yeah, they make this look a bit weaker.
Would be awesome to see a more accurate version of the second book (mah favorite Very Happy) on the next season IF they didn't mess up some of the original stuff already Sad

But who knows...

Haven't seen the last 2 episodes yet, but i've gotta agree that the show has lost much of it's magic. It was best when it was just Kozcahaszs not giving a fuck and doing what he wanted. Now it's focusing on humanising him and making terminator sidekicks who have super predictable fights because how established they've become as side characters.. Utterly boring direction it's taking.

Was expecting shit, but i really like it. Solid 8.5/10 so far (4-5 episodes in), didn't like that ep where it's like 35-40 min of "torture", that was a total bore, other than that i have liked it.

One thing i don't care for in cyberpunk though is when holograms can use stuff... that's not cyberpunk, that's magic and it doesn't really belong in the genre imo. The new Bladerunner didn't go there apart from in one scene and it wasn't a bigge (hologram lit a cigarette), totally unnecessary.

The first half of the series was okay. It started going downhill from 7-8 I think.

Be prepared to reconsider your rating. Sadly it goes downhill after that... Good thing as you said the beginning is top notch though.

So maybe they'll try to adapt (or ruin... Sad ) the awesome second book, at least the protagonist's skin color is matching the one from the book Smile

@tonizito

I checked this Anthony Mackie dude's photos and imdb page. No, just no.He should play in stupid comedies not in sci-fi cyberpunk films and certainly not Kovacs.

I didn't say a thing about his acting abilities. I think he doesn't look the part. He might be a good actor, but I can't see him playing this character. Imagine if Jim Carrey was cast for this role lol.

Mackie is the dude who plays Falcon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But yeah, he plays characters with a humour angle better than only serious roles.

1 and 2 are still amazing.
